Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes…. loved the cake… and I didn’t have to eat it… yeh ha.

The day slipped by thanks to work but had the big family bash last night. The great news is we all came out alive without any arguements. The only down fall was that I had to sit next to Dad. He doesn’t get it that at 43yrs old I run my life my way…. got the lecture that I’m a bloody idiot taking up trailbike riding… oh well I must learn if from him… he is a bloody idiot partaking in 42 Sydney to Hobart yacht races. Funny thing… Im a chip off the old block and hate it.

Well I just finished reading the first chix trailbike mag that came out this month and its nice to know that there are alot more women who are more hard core than me. God I wished I started this sport when I was 5yrs and not 42yrs.

    Hi Scotty,

My other half’s family has a holiday house at Lake Tabourie and we have done some fantastic rides from there to Braidwood and from Bateman’s back up via Pebbly Beach and Bawley Point. Theres so many tracks that you seem never to be on the same one. Just a shame it we can’t get down there every weekend…..

in reply to: Buggerd knee #170037

    Hi Oldfella,

I didn’t have a full knee replacement but I had 3 out of 4 knee ligaments replaced (both cruciates- ACL & PCL and a collateral )after a very bad kiteboarding accident 3 years ago.

Just like Austblue’s mum I had to go back 10 weeks later to get it crunched as the scar tissue built up. At that stage I only had 45 degree bend. 3 years later I’m lucky to get 90 – 100 degrees.

Here are my learnings from the experience:
    1. Do exactly what the surgeon says after the operation. Don’t do more or less otherwise you might compromise the knee.
    2. When he/she gives you the ok to start physio. Don’t do the bloke thing at say ‘yeh yeh’ but do exactly what is required…. Again no more or less.
    3. Do yourself a favour and buy a physio mouldable cold packs. This will be you new best friend during your period of recovery. The art is to get the inflammation down as much as possible to stop the scar tissue building. I found ICE or cold pack more effective than anti inflammatory pills (it doesn’t screw up your stomach) after 2 weeks.
    4. If you have the operation in 4 weeks time you need to start working your quad muscles now in preparation for the op. You will loose 30-40% of your quad muscle during the operation and it takes 6-12 months to build it back up. Since trailbike riding is dependent on strong quad’s I would highly recommend working the muscle NOW.
    5. Accept that your rehab is ongoing…. It never finishes. I’m still doing mine and my quad is about 90% there.
    6. If you are asked to keep bending the knee then do it…. Otherwise you will have my problem and have troubles going down stairs. It hurts but its good pain….so they say.
    7. Lastly don’t rush back into trail bike riding. Only you will know when its right to get back into it. I got back on my kiteboard 11months 29 days after the operation and I haven’t stopped…. I’m just bit more sensible….well on the kiteboard but not on trailbike.

I did an OBT ride yesterday in the Watagan’s – about 120km. As most of my riding was on the pegs my knee was quiet stiff and sore. It’s like having bog in your knee. It’s a feeling that I have gotten use too ….. I still kiteboard but wear a knee brace. I’m considering a knee brace for trailriding. More for support to ensure the knee doesn’t go into funny positions again.

Well I hope this has helped and if you have any specific questions on rehab PM me as I had lots and lots of experience.

    Good luck.

Wow what a ride that was yesterday…

Big thankyou to Beemer for organising the day.

I was very nervous at the start and it must have taken me 1 hour before I could settle into the mode. I have to say a very special thankyou to Boulder, Old Al and Training Wheels for being the sweeps, picking me up, giving me tips and having lots of patience.

My confidence built as the day went on and I know with lot more time in the bush I will be able to get over those obstacles that I had trouble on.

Yesterday confirmed what a bunch of nice blokes you are …

I’m happy to report to Yakka that I did end up cooking a roast dinner for Adrian instead of buying a pizza. I felt guilty that he was out cleaning the bikes for hours whilst I was sucking on my gin & tonic and having a long hot shower.

There was another plus to bring Adrian along….. I didn’t need to explain to him why I had very big bruises on the inside of my thighs.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Hi Paul,

Have you got any ladies locked in to do the ride???

in reply to: If you can’t beat them, join them!! #169050

    Hi Donna,

Welcome…. it’s nice to see another lady on the site. We need more to help tame these blokes!!!

I’m a bemmer girl..thanks to my bemmer boyfriend.. I have the F650GS for my road bike but went for the Honda 230 for my trailbike…. I’m addicted to riding and looking forward to meeting other like minded ladies. Hope to meet up with you soon on a ride.

    Keep safe…. Kat

I’m the standard underfed girlfriend who is 5ft2in when I stick my shoulders back and 53kg after a few rum and cokes.

TB – I’d be happy to post some pics and explain it in dirty girl forum so other ladies can read about the product.

in reply to: Body Armour for Women #168772

    Thanks so much TB.

Just got off the phone from Kate at 4BP Racing. Kate was so helpful and understood the challenges women go through in trying to find things such as body armour.

We were able to find the right option for me…. which happened to be junior armour…. and after waving the plastic card it will be here just in time for the weekend.

There isn’t anything stopping me now……… just skill.
