Hey Boony, that KTM makes your arse look big
.
……..and hey, what’s the go with the weight lifters belt for the bloke on the Predator, I know the DRZ is a bit on the heavy side but that’s a bit extreme.
I had a 600 Transalp for a while but it felt under powered to me. I don’t know how much more grunt the 650s have but with the 600 I couldn’t get the front wheel off the ground in anything but first gear. Not that I wanted to mono down the highway but sometimes it is neccessary to pop the front wheel over some of the rough stuff and I couldn’t get it to happen which lead to some testing moments.
I had the Weestrom after that for a while and it definately had better power but the lower ground clearance was a killer in the rough going. I did manage to man handle it through some sand dunes but it really was hard work.
If I had to pick from the 2 I would likely go for the TA with the extra clearance and suspension travel and I did do a bit of single trail on both buth neither are well suited to it.
I now have the 1995 Tenere and think it is a great compromise between dirt and tar. I wasn’t prepared to fork out the bigger buck for a new model with the way I go through bikes so thought the older model was a good starting point. Mine cost $3800 and if I have to spend another $2000 to freshen it up and set it up for me it is still a cheap, good all rounder. IMO6366Jeffro

Now there’s an excuse right there! I will organize that it gets delivered here, then you don’t have to get that shiny ute of yours all dirty on Mooses road.
Thanks Mick, see you Friday.
There is always a next ime Ace
The Friday shed party has crossed my mind Mick. I have to get the bike ramp off Moose that came from Scotty so I will have to head into Wauchope anyway.
Sounds like fun Mick. I will be up at Port this Friday and staying Friday night, could be tempted to bring the bike up if there was a ride happening
I will keep an eye on this Ollie, that’s one of my weekends off.
Fair dinkum, you didn’t think a bloke could miss that boof head did ya

I lost a lot of respect for Depres yesterday when he didn’t return the favour to the bloke helped him out of the mud. Some might say that it was fair enough because he was challenging for the lead but the bloke that helped him out was in third wasn’t he, so he wasn’t exactly just out for a cruisy ride. Pretty ordinary in my book.
AND, getting stuck in the mud is just one of the challenges of the race, I don’t recall them them diverting bikes out of the sand dunes when thing were tough.

Can you take a picture of the rubbers and what they look like in the older Tenere please as I am interested in the old designCheers

I think I brought it up in one of your threads about cush drive rubbers. HERE
Next time I have the wheel off I can take a picture but they look to be the same as in yours.

January 9, 2012 at 12:23 am in reply to: Ride from Newy to Bilpin and back. FRIDAY 13th Jan to Sun 15th #214178Well I was tossing up which bike to take for this, the DRZ or the Tenere. The Tenere is more comfortable but needed a new chain and doesn’t have full nobbies and DRZ is more fun but was misfiring a bit last time out and needs a new countershaft seal. I bought a new chain for the ten and a new seal for the DRZ today and set about fitting them. I cleaned them both first as neither had been washed since their last rides then fitted a new chain to the Ten which got rid of that horrible crunching sound (thank god, if it wasn’t the chain making the sound I would have been worried). While I was washing the DRZ I noticed the back tyre was getting close to a slick with only 3 or 4mm of centre knob left and being that I am a lazy bastard who can’t be bothered changing it, I am going with the Tenere.
I also discovered it has the cush drive like the newer ones (contrary to what I was told on here a while back) and which are also reasonable worn, so I cut some pieces out of an old tube to beef them up a bit. I will only ride Friday and Saturday though as I have a few things I need to get done this weekend.
What time are we heading out Eag’s? Not too early Friday as I have to drop my car in to the mechanics in the morningAnd good to have you back Mick. Your trip looked to be a pearler.
