Im not saying that an engine water temp will reach 190 degree’s C either, but it is nice to know that it will boil at a higher temp and thus offer far greater confidence when the going gets tough ;) I am a mechanical engineer of 30 years as well and have studied thermal dynamics ;) What I am saying for $35 a litre give it a try if it works great! if not what have you lost?

Ps I like the pretty pictures :P

Ollie this is one time i will have to agree with TB if you run a engine at anything over 120deg c you will be killing it stop the engine and wait for it to cool down or fit a fan i dont run any kind of coolants as there all foaming agents and cause realy bad water pump cavation
the most unreliable part of a cooling system is the cap i replace mine reguarly and it only takes a small amount of junk under the suckback valve and there will be coolant spewing out at a lot less pressure than what the 1.4 -1.8 pressure its suppose to hold

Ring end gap is easy 4thou per inch of bore for soft riders
6 thou per inch of bore for some one that revs the motor hard or supercharge/turbo

to check piston to bore clearance i heat the piston in a pot of oil starting at room temp and go up in 10 deg incremt till piston wont go down the bore you want to do this fast as you want to keep the bore at room temp

what you are finding out is what sort of a temp increse you can get before it nips in the bore if you cant get to 80deg it will fail in short time

you can measure with dial bore gauge etc but wont take in to account the different expansion rates

Ecks, depending on your weight maybe you maybe able to use the OEM titanium rear spring from the 450, I was able to, saved a few dollars as they can be had for a 6 pack.

I got a rude shock tonight, sat on mine and the rear linkages are a bit “tight” and I’ve got a big ride on next saturday, so might have to do an emergency grease or something tomorrow cause it’s too late to replace all the rear bearings at this stage.

Bugger Bugger Bugger. Would it be too much to ask Mr Yamaha to put some grease nipples in these things?

    BC

or a pds as this wont get tight and only takes 5min to greese   😆 :woohoo:

Unfortunately I am going to have to postpone this weekend as I am due to upgrade my scrutineers license for the motocross club and this is the only weekend that they are able to do one in this area would the 17/18 or the 24/25 Anzac weekend be better for everyone
