thanks corey but I’m after what type you guys think is currently on it not what I should get ;)

I would also like the color code if anyone knows where to look… It seems 96-98 had a gray (almost machine gray) looking color on the frame then in 99 they went to the silver color..

Hi XRTRAILHACK – Cracks on the kick stand mount is common with these beasts and will occur quicker if you start your bike while standing on the kick stand.. They really are not setup to take the weight of the bike as well as an 80-100 kilo bloke.. If it is early wire brush it back and find someone who can tig weld and weld a bead over the existing one..

I recommend you start trying to get your swing arm bolt out and greased up or use no seize or whatever it is called.. It took TB and I about 1-1.5 hours to get mine out as it was seized in place.. WD40, heat and huge sledge hammer.. :woohoo:

I got my bike completely stripped today (Thanks TB) and the frame is no where near as bad I as I thought so after getting the repairs done I will just clean it up and touch it up..

Would this be viewed as a good thing by the KTM rider community?

Do you have any photos of the repairs you require?

Are XR frames chrome molly steel or thick walled mild steel?

No photos yet.. I will try and take a few.. I believe mild steel..

I basically have 2 issues one minor and one major.. Under the motor are the 2 tubes like in the above photos.. One of those tubes has a 5 cent piece size hole(maybe bigger) on the under side.. The other is at some point the kick stand was torn off and the re-weld is a bit dodgy and I wanted that cleaned up as well.. The work on the underside is no where near as big a job as the example I provided..

I do know some parts of the frame are extremely thin I watched a mate try and re-weld his kick stand on a 250 and poked holes everywhere.. I believe it will require someone with a lot of Tig skill.. That Penrith mob seems to be the way to go as Greg Ball said he was too busy and couldn’t consider it for 4-5 weeks.. Unless of course someone among the clan is skilled and willing to work for Bundy/Beer.. 😆

;) I’m sure you will get the answers you seek from the good folks on here, I was just having a little fun, If I have a chance to take the piss I will, and I expect the same in return – if I was to get 1 piece of good advice out of 100 replies than it would be worth it. IMO this site is full of mature riders, who have a wealth of knowledge on many/varied issues, but I don’t believe it would be such a great place if we all didn’t have some fun/take the piss along the way.

    sorry if I have offended

I wasn’t offended and an apology was not needed.. ;) B)

Whilst I mainly agree with you, you do have to realize that this is a public forum, free to post and you, and everyone else, subject opinions for the world to see. If everyone agreed the world would be a boring place.

agreed but there is always a time a place even on a public site… I ran a site from 1998 to about 2001 as big if not bigger than a Thumper Talk site (Different Topic) so I’m quite familiar with varying opinions and the passion as well as egos that goes along with it. We had an area of the site called the Shark Tank and it was the place for anything and everything that was off topic and we allowed “everything” Worked well and all Topic based forums stayed on topic and hardly ever strayed off course. when they did stray off course the admins/moderators would kindly ask they take their discussion to the Tank and have at it there.. The biggest thread we had was well over 1000 posts and it stayed on topic…………..

I have investigated the new frame/used frame route.. By the time I pay for the frame/shipping, cancel my current rego and have to pay for a fresh new rego I’m up for a lot more money that trying to fix what I have…

I understand mate and I’m not getting defensive about XR’s since I can care less what anyone thinks about me or the bike I ride and which label is on it.. What I was going on about was I need help to solve a problem.. I was trying to stop ahead of time what happened last week with my simple question about what bike I should consider when I’m ready to move on..

I have had a good look through this forum and its past posts.. There are a shit load of XR cat fight threads and it is actually pretty sad to see as this is suppose to be a mature riders forum.. As someone new it is pretty un-impressive.. Once, twice maybe three times but nearly ever single thread that discusses something revolving around an XR turns into 75% of the thread being off topic and little 16 year old posts about whose d$%^k is bigger than whose..

I’m definitely not perfect and don’t get me wrong I like having a bit of fun too but the old XR jokes are a bit old and worn in my opinion… I see it on other forums as well not just this one…

very funny…. I would be more than willing to go visit Sutto as long as you give me the 14k I will need..

Please don’t get started on the typical shit fight you boys like to have about XR’s as I’m not interested.. If you are not genuinely interested in helping then F$%k off and don’t respond.. :P
