The only bike I have that eats plugs is my young fellas KX65. They last about 5 or 6 rides.

Ok, my experience with a CRF450X. Loved it. Great bike to trail ride. Great bike to race. They are not an XR though. You won’t have gearbox problems. Forget the cush drive. Waste of money. Buy some decent quality rims. They bend like butter. I had the biggest dents in my wheels and I never noticed hitting anything special to do it.
Don’t waste your money on a cush drive. The inlet valves will fail and you need to put the cash aside to replace them with stainless valves.
Don’t waste your money on a cush drive. The crankshaft will fail well before you even go close to wearing out a gearbox. The big end will let go and all but destroy the top end of the motor.
By the way, the gearbox will run for 25 minutes with no oil no worries, just watch for the stone that misses the bash plate and holes the clutch case, letting all your gearbox oil out.
I would not really trust a high maintenance bike like a CRF for adventure riding. Thats not what they were built for. They are no XR. They are an awesome bike, but stay close to home.

I have a 15 litre IMS tank to suit a crf450x here if you are interested? Its the one fitted to the CRF in my avatar, bike sold, tank still sitting in my shed.

    Hmm, the old weight issue, Honda CRF250X 114kg. Husaberg FE 390, 450, 570 114kg.

The old 250 is lighter is a bit of a furphy Im afraid.

Lefty if the KTM is anything like a Honda CRF then I would replace the crank and con rod at the same time. That many hours on a modern 4 stroke and that big end has got to have limited life left in it.

BBB at Dunedoo is still the same osmooian! We have tried to get it back to 200+ bikes back but its a hard call with so many other clubs about now. Still the best sand track about and it doesn’t matter who you talk to they always say it was one of their favourite tracks! Its fully watered with a sprinkler system so no dust any more either.
There is talk of a pony express style race this year at BBB as well. Fingers crossed.

    Hi Bob,
there are a heap of motocross clubs in the central west these days. Dubbo, Mudgee, Dunedoo, Tottenham, Condo,Bathurst,Orange etc.
The best thing to do is join one that suits and then get your youngster into a kickstart course to get their license to ride. That gets them basic skills training and then they are good to ride at any club day for 12 months. You need to re-do this course every year which is a drag but it also means they have the best info on riding their bike safely.
The club has all the info you need on courses and they all run a nippers class aimed at little kids. The nippers is non-competitive so no pressure on them which is a terrific idea!
Denman run pony express races and they also cater for juniors as well if you are interested in that style of riding as well. I think Condo may do something similar but not 100% sure.

in reply to: A Stupid Question…. what bike???? #212992

Well I finally got around to picking a new bike. I put a deposit on a Husaberg FE450. Will pick it up towards the end of the week with luck!

in reply to: TUbliss tyre system ???? #213724

Interesting subject. How do they go in catheads etc that penetrate a tyre? Four wheelers have tubeless tyres and the only way you can get any miles at all with out a flat is with very high ply rating tyres. You end up with more plugs than tyre after a while……
However the repair time is in seconds though which is good.
The theory of tubeless conversion is good.
On another subject, I saw a 22.5inch tubeless truck tyre have its bead seated so they could blow it up the other day. they poured about 100ml of petrol in the valve stem and then lit the vapour at the stem and BOOM up popped the bead lol!!
