    Hi Eagle,

I’ve had my fair share of knee operations. Dislocated my left patella and tore the meniscus (playing netball) and on the right knee I disintegrated my ACL/PCL/MCL and meniscus (kiteboarding).

My advice to you is as follows:

    1. MUST have MRI to determine what type of meniscus tear
    2. Have an orthopaedic surgeon that specialises in knees only.
    3. Whilst waiting for prognosis do lots of quad exercises. You can do these easily without compromising your knee or putting weight on it. PM me and I can give you some direction. The operation will cause your quad to deteriorate.
    4. If you have swelling now you need to get it down using ice. You don’t want scar tissue forming. Anti inflam pills are effective but not good for stomach lining. Get some anti inflam cream – Voltaren. I buy it in bucket loads as my knees are stuffed after each ride.
    5. The after op exercises/physio is critical but you need professional direction on do’s/don’ts.

PM me if you want to discuss further.

Hi Bubba, Great to meet you on the weekend and really appreciated your support. Loved your ute and belt buckle …. I’m not so much up on country music but was learning to enjoy it but most of all loved your cheeky grin. For a young bloke you have your head screwed on…. except your idea of riding bulls…. let me know when you start riding… would love to see you buck on a bike. :P

in reply to: Sofala Obt 2nd Birthday Ride Report #177416

Got into work this morning (slowly), sat down (slowly) and had a line up of my male colleagues asking “How did the weekend go”… “Are you still in one piece” .I just looked at them and smiled. There is nothing at work today that can wipe the smile off. I got a feeling that the smile is going to last all week.

I would like to say big thank you to organisers (TB ect, sponsors, support team etc) but also a thank you goes to everyone who turned up because I got to experience comradely that only OBT is legendary for.

My funny bits that keep me smiling:

    1. Driving from Blaxland to Bell Station in the pouring rain and thinking “why didn’t I pack some wet weather stuff – oh that’s right I believed the weather bureau – dumb”
    2. Getting butterflies and doing a nervous wee before heading off – Stucky – you weren’t alone.
    3. Riding to the photo shoot in the mist and experiencing a snotty down hill that woke me up and watching a fellow BGroupie go down – MickP over a log. I’m sure it was to test that the crash bars were working!!
    4. Getting lost going to Lost City and laughing about it. It meant we did some other single trails that got the left boob moving.
    5. Jeffro waking up a wombat in the Valley of the rocks – Newnes State Forrest during his toilet stop.
    6. Experiencing snotty bits that made me grunt and yah whoooo rather than cry.
    7. Finding a best buddy “Stucky” that checked my backpack every time we stopped to confirm I didn’t leave anything open.
    8. Having Scotty and Jeffro up my behind over the two days giving me the confidence and tips when tackling the tricky bits
    9. Putting up my tent on top of the prickly bush.
    10. Going for a swim to attempt to clean myself but only getting half way in.
    11. Getting an opportunity to talk to people over the fire – got to chew Sutto’s ear off only to work out who he was after about 1hr of discussion. Next time I will get the low down who’s who in the zoo. But loved hearing his stories.
    12. Showing c-e-l how to go up hills without falling over – ha ha
    13. Watching MickP dance his new baby BMW F800 over the rocks.
    14. Crossing the dreaded creek. Boulder put his body and bike on the line and went thru the creek. It got deeper and deeper but he gracefully got thru. Jeffro decided to swing around it via the mud and only just made it. Scotty was next on the beast and bogged it in the process. We all pitched in and after a few grunt and me on bike trying to ride it thru the beast was out. I was next and found where not to go thanks to the guys but Stucky decided to connect handlebar to head – perfectly but saved it in the process.
    15. Riding with Boulder on Sunday
    16. Enjoying a pub lunch and schooner of rum and coke to numb the body.
    17. Driving home and feeling every muscle twitch with pleasure NOT – including the inside leg muscle. I should have taken some magnesium.

Thanks again everyone and I hope that we meet up again in the near future.

I wish Kram and Fish a speedy recovery and know the OBT community is rooting for them.
    Safe riding.

The infamous Ollie….I should have known with the dirty Gas Gas.

I noticed you had trouble turning your head and lifting your hand to wave and the smile looked like a grin of pain. I didn’t get a chance to count how many fingers you used.

Hope your body bits and bike heal quickly and your back out there ripping it up. 😆

Could have been the loose wire on the leccy start button. .

    Morning Mal5.1

I think you’re right. There was a loose wire on the leccy start button and I think it might of hit the handlebar and maybe caused the shorting out of the fuse.

I seriously need to buy a tool kit. I used the one that came with the bike and they remind me of tool kit you would give kids to play with as toys…. ;)

The list of things to buy is growing…. Need to start waving the plastic card again. :woohoo:

    Hi Mal5.1,

Wishing you all the best….and sounds like all the old bulls have helped get you to this point and they will be there when you come out the other end. Be safe, enjoy the experience and can’t wait to read about it. Good luck.

    Hi Bollocks,

Enjoyed your report and I’m dribbling after seeing the photo’s. :silly: Don’t get excited as it’s due to the red wine I’m guzzling after shitty day at work. :S

So the report is now responsible for adding to my bucket list an attempt on Pork Chop hill but I suspect that may be sometime off. Need tad more experience before tackling that one.

Well done… and continue living your dreams..

we went and stocked up on fruit and veg yesterday.

Remember its eating the “right” type of fruit and veg’s that counts. If you like potatoes… buy sweat potatoes as it’s lower in GI. Try and eat lots of green vegs and where possible put chilli in your meals. This increases your thermogenesis (heat production in the body) and makes you feel satisfied more quickly

When it comes to fruit… stay away for fruit that contain lots of natural sugar… ie grapes, banana’s and oranges. Only have these before you do exercise as you will burn this first. Stick to apples. If you eat an apple just prior to a meal you will reduce your portion intake.

Going from crap food and drink to healthy foods will shock the body and you will get excellent results but once the shock is over you will find it harder to reduce the weight… this is where you exercise focus comes in.

    Hi Menance,

All the best on your quest. The guys have given you some great advice but can I add something to think about.

I train people in the gym as a hobbie and the biggest problem people have are:

    1. unrealistic expectations how much weight you can drop
    2. incorrect type of exercise program.
    3. incorrect meals

From my experence if you eat the right food, do the right exercise you should be able to drop 1kg a week.

Your exercises should consist of 2 cardo, 2 weight sessions and 1 session on core stability a week.

Your need to be eating 5-6 times a day. This will increase your metabolism (allows the body to work harder to process food). Don’t eat carb’s after lunch – ie no rice, potatoes, pasta etc. Dinner is lean meat/fish with salad or vegs. and morning snacks – apple and after snack – nuts.

Lastly drink lots of water to flush the system out. If you can enjoy a warm glass of water with bit of lemon in it first thing in the morning to flush the kidneys etc.

Good luck and if you have any questions PM me. The success to this is your mental focus….

    Katgirl :P
