Cheers mate, it was definitely easier than 2012 as I knew what to expect from a terrain and time frame point of view and I am probably more ride fit but it was still tough work.

The Longest day 2014
Well it has been another awesome and successful LDR to the Cameron Corner. I would like to thank everyone for their support and best wishes during the ride. For those of you who may wish to know my total was 1295km in 12hr 46min with a moving average of 110km/h and a total stopped time for refueling and eating of exactly 1hr.
It is very demanding on the mind as concentration and hydration is the key. I travelled around 900km of dirt in total, with a main stop of around 15min at Cobar to eat and refuel.
For me this is the point where the real riding is done and where you and the bike must be in perfect shape in order to achieve success. Heading north-west to Louth then through to Wanaaring where the sand is thick and unpredictable as is the wild life!!! The type of tyre and pressures are very important for constant hot hi-speed running in order to survive. This year on the KTM640 I used a Dunlop 952 from and 908 Rally Raid on the rear. I took the gamble and they were about 50% used. If I did it again I would probably opt for newer tyres as the return trip was very interesting……
I was the first bike to make the corner with well over 2hrs left until sunset and I could have done many more kms, however the corner was my aim.I would like to thank TB and Ride ADV for their support on this particular ride as it has made this particular attempt smoother than the first. Unfortunately TB had to pre-run the first Ride ADV event for 2015 and couldn’t make it, maybe one day in future….. Thanks also to GFMS for the preparation on the KTM 640, which has completed 3000km in 3days and not missed a beat.
Cheers,

Ready for launch and it is now time for ZZZZZ. I hope that i can make it again and are looking forward to the challenge ahead. I hope by this time tomorrow I have consumed an ale or 2 at the corner.

Lefty:laugh:   Yeah thanks Usi. I will try to get a few pics along the way.

Well as previously mentioned the Longest Day is only around a week away and as many of you are aware I have already done this particular ride. So many of you are probably thinking WTF why do it again……Why ride constantly for hours on end in 40deg + heat heading west following the sun for no particular reason other than put miles on your machine, burn fuel and wear out tyres etc. and think that it is entirely pointless. Well each to their own eh….. and after having already completed 1 successful attempt in 2012 and realising what it actually takes to do this ride, for those who have not attempted this ride may not realise what it actually takes….. For me it is not only the physical challenge it is more the mental challenge of being able to ride for around 14hrs with only around 1hr of stops to eat and refuel along the journey as well as overcome any other challenges should they arise along the way. This is out of the norm and introduces other risks and probably unnecessary risks at that but this is what I love about the sport.
The other thing that i am going to enjoy about this particular ride, should it go to plan, is that I will be taking a couple of full days to return taking in some other parts of NSW that I have not seen.
So here is the 640 ready for launch……Cheers,
LeftyThe LDR is only just over 1 week away! Time to get organised!!
Cheers,
LeftyThanks Mick,
We will see how we go mate. I bit of prep still to do for the 3000k round trip. I have changed the gearing for longer legs and fuel economy. Hoping to pick my forks up tomorrow from Teknik as I had a seal turn to custard on the last ride and Nick has a better seal to put into the WP forks. Need to change the oil and filter and the usual air filter clean with a spare. I have one of these new lithium batteries which isn’t worth a nugget of goat shit, so that will get the launch for a new one…….. Hopefully the tyres will do the trip I have a used 952 on the front which is not too bad and a used 908 Dunlop on the rear which should last another 3000k……. fingers crossed :unsure:Cheers,
LeftyGlad you are excited to get it back Strucky.
It was a great effort by all involved but the man to get it to happen was TB.
Great Job Mate!! :woohoo:
Cheers, Lefty
Ahh! Not good Boll.
enjoy the rest of your trip mate.
Cheers, Lefty
I must say that TB is doing a great job on the rebuild of the Kings Tenere. I haven’t really done much just supervised and casting an eye or two over the project. Oh!! I did get the lower steering head bearing out……. As TB flagged that job for a little while
Anyway its coming along great and it wont be long before TB……. oops the King  is wheel standing it up Attunga Rd.
Cheers Lefty
Yeah TB that is what I have. So far so good. But I only use the chest and back protector not the full kit. Longevity is still in question but we will see and give me another few months and I will report on it.
Cheers,
LeftyPS; it will be bloody hot I reckon in summer…..
