What a great evening.. Thanks again TB I really enjoyed the night learning, chatting and dvd screening..

This is the second time I have had to shim the valves.. It was done about about 4000 k’s ago the first time.. Next I will be taking the head off (or TB will) and get the head done by Greg Ball..

First time around it was done in sort of a hurry so TB got stuck right into it while I stood back and tried to stay out of the way :P so learning was minimal.. This time around though I got to see it done up close and got to ask questions etc.. One of the things I took away from it is the basic maintenance i.e.; clean air filter is so important.. I understand that the most likely cause for the intake valve wear is improper air filter maintenance..

It was good fun and I hope to be able to tackle it myself if the time ever comes again..

    Cheers…

Krusty seeing you have been asking about chain tension I’m sure you have played with the chain adjusters on your DRZ. If ya stand back and have a look at them you will see they are the shape of a snail. Not many bikes have this style adjuster any more. Like TB said race bikes go for a system that is faster to change the wheel but needs more tools to adjust the chain.

Ok.. My XR400 had those type as well.. My old WR had a slider thingy like the DRZ400SM..

    Thanks Fellas…

Well I had her out on the trails this weekend.. Decided to take my little girl to the Owl farm and dragged my bike along.. Both knee and bike performed awesome.. I had her blasting down some tight singles and it took awhile to get some confidence but man o man she performed well and helped with confidence as she just stuck like glue and went right where I pointed her.. The heavier spring TB put on before the corner made a difference I reckon.. I had her jumping as well got some huge air(weel huge for me ;) ) and not one bottoming out..

Trouble starting it cold but hopefully fixed this week

15/44 is to tall for the trails I now believe.. I have a 47 that Gaz took off after purchasing his DR so I’ll throw it on for the coffs trip and see how it goes…

Yeah Boony pain in arse them headlight assemblies..

Seems there are more than few to create OBT tent city.. Since STM mentioned that the camp cook house next to a lagoon/BBQ area is next to the un-powered sites section maybe we should try and group the OBT sites as close to the camp cook house BBQ area as possible..

spoke with boulder and he is setting up near there as I am..

    Cheers…

After the corner ride I have now re-setup the Banana back to normal.. Stock Tank and Seat etc.. I’m going to leave the 15/44 gearing and see what happens in the trails.. I suspect it will be all right as I ran taller gearing on the XR400K which I actually prefer, but I may take the rear back to a 47 and leave the 15 time will tell and with coffs coming up I’ll know for sure…

On the corner trip my front headlight assembly was shattered.. Decided to remove the stock shroud and its over weighted bracket mounts… What a pain in the @$$.. I had to remove the forks to get the brackets out.. Dam engineers need to quit smoking crack when they design stuff..

I bought a Polisport Enduro and managed to find a 45 Watt bulb to replace the crap 35w that came with it.. I’m quite happy and its look is a bit sleeker imo.. I know post and thread is useless without photos, but they will come soon I promise.. :P :P

I decided to dismantle my exhaust as some of the boys on the corner trip commented at its nasty crackling sound and it was a bit loud too.. Low and behold there was no packing.. Just a tube with holes in it that ran down the center of the exhaust housing.. I purchased some exhaust packing and and wrapped the tube with one layer and used tie wire to hold it in place.. I couldn’t believe the difference in sound and level.. It is now a bit quieter and the crackling is gone..

Thanks to a top bloke and previous OBT of year I acquired a replacement front rim as mine was cracked and the repair we had done did not last past the corner ride..

I also managed to acquire another large tank.. This time a 28 liter tank.. Scored it off ebay for $325.. Great shape and fits like a glove, except of course the cross bar that mounts under the tank between the fixed shrouds.. The biggun header is routed different from the stock one and is in the way.. Turns out the DRZ400E stock header works with the Biggun exhaust.. I’ve yet to confirm this but from what I have observed it looks like it is so.. I plan on re-mounting the stock header so the 28 liter tank is usable.. :woohoo:

    Thanks for reading……….
