Yes a 350.. Apparently the last one in Sydney.. I’ve never owned a brand new bike.. Been told I’m not allowed to sell it or buy another by the Minister of Finance..
micknmeld wrote:Good luck with it Krusty!!
So no more attempts at Big Red? :laugh:No 4 was enough…  I got to the top though!!!
King STM wrote:Sounds like he is moving onto the Widow Maker MickMust be a few 350’s in stock as they are down to $10290 up here. There was ad in the local paper today.
Someday I’ll have a go… I’d like to come up your way for a ride with you King!!
That price doesn’t sound right STM.. I know there are some grey imports being brought in but they cannot get full rego. Heaps of crfx250’s being brought in as well but again cannot be fully regoed.
Boony/Bollocks when is the best time in coming months to get a ride in at your neck of the woods? I’m working out a schedule
Absolute Legend!!!
EAGLE`02 wrote:What happened to the OWL headlight Krusty ???? :laugh:Looks ready to rip the singles now mate (pity the weather is warming up fst now though)
Put a Racetech on as they come with a proper 55w H4 bulb.. Been caught out too many times in the dark or dusk and the old style bayonet 35w just don’t cut it….
Some updated photos.. Now that Cameron Corner is done I put her back to trail mode for the next few months..
Hi King, as discussed I’m going to bow out this one so please update the list and pass the slot on…
Cheers….
Well it has been a busy week since returning so I’m a bit late….
I want to Thank TB for organising the ride and Nick for assisting.. I must admit I probably would have never got to where I did without you… Thanks guys it has been an honor…
Gaz.. What can I say… No real clue as to what you got yourself into until we were in the middle of it.. :woohoo: Good on ya mate you made it and conquered many things…
Thanks for being my wingman…
Mickp and Lotsa… Thanks for the great conversation and sharing your experiences whenever queried.. Top blokes and I hope I get a chance to ride with you all again…
Boulder, man I’ve seen it all now… Not sure how many times I’ve said it in the past but you are tops and always number one whenever strife rears its ugly head and always thinking of everyone else even when you yourself are in strife… Its a pleasure to have experienced what I have along side you…
Fish… What can I say… Same as your Bro.. Always jumping in first in line as well… Your kind words and encouragement provided the whole trip meant a lot even if I did give you a hard time at times(all in good fun)… Thanks for pushing me at the bottom of Big Red I was ready to give up… You get my vote for Old Bull of the Year for towing your brother 750+ k’s back to safety…
Fish and boulder thanks for the Trophy…
DJ… As I stated at Big Red you were my motivation for giving Big Red another go… Watching you keep going back for more and more trying to conquer the harder run up Big Red gave me the final push I needed.. Thanks.. I was glad to be at the top with the rest when you finally made it…
It appears the story has been pretty much told… Here are some photos and some of my perspective to go along…
Day 0
On our way…
The gangs all here and ready to go:
Day 1:
Hows this for a wood duck… We were not 30 minutes into the ride when I decided I was going to adjust my steering damper while moving in muddy terrain… Looked down made an adjustment and looked up.. Whats before me but a huge hole and about 3 4WD ruts a 1/2 meter deep and muddy… Well this is going to hurt… Tried to balance between ruts and the rear slid into the right rut and the front into the left.. Back end bounced around left and right and out the other side then over the bars and into the mud… Lotsa witnessed it all… Only thing hurt was pride… Oh and me left peck but come good 1/2 way through ride…
First nights camp site
Day 2:
Heading into the Flinders National Park
A Break on the way to Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst Pub – Where the Decision to go to Cameron Corner was made on the shitter
On the way to South Lake Eyre
South Lake Eyre with Water in it…
Day 2 Campsite: – Coming in we had to cross an empty creek full of sand.. I hadn’t realised how deep it was and hit it too slow and some how just went in a circle and fell over.. Apparently Nick was really amused and laughing his ass off.. After I got annoyed and yelled over if anyone was going to come and help as I was pinned under the bike DJ was kind enough to come and help… He asked me if I needed help and I must admit I was a bit rude and said” No I just wanted you to come over and see me”(or something like that) He ignored me and helped anyway.. Thanks for not walking off because I probably deserved it if you would have…
Day 3: Biggest Day totalled just under 600 k’s and it was f$%^&n HOT!!!! The great adventure to Birdsville!!!
Mungerannie Hotel – Best Burger I ever had… Nick said to get the Wiley Burger and thats what I got… Hot Digity Dog or should I say Burger.. It was awesome!!!
Into Queensland
We finally made it!!!
Day 4:
Only photos I got from the maintenance/recover day was DJ’s tire during bike retrieval..
