Hi Gary,
I am around Pennant Hills mate more than welcome to come along for a ride Sunday!!
I normally get my little 450 out but just finished pre’ing the KTM 640 and intend to have a slow day tomorrow with an early kick off from Wahroonga Servo on Pacific Hwy, just to be different.
Kick off Time when I get up I guess solo day?
Normally trailer up to near Wadegans & ride around on the West side.Anyway drop us a line normally ride every 2nd Sunday due to commitments.
Hi Dood,
Here is the Dunlop link for the tyres & recommended rime sizes mate this will help with matching the state tyre size & your rim.
http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=14Now I found a cheap Dunlop 707 110/100 in MCAS hard terrain
Sounds a wired size for a bike which comes with a 140/80 rear but this tyre is awesome grip & gives excellent control & is wearing well looks to last 3 times as long as Mitchellin rear which spins like crazy.
I will be using the Dunlop Geomax MX71 next.
The D707 110/100 is as wide as a 130 tyre but fits the smaller rear rim on my bike.Ask for Sam in City MCAS store & he will help you out mate!!
Regards, KFP
Hi Chris,
I hope this help’s you mate, from my experience & close analysis of the bikes specifications.
The true comparison between the latest TE449 & the KTM450 is the KTM’s 2012 release as this has all the good stuff on it.
The very latest 2012 KTM has the same fuel injection system as TE449 & my BMWG450x.
The KTM has the same shape front fork tubes as the MOZZEKI on the BMW & rear shock linkage is similar on both TE & KTM but the KTM has a cheap plastic retention nut for rear shock spring pre-load?? & the TE has the swing arm pivot at the secondary drive like the BMW which allow you to run tighter chain drive & less adjustment plus more traction.
There is allot or discussion around the traction issue but the BMW & TE449 will perform better on hill climbs.
The write ups on TE front & rear are good, KTM 2012 all good as well.
Test ride one mate.I think the 3 bikes I mentioned are all at a new standard & you will be happy with any of them in yu shed!
It may come down to dollars decision for you, both should come with sli[p on akro exhuast!there are many more subtitle differences on the 449 & BMW which can easily be over looked so drop us a line if you like!
Good luck & have fun wit it, KFP Aka Garry
Hey Cat Girl
You weren’t the only nutters out there today, I also ran into the the other 2 guy’s on Howes & later at Laguna when they fueled up.
My track was way to rocky & slippery so I had a short day but Howe’s was pritty slippery on the way back had a fun but quite day!PS: you must of been in a hurry for a beer as when you past the 4×4 all I noticed was the red blur wizzzing past!
Nice to see yu still enjoying the bike’s maybe catch yu on the trail!Hi Bender
Seems you have a huge amount of advise here mate!!
There is only one peace your have not really explored I think and that is what type of riding are you most likely to do or enjoy which hopefully narrows down your choice of bikes. One bike cannot do all trails & tour with out setup change and compromises being made along the way. All bikes need to be setup for your weight & style and individual preferences. If your worried about skill level go for the light bike with the best brakes & suspension you can afford, power is nice but usable torque off the bottom end is most fun.
Good luck & have fun test ridding a few bikes first mate!!
Hi Krusty,
Sounds like your ride has a heap of flat top riding in it mate, Saturday sounds tempting to get the KTM640 out of the shed but I maybe looking at dodgy real estate Saturday morning & a quiet ride on my Harley in the afternoon?
Normal Sunday ride for me, I will be kicking off from Laguna at around 0900am Sunday on my BMW.
Your welcome to come along some trail’s to test your bike out on which can include How’s trail, the commission trail plus some stuff in between!!Drop us a line if your interested mate!!
Great Photo’s Guy’s, A Big day’s ride on all accounts!!
Hi KatGirl
Nice to meet another person crazy about riding in our awesome country side!
You have been touched by the Watagan’s Curse mate, in that you had a few off’s.
I recon if you get through there this time of year with no spills your lucky.
Oh yeah you seem to take up a heap of room on the track but I was also trying to be polite and not throw up any rocks & dust while passing, its my favorite part of track and I like to do the power slide thing on the sand corners.
I will keep an eye out for your next ride post, and maybe tag along on my KTM for a ride some time, for me its a every 2nd weekend is ride time! There was a heap of riders at the Laguna shop which had come out of the Watagan’s as well Sunday. This is a good place to have a break and a few drinks after a ride as long as the locals don’t get over run its OK. They have fuel there as well and don’t seem to mind you once they get used to there.
Catch Yu!!
Hi Jeffro
Yeah the rear Ohlins is awesome but the Mozzeki front end has now trans-formed from a stiff feal to a softer progressive feel after the new Motul 5w fork oil, same settings but softer ride, and does not bottom out awesome.
The stock oil looked to be heavy grade when I drained them.
All I have done to the bike is rear pre-load adjustment for a 110kg rider & Gear, then played with the damper settings until I was happy!!
The owners manual suggest bigger springs front & rear for my heavy butt along with expensive services every 5 hours? But its 60+hrs no service department for me BMW parts $$$!!I tend to go a little fruity ridding it the right wrist takes over….
