That’s a shame… I’m meeting Mark and about 6 other riders at Cooranbong – Elephant Cafe at 8am for an Adv Ride if anyone is interested. The XR400 has been feeling neglected with the CRF230 getting some ride time…. heading to the garage to prepare the beast.

When I look back on the last year I can definitely say I’ve been living the Adventure Riding dream and doing all the other things that feeds my passions (TB seems to cover them all off nicely)…but you can’t enjoy them without sharing them with friends/mates and family…… thanks everyone….
Hope to see you out there or run into you (like i did to Lotsa, Gav and Jeffro the other weekend) on a ride
Thanks guys…. Kat xxxx

Broken Hill… for New Years celebration..Highlights:
Playing in the ruins and taking funny photo’s
Kat nearly hitting an emu’s arse doing 100km. There were millimeters in it.
Seeing dust twisters in the distance. Then seeing one twister form immediately next to Mick and hit him straight on. Impact was a bike wiggle. This was followed by another twister that was working its way towards us and decided to hit Mick. Two Twisters = Two hits on Mick….. he is a magnet for them.
Olary Pub – publican enjoyed seeing another KTM … he owns one…. and sure enough has lots of folk seal ‘challenges’!!. Plus he had a little pussy that was only 3 weeks old that caught Micks eyes!!. The rum/coke or 3 felt good. One was for the emu nerves, one was for the heat and the last one was for no reason other than I love the taste.
Anyone doing a ride from Broken Hill to Olary…. the publican suggest you follow railway lines rather than do tar
Hitting Broken Hill and knowing that we needed to pack up the bikes, get into our party cloths, drink, eat and dance till midnight….. well it didn’t quiet turn out like that!!
Night at the Musical Club listening/dancing to a band

I’ve worked out that its not safe doing these things on your own and its more fun when you can share it with a mate. Thanks for picking me up, dusting me off and not complaining when you had to walk some hills to bring my bike down and lastly putting up with my sick behaviour / humour.

This video demonstrates how to shake of a KTM 625 that’s on your tail then fang off

At Port Augusta after enjoying an air conditioned pub with rum/coke (or two) with something to eat
So we drunk too many drinks at Port Augusta and got to Quorn … hot, dehydrated and just wanted to hug something cold…. I was thinking of wrapping my arms around a bag of ice….. Mick was happy to just sit.

Warren Gorge… a must to camp at

A rut got my lever
Mick coming down a tricky section
Dinner in Hawker at the Ghan Restaurant… this turned out to be an interesting night
Enjoying civilised dinner
After all other patrons left we ended up drinking with the owner Rob, son Wade and their mate Larry till midnight and was shown the hidden route to downstairs!!!
Interesting photo’s downstairs!!!
Mick made friends with Borris
Even got a showing of some history artifacts …. at midnight i wasn’t taking much in that was being shared… the homemade port was taking affect
My thoughts go out to the family and friends of this poor bloke. RIP
We all have a feeling of being infallible and that nothing major will happen …. but…. this is a reminder that it can happen to any one of us regardless of our skills.
When riding with mates you get to share the great experiences plus be there for each other at when things go bad. I use to ride on my own only cause I didn’t know to many riders….. now I’ve got many great mates to ride with …and i know if i go down…. I’ll be looked after (that’s after they take a photo)

Day 3 – Hawker to Copley (356km) Depart 6.30am Arrive 5.00pm
It was an early start but it paid off seeing the sunrise hitting the mountain ranges. Two emu’s decided to get up close and personal with me to have a head on…. but Honda won the face off.
Anyone going to Flinders MUST do Bunyeroo Gorge… the hoolie doolie counter went off the rickta scales
We meet a lovely couple in Wilpena Pounds on Yamaha TDM 850. Wife was on L’s and rode her bike from Adelaide to Quorn but got a bit tied. So they left her bike there and doubled up to Wilpena. He was trying to entice her into Adventure Riding so we shared a cuppa and told her what its like ……I don’t think she was convinced…. but Paul her husband was hoping my words of wisdom would help (hopefully not scare her).
Highlights:
Moralana Scenic Drive
Wilpena Pound
Bunyeroo Valley
Parachilna – no fuel
Old Beltana – Ghan Railway dirt road
Leigh Creek
Aroona Dam
Myrtie Spring Gorge
Copley PubAnother wonderful day followed by pub drinks, dinner and yak to the locals…. and a nice comfortable bed to sleep in…. this adventure riding is REALLY tough.
Early departure for the day
Tar to Moralana Scenic Drive
Start of Moralana Scenic Drive
Moralana Scenic Drive – learnt how to ride over dry river beds with LARGE boulders
Mt Ide
Tar to Wilpena Pound
Turned into Bunyeroo Valley
Razorback Lookout
One of only a handful of river crossing that actually had water in it
The ‘hoolie doolie’ count was high…. the rock formations were amazing
No fuel at Parachilna – thanks to some tips from the locals we found a dirt rode to get us up to Leigh’s Creek rather than fang it up the tar
The old relics from the old Ghan Railway
Swim in Aroona Dam (sorry no bikini shots available)
Mick in action shot
Coming out of Aroona Dam we found some rock formations worth climbing!!! (on bike and by hand!!)
Doing some single track out the back of Copley
Myrtie Spring Gorge – went for a blast to this gorge to kill some time otherwise it was back in the pub drinking!!
Sutto’s service shines again and again and again……. make sure you have comprehensive cover and more importantly make sure your not getting followed home by a prospective thief …… I always check my revision mirror when getting close to home. You hear of some many cases of new bikes getting nicked…
Can’t wait to see the photo’s.

Jeffro wrote:I think Black gate road is the one I am thinking of. I road up it the weekend we stayed on the houseboats in Bully only for the others to decide to find an easier way. Then the last time I tried to get up it I couldn’t and even tried going bush to get around it with no joy.Jeffro… it was Black Gate Rd…..and looking at your photo it would be pleasure going down that in dry conditions…. the downpour on Sunday really slicked it up…..
Nickj – the little CRF was fun and light to play on….. got the rear wheel slides into the corners down pat as I felt better doing that on smaller bike….
Kat
Wolfie,
Loved reading your post….thanks…. its nice to see the passion for bikes do strange things to blokes…. but you have a nice balance thinking about your wifey… getting flowers, choc’s and dinner…..now to build some brownie points up so you can get out on that new bike.
Enjoy it…..

Jeffro wrote:Some nice riding around that way hey Kat, thought about heading there yesterday but thought it might be a bit wet for solo riding after what happened to me there last time. That was a good move Jeffro… ….. as I’m a bit sadistic … the best part of the day was getting down the clay hill….lucky the guys were around to enjoy the entertainment … and also help put my bike in the right rutt.
