What a way to spend a Saturday morning having retail therapy at Adventure Moto and on top of that getting to have a yak with TB, Steve and Amy (Flying Fish).
So hours later came out with panniers sorted (Gaint Loop), 8L fuel bladder, little tank pocket, KLIM jacket/bottoms that don’t make my arse look to big and wind proof gloves. Not sure what Amy ended up with.
Thanks Steve and TB for all your advice. Looking forward to a workshop day stripping down the bike and preparing it for the big ride.
PS… went camping last night up at the Watagan’s and my fire building skills were refined and the tent stayed up all night…. things are looking good.
Kat
Welcome Jeff……. you have found the ultimate site……. enjoy and hope to see you out on one of our adv rides..
Kat
That sounds fantastic but Flying Fish and I are heading off end of July on the APC Rally otherwise I’d come..
Kat
Only ONE answer
…………………………
Shoei Hornet.
………………………
I had an RJ before and now it collecting dust in the garage……
ITS WORTH EVERY CENT…..
I did a bike ride the other day (10hrs on bike)….. the helmet was sensational. Light, not noisy, doesn’t whip around when going fast… plus it looks fast!!

Kat
Well its 10 weeks to go and my original riding partner (Dave from Albury) pulled out and I was going give it a miss this year…… BUT…. the world changed on Saturday after our Kurri ride when I meet Flying Fish (Amy) who was in the same predicament. After the ride we confirmed our ride style was similar and our thoughts on approaching the ride and what we wanted out of it was the same…
The news is ……….. we are going to do it together…….. this is going to be dangerous…… two OldBull chic’s giving it a go…..we may get lost …. we may break down…… we may have couple of challenging drops…..but I feel confident there will be lots of laughter…
So watch out Steve at Adventure Moto we need to buy some goodies and TB you may be hounded with questions as we need your direction and anyone else out there up to help we would greatly appreciate it.
Kat
PS… we are trying to rope in Alyssa to come but she probably has more sense than us…
If you see us on the side of the road… this is what we look like….Flying Fish is on left… me in middle and Alyssa on right

Flying Fish wrote:Kat, the only thing you didn’t mention was the “liedown” count. This is where I have to fess up that I ended the day with the most with 2 (or 3 if you count losing my balance while sitting still) .Oops I forgot to mention how many drops you did………. I did that on purpose
. Didn’t want to upset you and jeopardies my new found riding buddy for APC Rally…. your count was actually 3 (THREE). One cross rutted face plant that was graceful, one was a gentle lean back to talk to us girls followed by a flop and the last one I missed out.
Flying Fish wrote:Kat, you and me on the APC – I can’t wait! Alyssa, are you sure we can’t convince you to come along. Considering how much fun Saturday was, just think who much trouble the three of us could get into over 14 days.Flying Fish
I’m not sure if my stomach muscles could take 14 days of belly laughs…. but oh wouldn’t it be good to have Alyssa come along…
I have covered allot of ground today in getting my shit together for APC. GPS orders and arrives here by end of week. Screen ordered from Eagle Screens – due in two weeks. Bought camping stove etc …should be here within a week…. Now I have to hit up Steve at Adventure Moto and organise my luggage and fuel bladder….

Last of the funny video’s
Hey … great to hear about your XR400……. I too love mine but got myself an XR400M that has the electric start. Too hard for a girl to kick over the XR400R. I have it setup for adventure riding (plus had it lowered by Teknik’s so I could put my feet down) and it has lived up to the task with some great long rides recently out to Flinder’s Ranges.

Flying Fish wrote:Hi Alyssa,I have a WR250R, but seem to spend most of my time on my 800GS. So I really need time on the WR and more single track or more technical riding (i.e. snotty hills and erosion gullies). I think if I can get out with you and Kat I should be get that experience and be in good hands (bring on the pain :silly: ).
I live just down the road at Singleton. Every time I pass through Kurri I look longingly at the mountains around that area. I look forward to checking out your local trails one day. What are you (and Kat if she’s avaliable) doing on the 12th May?
Cheers Amy
Hey Amy… omg… I too have a 800GS as my road bike and a little CRF230 that i use for more single, technical trail type riding to help improve my skills. The XR400 is my adventure beast that I ‘try’ to ride on long distance firetrails. The GS doesn’t get much ride time as I love the dirty experience more. So yes I have a problem needing 3 bikes to cover my riding experiences. I’ve only been riding motorbikes for 2 1/2years and I was lucky enough to find OldBulls 6mths in and OffRoadExplorer (ORE) back in Sep last year….. so steep learning curve but tremendous support from the guys and great advice when it comes to working on the bikes.
Here is the ride report from Sunday’s ride:
http://www.offroadexplorer.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2559Regarding 12th May – let me think about it for a nano-second……. YES. I’ll bring the CRF230 up. Maybe Alyssa can take us on some singles up Kurri way. Be prepared for lots of laughing…. and BTW Alyssa has a wicked laugh. That works as it’s Mothers Day on Sunday and I’ve already been summoned to attend a family event.
Lets talk closer to time.
Kat
Well TB based on your feedback I decided to have some retail therapy in the bike shop and bought a Shoei Hornet and had its first outing yesterday….. 11hrs of riding and I have to say OOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGG…. it was worth every cent. :woohoo:
The other helmet was heavy, every time you looked sideways your whole body went with it with the force of wind and you couldn’t hear yourself think “keep elbows out, body position” yadda yadda yadda… and other things as well…. but I’ll keep that to myself….
So yesterday I was thinking more (not a good thing sometimes!!!) and my shoulders and neck weren’t so tight….
Thanks for sharing your views on the helmet…. I know I’m going to have many km’s of joy with mine.
Kat
I suspect Alyssa you will be grinning for a week (not due to pain) over that ride. Hope you gave Stephen a hard time that us girls potted past him going up that hill full of erosion humps whilst he was dusting himself off and having Mick pick up his bike. I was giggling in my helmet!!!
I think it ended up being 11hrs all up from start/finish with only little time not riding (bfast, muchie breaks and a Laguna rum/coke and chips). Body bit stiff this morning but oh it feels goooooooooood.
PS… bike is still dirty in garage and i’m already in bed at 7pm… it will wait till tomorrow night
There will be lots more of those rides to come. Hope to see you again.
Big effort from the boys… I’ve been watching Lotsa spot and its been entertaining me at work………… can’t wait for the RR…..

King STM wrote:Hey Fly Fish,Welcome to the site. If you can make it to the birthday ride you will have a great time and meet many like minded dirt lovers.
Enjoy OBT and be warned, the guys are safer company than Katgirl. She is dangerous on the rums 😆
STM
STM….. PLEASE don’t scare Fly Fish with my rum abilities…… it scares me sometimes!!! I’ve got to draw the girls in before I scare them…. at least allow me one ride with them!!!
