Well after a week sitting in the cold by herself I played around this weekend and added the last few bits I was waiting for from the US.. The carby adjustment I did last week seemed to have done the trick.. I turned the fuel on, gave her 3 full throttle twists, turned up the idle a bit and kicked.. 3rd kick she fired up.. woohoo :woohoo:

The clutch and brake levers I got from the US turned out to be a waste of money.. :S The brake lever was useless for the XR400  and the clutch lever hole was too small  for the new shaft bolt I bought from Honda..

Then while putting the old lever back on I had a brain fart and snapped the clutch lever perch.. :P Went to MCA in Auburn and picked up a new perch, clutch lever and brake lever as well as some more new bling bling.. I got me some stubby levers so I didn’t need to cut off the ball on the end.. I also added my new colored petrol cap, red valve caps and aluminum chain guide.. The final item…A set of B&B aluminum frame guards…

The ride with TB on the 5th showed that my plate placement was no good as I dropped the bike and bent me OWL 03 plate  .. Molech was not happy about that.. :P So I moved it onto the top of the rear fender.. I think it actually looks better and it won’t bend now.. ;)

I will be taking a bunch of photos of her final form this weekend as I’m going away for 3 days of drinking and riding at OWL 01’s hidden paradise AKA “Lodge”

What is the build quality like of the Aloop kit? All fit good with no issues?

Pretty good actually.. Instructions were not the best but in the end it fits well.. A few down sides I guess..

First is I lost 1.5 liter fuel capacity but I still think I can get 130k out of her.. I will find out this weekend as I plan to ride her from full to reserve to dead empty to clock an average distance capability..

Second is the nice roomy access you have to the carby area and spark plug is diminished..

I also don’t like the second petcock placement on the right hand side..

I will try and take some up close photos of the kit this weekend for you…

Looks good Bol… How long did they take to do your shrouds up? Did you post them the shrouds and they post em back..

Curious as to the turn around as the XR400K will get an old bull make over in the future I reckon…

Hopefully in 2 months I will have my RED 22 liter tank from the US.. Then I can join in on this adventure ride fun too.. :)

    Too funny……………….

As OWL01 put it, it is a play/joke/satire whatever you want to call it on secret societies.. Most notably the ones that the world elite (those in control of the world, money supply, energy and economies) are apart of since they are the sickest…

Ours is the best as we worship beer and chookies… :P

    All hail Molech..

Well after its maiden voyage I was not happy with the Edelbrock setup.. She was hit or miss on getting her started and when cold I had trouble keeping her running.. Once she was fully warmed up no real issues other than mini machine gun backfires on deceleration..

The throttle response was pretty good, no bog and no instant in your face response but sort of eased into the power.. This allowed a much easier use of the torque of the engine..

Well… :P I decided I wanted to eliminate the back firing once and for all.. I got a hold of the Edelbrock manual and started reading.. Low and behold I was never “really” adjusting anything every time I thought I was making it richer.. The Edelbrock has this cool little dial a thingy on the top of the carby.. It allows you to adjust the needle inside bringing it up or down to modify rich or lean.. All the stuff you read on the net mentions just pushing down on the adjuster and turning it right for richer and left for leaner.. However the part everyone always leaves out is the throttle has to be at “full throttle” to do the adjustment..

Once I did that I could feel some resistance and felt the click.. I went 1 click to the right.. Turned the idle up slightly and she kicked over first go.. Idle was fairly steady, starting out high and adjusting itself down slightly, then I fine tuned it down more.. Took her for a run up the street, hit third gear and let go of the throttle.. Very little back fire but still there.. Adjusted it one more click to the right and took her for another run up the street.. This time no back fire.. I gave her a fist full and got shocked as she now has a bit more in your face responsiveness.. Nothing like the newer bikes but better than the stocker..

Now that I know how to properly adjust the Edelbrock the next run on the trails I hope to get it perfected even more..