Day 5:
Day started early and we went to conquer Big Red.. The ride out was pretty trick as it was deeper sand than I have experienced in the past.. Just took my time and rode with pinched cheeks most of the way… Once at Big Red TB bolted up then Fish… No one else appeared to be ready so without any thought I just went and went well until I got about 1 meter from the top and stalled dam down shift to 2nd gear.. Fish and TB went on to tell me that attempt was a no go and take my ass back down and do it again.. So I did…
Next attempt I thought I would just go faster and lean forward..  3rd gear climbing, climbing oh no cross rut bounce bounce head first into the sand… Glad it was soft…
Third attempt.. Re-read second
Was truly rooted at this point and all confidence was all but gone… I give up I thought and stripped down and started to prepare myself for the ridicule for the coming days… Drank some water had a ciggy and sat back and watched the show… Fish came down to try and encourage me a few times but I wouldn’t listen.. F%%^&* it I told him I’m done and wimping out…
DJ was next with a little words of encouragement and then up the hardest bit of Big Red.. Fail and then again fail and then again fail and then again fail.. I thought look at this bloke he is not going to give up.. Righto Krusty get your ass up there, so I suited up and off I went…
This time 2nd gear and ringing its nuts off leaned back and up I went all the way to the top.. Woo F%^&n Hoo!!!!
Then I watched DJ conquer his climb…
Leaving Birdsville
Look the Desert is on fire
Day 6:
Leaving the Dig Tree
On the road to Inn-a-Minka where everything else is Out-a-Minka
Well on this day we all made it safe and sound to Cameron Corner.. Once everyone was here and had a drink in hand:
TB raised a toast to his very good friend Mal (RIP).. Cheers Mal!!!!
We had the Corner all to ourselves and it was a great night with great company and many war stories… Glad I was able to share that night with all who were present… Cheers fellas….
Day 7:
The long road back to Silverton. Gaz and I decided we were going to ride the whole way back to Silverton with Fish and Boulder.. It was the easy way back but I believe the brothers would have done the same for us… The first leg was to Tibooburra for brecky and fuel…
The gang at the Corner
Krusty at the Corner
Welcome back to NSW
Tibooburra shots
All loaded and ready for the long drive back to Sydney at 4 am the next morning…
Along the way back to Silverton we had no real dramas just a bit of Emu and Kangaroo scares… Poor Gaz as he was nearly taken out twice once by an Emu and the second a Roo… Someone was looking after Gaz that day as a Roo shot straight out and in mid stream came to a complete halt mm from contact and turned around and went back from where he came… It was like slow motion.. If he would have kept going it would have been a dead centre broadside and at 110 kph, probably messy.. But nope Roo turned on a dime, it was amazing to watch and scary as well…
A few k’s out of Broken Hill I’m riding along side Fish and he is making these weird arm movements with his left hand lifting it in the air and tilting his head back.. I thought oh he wants a drink.. I gave the thumbs up and said to Gaz who was leading in the Blue tooth that he shouldn’t be surprised if we head straight to the Silverton Pub before going to the trailer park… Thats what we did and we found the boys who went the other route just arrived and drinks in hand…
We had a drink or 2 and then Gaz and I headed off first.. This proved to work against us.. Shortly after arriving back it starts to really piss down rain and lightening/thunder the works… The skies opened up after staying closed for us the last 7 days.. Anyway Fish’s 4wd pulls up with the rest of the gang all 7 of the bastards who come bolting out of the truck like there is a fire and yelling “quick pack up we need to get out” “the creeks are filling we’ll be trapped for 3 days”.. “hurry hurry”.. Well Gaz and I run like chooks with our heads cut off into our cabin and start packing.. I’m trying to quickly deflate my self inflating pillow and Gaz is yelling “Theres no time for that Krusty” and everyone is laughing or nearly crying their heads off.. We finally get it these crackers were just joking and we fell right for it… I must admit it was a funny ass sight to see and even I laughed… Bastards….
The evening wound down and off to bed we went it was the end to one hell of an adventure and something I truly will never forget…
OLD BULLS – CAMERON CORNER 2011
Tick
Thanks for reading………
Arrived home safe after a hell of an Adventure… It was absolutely fantastic…
Trailboss wrote:Jeffro wrote:I would guess the Owls and Deejay are towing Boulder down the highway and TB and Nick are off on their own adventure.Nah Jeffro Fish towed Boulder down the slab for the last 400, Krusty and Gaz slabbed also.
Nick, DeeJay, Lotsa, Mickp and myself took the deep sand and 54 gate option dirt to the end ride and still beat them to the pub in Silverton
TBKrusty and Gaz chose to ride back with the brothers in case there were any other dramas as each time the group split we seemed to have one drama or another… It wasn’t all slab as 1/3 of the 340k still provided an opportunity for something to go wrong at 90-110 km h towing a bike… Making sure the boys got back to Silverton safely and had backup seemed to be the right thing to do than the deep sand and 54 gates option……..
Team OWL is tracking well. Got fuel in Blaxland. Spot tracker is working.
Just gone through Orange.
I’m as ready as I can be..
Gaz is picking me up Thursday evening and we head off around 3am Friday.. :woohoo:
See ya’ll in Silverton….
