I had an 89 250 I got second hand in 94. Bored it out to 280 and Ballards did a big fin head for me. I fitted Cartridge Emulators and a progressive rear spring, Ballards seat cover.
Great bike except for the rear drum brake. Oh and the Ballards exhaust tip!
They were the days, Ballards XR’s Only. My brother even bought a 95 one direct from Ballards(which he still has).
Terrific bikes with no real problems to look out for, other than the usual wear and abuse issues.
They were the bike referred to as the best steering bike for years and years in the bike mags of the day.
I would love to get that bike back.

I did a Lynden Heffernan Off Road Academy school through sidetrack in 2000 and then we ran another one through our motorcross club last year. I would recommend them to everyone. Great skills building and courses tailored for trail riders.
We also put our kids through a few motorcross schools and the quality of those varies by heaps. One we put our kids in they were running 450 motorcross bikes around the track with nippers on 50’s. I wont name the school here but they were useless.

It may depend if you want to get tools to work on other things or just the bike.

If its just your bike buy a good bumbag. Buy a multi axle nut spanner, maybe a 10mm and 12mm ratchet spanner, a t bar socket set with a small selection of sockets, chain breaker etc. Add more or less tools as you work out what you need. Also, every time you work on your bike, only use the tools out of the bumbag so you get used to using them for when you are stuck on the side of the track somewhere.
I think kincrome do bumbags with tools and so do Ballards.

In the shed you can get away with 1/4 and 1/2 drive sockets, I reckon 3/8 is in no mans land really. A good set of ratchet spanners is very handy as well as normal ring spanners. Be very wary of open enders as they have their place but can easily take the place of a shifter for the “lathe in the hand” title.

Nah wasnt at the Bingara pub, but can well see the problems that could cause!

Denman is tight mostly with some rocky bits. Only short compared to Northern ones, around 12 km loop. It would be real tough if it was wet.

Yeah I raced at bike territory (broke a couple of ribs there) and will have a look at the thread for sure.

When they first brought those camera cars out in NSW they had a story on the news about a fella standing in the street with a cardboard sign up warning all the on coming traffic of the camera car ahead. He was achieving a better result of slowing cars down with a bit of cardboard than the camera car was as far as I could see.

Hi Aaron, I did nearly the whole Northern inland series in 2009 except the last two rounds(including Upper Horton which I was spewing about). Last year a few mates and I went and did most of the series at Denman. Same track each race but changed around or run backwards. Meant less traveling.
Sounds like Goanna is going to be close to ready soon.

Was very sad to hear this news. He was a stand out in the industry and Sidetrack was a fantastic mag. I met him once on a Sidetrack Subs ride school at Lue.
Life sure seems to have some cruel twists to it.

Hi, I got a stick through my Tech 6 boots up on a ride at Gingers creek early last year. Ripped a small hole in them about a third of the way up on the outside. Didnt loose any blood but the stick was attached to a fair sized branch and it pulled my leg off the peg and right back around behind the rear guard. Nearly dislocated my knee. The strange thing was that the exact same thing happened again at Yellow Mountain again last year.
Some of those injuries and blood look a bit …….. ah cant look at that.
