+3 Brains of a Retarded Blowfly

One of the best things about travelling IMO are the people you meet along the way.
AND the night we spent in Seisia we met a fantastic young bloke who is truely an inspiration to me.
Basically his story goes something like this. He’s an early 20’s jack the lad type character with his life all in front of him. Then one night driving home with his brother their car spears off the road and hits a tree. William breaks shit loads of bones and ends up in a coma on life support. At times they don’t expect him to make it. 17 days later he wakes up. He has a brain injury and can’t walk, talk, feed himself nothing. He’s like a new born baby again.
Fast forward two years and the gutsy bugger has grabbed life by the short and curlies taught himself not only to walk, talk and function again but decided to ride a push bike from Mareebe ( west of Cairns) to the Tip of Cape York.
33 stacks later we met him at Seisia just after he finished his ride and had a night out at the Fishing Club. Yes there are still signs of his injuries. He has some trouble with his speech and his motor skills aren’t perfect but his mind is as sharp as a tack. His outlook on life is just fantastic and he had me pissing myself laughing till well into the night.
For me Seisia was one best nights out on the trip. The Fishing Club had the music pumping, great grilled fish burgers, cold beer, top beach front location and plenty of laughs with four of us and William Bruce Stacey.

The ride from Punsands to the Tip was a cracker, deep sand, deep wheel ruts and was hard work here is a sample

The ride from Punsands to the tip was definately one of the highlights of the trip. The vid of the deep sand and wheel ruts doesn’t do the track justice. TB, Nick and Moose were attacking the condition, dicing there way to the tip. But me being the fool I am I left my bags on my bike and they kept getting caught on branches etc on the side of the track nearly making me stack several times. There was also several crocodile infested looking water crossing to negotiate as well. Moose was called into action here and he led the troops to safety.
All that was left to do was the walk to the tip. In our bike gear this was tougher than you’d think. It was only a klm or so but over a rocky headland track. Once there I think we all felt a great sense of achievement. I’d been waiting more than 20 years to stand at the top of Australia and the journey didn’t disappoint. It was a fantastic day.

Well done Gibbit on the race result and the Thread write up. One of the best threads on the site I reckon.
Inspirational……. Man I’d love to give it a go.
You said it was expensive, roughly how much $$$$ do you need to spend to give it a proper go?
Team OBT anyone????
Kram
I was looking at buying a cable repair kit to add to my spares for this ride but can’t get one locally.
Does anyone know where I can get one?

Bit bloody chilly in my neck of the woods this morning.

I’m still wondering if I can come for a ride if I can prep the kids bikes on Friday and just do the ride on the Saturday. I won’t be able to stay the night though, which is half the fun
I’ll keep working on Penny 👿
Kram

micknmeld wrote:Weather forecast looks good, it might be a bit chilly in the mornings but the trails will be in perfect condition and the view from The Rock will be awesome!Saturday
Areas of frost and patchy fog inland early in the morning. Sunny afternoon. Winds westerly 15 to 20 km/h. Overnight temperatures falling to between zero and 6 with daytime temperatures reaching between 11 and 18.
Unfortunately due to the MX being on, Toes and Kram probably wont make it up for the fun.
Bugger  You’re right Mick it is looking a bit tough for me. My daughter is having her first ride at the HVMC this weekend as well as Zy in the 65cc class. I tried talking Penny into taking them 👿 but no such luck.
Can you please do this ride again very soon.
Kram
Happy birthday old boy.
When are you going to post up a photo of your nice new steed.
I’d love to hear what you think of it.
You used to be cool but now you’ve gone orange
