Nick get the whipps rack.. It was gold this weekend and a little 5 liter fuel can fit perfect.. I strapped her real good yeah real good..    I know you dont need the extra fuel with your monster 28..

I think I will carry it for Camerons if I can comfortably fit the tent, mat, and sleeping bag as well.. Still debating on the Wolfman Enduro Bags from Adventure Moto http://www.adventuremoto.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=62_45&products_id=197 I would like to keep as litle as possible OFF my back.. Krusty needs room for his Tampons

Hoping to complete my list today and next ride (unsure at the moment) all mounted up.. My Tank showed up Monday.. Yeah!!!! B) I plan on doing what this old bloke did.. http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13684463&postcount=39 Since mine is completely empty I will first find out her full capacity from complete empty. Then after a long ride drain as he did and mark the tank.. That old bloke is funny..

Nick I road mine up the pacific highway to Wauchope from Newcastle with 13/48 and sat on 110+ at times. The gearing isn’t that critical once you get around 14/42, 14/44, 15/44. Anything around that will be fine, I rode mine the other day for a quick run and wound it out to almost 150 before I backed off, that was pretty close to the limit.

So going on Krusty’s workings, what I said is about right. 14/42 to 15/44 there is very little difference, only 0.2 of a kmh so don’t stress over it too much.

Yes mate.. Sorry i didn’t mean to imply anything your way jeffro.. I just plucked 150 KPH out of thin air..

Nick 15 will fit fine and it will be better for you chain life.. I grounded my case saver.. When I put the plastic cover on, it rubbed ever so slightly.. Put bike on stand, started, put in first, let run for 2-3 minutes, no more grinding on plastic.. ;)

When I was looking at the gearing for the XR I learned a lot about averaging out gearing.. One of the most trusted names in the US when it comes to XR’s and gearing (Motard Racer) is a bloke named John Rushworth.. Read his stuff he is the man when it came to XR gearing but you can learn about true average gearing as well as the best performance you will get and what it means to you and your bike.. I know some think it is as simple as rear/front but it is really not.. You have to consider MP/RPM which equals Maximum Power RPM.. The level of RPM you get maximum power from the motor.. It must be considered when discussing gearing.. You must also consider primary drive ratios.. The XR400 had 2.83 Primary and MP/RPM of 8000 while the DRZ400E (S and other models are different) is 2.96 and MP/RPM is 7600.. 1st through 5th gears ratio is important too.. I believe the Rev limiter kicks in around 10,000 RPM..

So what does it mean for us Banana owners.. I don’t rev my motor while it is screaming at 150 kph.. I want a sweet spot of 115-120 kph.. Guaranteed my motor will out last yours as I won’t force her to scream bloody murder as she is over reved… Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and that is mine…

Use the force Luke, Use the force…

I understand Max Power = Maximum and you wont get any more power after this point but just more stress..

    Stock 14 – 47

    MP/RPM top Speed 1st gear = 42.7 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 2nd gear = 56.3 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 3rd gear = 71.0 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 4th gear = 89.5 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 5th gear = 113.1 KPH

    Krusty Gearing 15 – 44

    MP/RPM top Speed 1st gear = 48.9 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 2nd gear = 64.5 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 3rd gear = 81.3 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 4th gear = 102.4 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 5th gear = 129.4 KPH

    Chop Chops Gearing 14 – 41

    MP/RPM top Speed 1st gear = 49.0 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 2nd gear = 64.6 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 3rd gear = 81.4 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 4th gear = 102.6 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 5th gear = 129.6 KPH

    Another Gearing 14 – 42

    MP/RPM top Speed 1st gear = 47.8 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 2nd gear = 63.0 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 3rd gear = 79.5 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 4th gear = 100.2 KPH
    MP/RPM top Speed 5th gear = 126.5 KPH

Take with it what you will………….

