I knew you were bored and needed something to do!! :P

Well after getting back to the hood OWL02 parked his bike and OWL01 fired up the XR and we went for another ride.. This time to North Sydney as My computer room aircon at work was alarming.. Its f*&^%ed and I’m waiting on the emergency call out bloke.. OWL01 has abandoned me and headed back.. Looks like I will get to try out the front headlight this evening…

I stripped it back, mainly all the plastics and tank and got me an air box cover, then gave it the muc-off treatment.. It looks even better now.. I will eventually do even more of a detail cleaning i.e.; baked on dirt to exhaust and some gooey chain lube stuff along the top of swing arm and crud in the suspension linkage etc.. I think I will ride, crash and burn her for awhile and then get a whole new set of plastics and let Tee and Cee cover em up..

    Tasks done so far

Removed the fat ugly rear unit (brake light and indicators) and put on an Acerbis thingy with LED tail light.. There was some old mini indicators that was in the box of stuff and I put them on the rear frame about half way on the rear fender, looks alright and does what I wanted..

Removed most all the stickers.. Now you can see the tank fade
    Replaced Clutch and Brake Levers
    Replaced Hand Grips
Replaced Plastic portion of the EGO Barkies
    Adjusted cockpit
    Added GPS mount
Added new wiz bang rear tail bag with new tool roll and pack..
    Added my front fender bag.
    Completed inspection

    Still to do (today)

    Flush radiators
    Change Oil and Oil Filter
    Adjust Chain
Adjust rear sag (TB don’t know it yet but he will be doing it today :) )

I ran into a few surprises or difficulties however you want to look at it.

Bolts holding on the Bash plate seemed to be over tightened and I stripped the allen key holes.. :( She is sorted though after I gave em the message with Mr Grinder and Mr. Drill

The Front sprocket cover lower bolt snapped.. :( Not sure what I am going to do yet.. It was very very tight and I think inserted cross threaded.. I put a bit into undoing it and the bolt snapped clean off leaving a small amount sticking out..

The 2 phillips head screws holding the throttle housing on the bars were stripped and wouldn’t allow a good grip to undo.. Mr Grinder and Mr. Drill sorted that I replace with some nice allen key holed screws..

    yes operator error……..

I have thought about the KLX450 Corey however would it survive a 2800 K trip to and from the corner as easily as a DRZ or XR? Out of all the long distance desert type rides I have read about.. I have never seen much of any other bikes than DR650, DRZ400, XRxxx and the likes..

How many cross country rides like the one we are doing in October have the various high compression 450’s done? I’m talking amateur not Race events.. How many tour companies offer these same bikes on their tours?

My choice in bike will be about all around functionality as well as cost.. Did the XR400 meet my criteria.. Yes it did.. However I want to try something new and I also want the magic button…

100% about money 0% about saving lives IMO..

The roads in this country are shocking.. They are not wide enough and no where near 1st world standard.. If you have ever been over to the US or Europe you will know what I mean.. I have been to Syria and other places in the middle east and the roads are even better there and they are supposed to be 3rd world..

The Australian road fatality is because of shit roads, cheap cars and poor driver education.. Germany is the country to model on..

In the US the state of Arizona has just removed every speed camera in the entire state because since they installed them the road fatality has gone up not down.. Plus they admitted it was about revenue raising and was also considered an invasion of privacy..

Nothing we can do about it as the governments will always do what they want not what we want..

Funny how we never have any money for our infrastructure needs but they always have money to kill people in far away places..

    Like Ollie………….. Disgruntled….
