He was a big boy and upgraded to a KTM 510 I think..
Thanks everyone… The big test will be a ride….
It has been said many times that Honda should have just updated in 2005 and added a starter and maybe the style and look of the BRP.. They decided to give up on it… Makes one wonder though.. Mate of mine just grabbed himself a brand new DRZ.. He went with it based on the thread I started “which bike”.. Sold his XR as he wanted the electric leg…..
I’ve been going through the numbers I’ve recorded since purchase.. I’m sitting around $5.5K all up over a one year period.. However $1k is pure bling and was probably a bit unnecessary..
I rode up and down the street today trying to fine tune the pumper carby.. she is a bit troublesome getting started when cold, but once warm she was OK except for the farty fart fart mini back fires(machine gun) on deceleration working down the gears.. I played around with the lean/rich adjuster on it and was able to get rid of the mini back fires.. Went slightly richer….
More pictures I took this avo.. Ready to go and ready to be dirtied up………
Nice Ass
Well It took me all day but I finished… The A-Loop Kit was a little bitchy but ooo-lala.. Feels nice sitting so forward.. Pretty much turned out the way I was picturing it however it does look beyond my expectations..
The CRFX ADR compliant rear brake light and plate holder was not a perfect fit and is slightly coked to one side.. Works well though… I’m still waiting on my brake and clutch levers, gear selector lever and alloy chain guide.. I fitted the carbon fiber frame guards and was a bit disappointed as they were not a perfect fit and didn’t look as good as expected.. I think I will be leaving them off…
After these photos were taken I added my rear tool bag, front fender bag and foldable mirror.. I’ll take more photos but I want to wait until I have some Sun..
Here you go Mal……..

The kettle in the kitchen normally trips it but our floor vac does as well as the microwave.. I also trip it when I run the microwave and the kettle at the same time..Do you have safty switches?
Yes at the main box is one of those Special cutout switches but that is not tripping the regular breaker isHow old is the house?
25+ Years?Does the dryer run ok alone?
Yes all by itself fineIs their any moisture in the laundry or is it raining?
Some moisture but not heaps and we normally open the laundry door to the outside so minimal moisture if any at all..mal5.1 wrote:
Quote:Got a close up pic of your bars mounts. They look trick.I’ll take one for you… They are good… I have heard from many that the XR line was the only line that Honda for whatever reason did not center the bars with the forks in the top triple clamp.. Makes the cock pit area seem cramped as the bars feels a bit too close to you and with these standing has a much nicer/comfortable feel… I noticed it when I went from the orignal XR I had to the WR250 then back to the XR.. Most of the Sepos add the bar up and forward mounts. I believe most after market Top triples for the XR400 move the bars forward 20-30mm and some up 20mm
I plan to get some Tee N Cee kit for my bling machine.. Just have to sneak it past the minister of finance…

Mind you, afterwards you’ll have a keeper! Very impressive!
Do you mean as in “good” or “bad” for the 2k price purchase?
Hey Kram… I painted my hubs myself.. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts… I rekon a good powder coat or anodize is the go.. If you have the coin just buy Talon pre-colored hubs.. for some reason the Anodizers we used didn’t want to do our hubs just the rims..
Hey Mick how you traveling!!

Thanks Fellas.. Yeah TB loves holding a tool in hand.. :woohoo: Great leader as well!! This apprentice pretty much learned everything needed to fully maintain my bike without paying someone else to do it for me now.. The process of replacing all the bearings and I mean ALL, every bearing and seal that is on the bike was an interesting and a long drawn out exercise.. Took nearly 3+ hours, removing old sleeves, collars, bearings crazy stuff..
I will however be buying TB a Vice for his birthday… Man has everything a motor bike workshop needs except for a Vice!!! :woohoo: :silly:
I was a bit disappointed I didn’t have more time so we could have completed it at TB’s.. TB got to play with the carby though.. He managed to get it on and re-cabled with minimal drama.. Then after about 6 kicks she fired right up.. The famous XR400 bog is now gone and I can’t wait to get it on the trails for a power test or 2..
I think once I finish it up Saturday me and some mates will ride up to TB’s so he can enjoy it and his work in the flesh…
When she runs now the sound she makes Baaalingggg ing ing ing Baaalingggg ing ing ing Baaalingggg ing ing ing :woohoo:
Ran out of time as today it is my daughters B-Day. The final product won’t be done until Saturday.. I’ll post the finished product photos then.. I still have to assemble the A-Loop Kit and do some other odds and ends stuff..
I think TB may have some other photos of the process…
Cheers…