    Cheers…

Tall for what? I held third gear steady zooming down tight fire trails with water diversion humps Saturday hovering between 50-65 kph.. I don’t do a whole lot of tight single track or crazy snotty hill climbs like at the poker run.. I like to cruise and play easy.. Bones take to long to heal at 44 than 24 mate…

Not sure about the clutch.. A question to be answered by someone else.. What makes you feel the clutch would suffer?

Hey boony.. yeah went to 15/44 I think I may try a 42.. for $48 it is worth finding that gearing your happy with.. I don’t like to over rev me engine so I will gear so she can sit on 120 kph like stock sits on 90 kph..

I think long term I will make 15/44 my permanent setup..

How good was that Kat.. That shot of the Oh my knee Oh my knee photo is gold!!!

Kat your on the trail knee assessment was correct. Doc said that I seem to have Lateral Collateral Ligament stretching/bruising and possibly Medial Collateral Ligament bruising.. Instructions were rest and if pain does not subside by Wednesday he gave me a referral for x-rays.. I need to him again friday and then physio on friday for exercise instructions.. He gave me Anaprox 550 which appears to be an anti-inflammatory.. Did various tests and he was surprised at how little pain there was for the tests performed.. Only pain is bending past the point of standard sitting position and a slight bit while walking..

Looks like I may have got off lucky…

Well what can I say.. Nothing better than good company, clear skies and a day in the saddle.. 360 K’s round trip from home to home for me.. It wasn’t as bad as I had expected however we had some short breaks here and there to break up the monotony.. I departed home around 8 a.m. and got to the meeting point around 20-25 minutes later.. After a quick woof down of a Bacon Egg Sandwich a cappuccino and a hello how goes it between TB, Kat and I we headed to the meet point..

Tar Tar and more Tar.. I changed the gearing on Saturday to 15/44 from 14/46 and she liked it a whole lot better.. Sweet spot was about 115 but she would take 120-125 before the revs started to concern me.. I don’t like to high rev and I know some other banana owners have done 125+ on the stock gearing but too much screaming from the motor for my liking.. After arriving at the meet point we laughed and joked and laughed and joked.. I found a text message from Mick and Lotsa explaining what their situation was.. We waited for about 40 minutes and decided to head their way as TB knew the path they were taking.. Some good fun down a fire trail jumping water diversions and the like we finally ran into the boys.. Some hellos and hows it goings and then off our separate ways..

Everything was going great blasting along enjoying the tracks and then around 20-30 minutes from Wollombi my day went to shit.. I hit something in the middle of the road just before a right hand corner and the bike began to buck.. I stuck my legs out to try and get balance back and I came down hard onto my right leg while it was stiff bending at the knee either in, out or slightly opposite of the normal bend I’m really not sure.. Pain rushed through my leg very intense and the ordeal caused me to veer to left towards the left edge of the road while in the turn.. Adrenaline kicked in and some how I managed to keep the bike riding along the slight berm on the edge and brought it back to the middle of the road.. I slowed down, came to a stop, got off the bike and hit the ground as the adrenaline subsided and the pain came to life.. After a few minutes the pain subsided and we continued on to have lunch.. Depending on how I walked the knee would give out and the leg collapse, so I walk very little and tried to suck as much sympathy from TB and Kat as one could, however they would have none of it.. Very funny pics of this to come I’m sure.. :P

We continued on to Laguna and then Wisemens Ferry and then onto Windsor.. I got home around 5 p.m. packed up an stripped down.. Based on advice from Kat and TB I propped the leg up and iced it 20 min on 20 min off for the next 3-4 hours.. By the end of the night it was very stiff and I cold barely walk on it.. When I awoke this am it wasn’t as pain full however still stiff and I cannot bend it very much before it starts to hurt.. Slightly swollen on the outside(right leg).. Walking is do-able without to much pain.. hmmmmm… I see a doc at 9 am and I guess go from there..

Hopefully Kat and TB are right and she comes good quickly.. A pulled muscle or tendon is what they seem to think I did??

Thanks to Kat and TB for a great day..

    Cheers…
    A slightly broken Krusty…

If no takers tomorrow, I’ll ride Sunday to Bilpin and back to the coast.
