I reckon it would be a hard thing to go from a high reving yammy to the low revs of the Ducati’s. I road a Ducati once after getting off my CBR600F and thought there was something wrong with it at first. I went to wind it out a bit through the gears and it was breaking down in the revs, then I realised it red lined at about 5 or 6 thousand revs I think from memory where as the CBR red lined at about 13000

I think you will find that the Motogp Ducati engine is nothing like the road bike engines, its a v4 and revs to about 18,000

Really? they don’t sound like they are reving that high

Under your bar pad cover is a good place to store cable ties.

Regarding the rego label, I have mine laminated and zip tied to the top of my RHS fork leg. That way they cant get you for not displaying the label.

I do the same Mick only on the left fork but I read somewhere that it is not legal. Having said that I have been pulled over before with no rego label, I just told the cop that I don’t put it on because it is too easy to lose it inn the scrub and too hard to replace it and he was ok with it. These days they can get on their in car computers and look up the rego anyway.

Depends on which way you are going as to which bike would be best I reckon Trev. I road a 650 Veestrom to the corner last year. Wen the going got a bit tough I wish I had something lighter but on the long slab sections was glad I had it. If it rains and the dirt roads turn to mush and slime then you want the lightest bike possible, I had a hell of a time getting out of Menindee lakes last years after heavy overnight rain. I also found the sandy sections of the roads we took hard to manage as the bike would wriggle like a snake, especially when I wasn’t paying attention and hit them at 100kmh +.

You could also have a look at the write up TB did on his tenere, he reviewed a couple of different tyres there as well. Lotsa was on a DR650 on that trip so he may be able to give some info on the hi’s and low’s of that bike.

Good uck with it whatever you do

    Sorry Bol.
I didn’t take a camera but I think Pete may have a couple of shots and I think I saw TB take a picture somewhere,,,,,,,,, oh yeh thats right, it was of Nicks bike on it’s side. I was planning on taking the helmet camera but in the end I was running late and forgot, it would have been good to get some video of the terrain the big Ten’s tractored along.

I spent the weekend stripping my little Yammy down and giving her a good clean and inspection. I stripped down to main frame and then cleaned and put her back piece by piece and while I was at it I replaced the whole drivetrain including chain guide and axle blocks.

New air and oil filter and a fresh drink of Silkolene and I am ready to go.

    Bring it on.

    OOOOHHH, preettty :D

Well I met with the guys at Westy and shortly after the Murphsberg crew showed up, after some chit chat we went our seperate ways, Murphs group doing the hardcore enduro loop and our group getting into some hardcore adventure riding. We made our way from Westy to Freemans waterhole via some firetrail and twin trail where the Tenere riders handled it with ease (well it looked like it anyway, Nick was offering his to anyone that might want a go at one stage). From Freemans we headed up the road and back into the bush and thats when things got really interesting. With TB leading we were following a track that got narrower and rougher at every turn with Nick having a little lay down on tricky little hill. Eventually the track opened out again and we comntinued on a pretty decent pace considereing the weight of the big bikes.

With Beer o’clock calling I split from the group as they turned and headed for the letter A and started to make my way home. I was tossing up whether to go on the tar or the dirt and desided that as my riding season is drawing to an end I had better hit the dirt. Ans so it was that I went in just near the freemans roundabout and headed up the hill only to take a wrong turn and come out at the Gap  . I decided that I didn’t want to do that section again so headed on the tar back in to Frreman’s then headed towards the freeway before turning back into the bush where we had come out on the way there. From there it was over sugarloaf where a rider waved me down, he was only a young kid and had lost his group and was pretty concerned. I told him I had seen a guy sitting on a corner back further and I could have a look for him if he liked which he was grateful for. With that I headed back but the other rider was gone so I turned around again only to find the young fella was gone. (Your welcome mate, no problem at all  )

From there I headed into Stockrington along some tracks I hadn’t done for a while and was having a great time until just before the top of a fairly ticky hill climb my right foot struck a stump or something, not sure what it was and didn’t want to stop and have a look so with a great deal of pain I continued on making my way home the shortest way I could find. The vibration from the bike weren’t helping either and when I got home and took my boot off I found this (see attachments).
Must have been bad, I skipped the beers at my mates place to go home and ice it before I had even seen it   , that nail isn’t gonna make it.
