Is this normal and I just have to get used to it, or can I adjust the visor, or should I take the visor off? My helmet is a Aria Tour Cross. Also I put goo in the tyres to help with punctures, could this affect the wheels balance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers JimWind noise is best dealt with using earplugs, special ‘moulded to fit you personally’ ones are available but expensive. I use the disposable ones I nick from work.
Make no mistake the wind noise will deafen you, I have industrial deafness and I reckon its from years of riding. The level and the length of exposure are the factors both working against you on a motorbike.
My helmet is a Arai xd or somthing like that, its an expensive dual sport type and its still noisey. I also use earplug speakers to my MP3 and listen to music while I ride, it is distracting at first but it helps and the right music can get you in the mood…
I have not used goo but I believe it can unbalance the wheels.
I hope this helps
Scotthey Jeffro,
Thats a nice dint you got there. I got ones in my vstrom also.I had one last tyre change, that caused a leak, so I flogged it out with a soft face [nylon] hammer. The trick is to leave the tyre on and fully inflated during the flogging, but I dont want any responsibility if it does not work…..
I think they can be professionally repaired using rollers[Laurie Alderton I believe is good].
I can lend you my spare while you get that one fixed if you like?
Cheers

Hello Kat, I got an Arai and its a nice light helmet, the visor ratchet is poor and the visor comes down when I want it to stay up.I can wear goggles with my visor up or down, as the arai I have has a recess to allow the strap to sit under the closed visor. I would buy a Shoei in preference[next]. Both these helmets are expensive.
I hope this helps.
ScottHello Jeffro,
What can I say… I think you made an excellent decision, the wee strom is meant to be better than the big 1000cc, so how good is that?? They got mobs of power, and are smooth yet somehow V twin’ish. It looks like it has nice adv accessories, and I know will give you years of fun.
We should organise a ride soon heh??
If it has the standard footpegs I can recommend the pivots of course, but there is a budget alternative for $21 delivered[email me if you want details], the other ‘money well spent’ accessory is a fork brace[if it doesnt have one], little money and lots of benefit. [Richland Ricks from the USA].
Congratulations
Scott
Hello Jeffro..
At this stage it will be the vstrom, if my work runs out and I have time to fiddle the Cagiva then maybe???? But the vstrom is ready except for tyres, I asked the guys at suttos regarding tyres but they never got back to me, so I need to decide the best choice. I think the riding will be well within the vstrom capability, and it will be lots comfortable. I intend to ride all the way from home so the trip to Condo[or wherever we start] will have ‘all my everything’ onboard. I am thinking I will buy a fuel bladder
http://www.liquidcontainment.com.au/ecommerce.php?ecompage=viewdetails&stockcode=LC12.0
to make sure I have the range on longer sections. 12 litres+the full tank, should get me all up 400km in hard going. What are you riding?? Am I going to be the only behemoth??
ScottIf the support vehicle is carrying the gear then I will have a swag
, If I am carrying the gear then I will have a beaver bag  .
Cheers
ScottHello
Just a thankyou to all riders on the dualsport/duelsport ride. The ride was a hoot for me, even when I was ploughing the track with the vstrom. Sorry for the holdup it caused and extra thanks to those who helped fix the broken lever…Sorry to the american who I defamed repeatedly.
I hope TB is OK and recovering.
My r/r goes like this. The ride started with a brisk tootle down the freeway to meet n greet at Wyong. Most of the other riders seemed to be on what appeared at first to be small pumpkin seeds but later were shown to be just small. A entertaining short ride on the dirt was followed by a freezing and very foggy ride down Murrays run to Laguna. I was very cold and couldnt see jack.
The lady at Laguna seemed to take my comment about Patchouli oil as an allegation of her age, [gee I was just trying to be friendly and get a cuppa]and gave us all a laugh.
We set off back to letterboxes and up the Howes Valley trail, on one of my favourite tracks, and very suited to vstrom blasting. I tried to stick it to the boys, and was having a blast at the same time. After a stop and rest we tore off up to an intersection where a photo op was organised up the track a bit, so we staggered, and set off individually…. Turned out to be bad for me as I was then really hooting with no one holding me up, and came a nasty gutza after a big front end lose. I saw stars like in the cartoons picked the bike up and rode off. Shortly realising I had wrapped the brake lever around the footpeg and also lost my bag[thanks for recovering it ]. Support and laughs soon had me riding again but lesson learnt….
Out onto the Putty down the tar to the Milborodale trail and Tb’s nasty prang. He seemed OK, but turned out he was bad. I then proceeded to bin the vstrom again to another front end lose, this time slow and I bent the next brake lever. I had-had close to enough by then and was getting tired. The Milborodale Trail was good and bony but I was off the pace.Into Bulga and I had one of the worst Hamburgers ever, but a couple of longnecks of old soon had me forgotten about burgers and off with the fairies. The ride up the settlers trail is also one of my favourites but I struggled all the way, the bike seemed to be slipping and I was dog tired. No more ripping along for me, just struggle struggle struggle.Everyone else seemed to be ripping. The end of the trail couldnt come soon enough for me, and the trip home was cold. 380km all round.
Even though I whinge in this r/r…. I enjoyed the ride, and would go again tomorrow. Actually Scott just called and I am goin out on the XR to Catho pub from Caves Beach right NOW.

Hello Greg,
I just got back from riding the Navi home from Beerwah, checked this thread, and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Is there anything I can do to help?
Thanks for the ride and to the others as well.I hope you were enjoying as much as I was.
Vstrom will be inspected this morning for damage[but I am expecting brake lever, and twisted triple clamp/forks only].I ended up with a sore shoulder, so my lucky day I reckon.
Cheers
Scottawful late but I am in…
and I will have a mate….
I will be at the spot at 8 am…. dont leave without me please. I will be there….Cheers
ScottI am about to fly to Brisbane and ride home a Cagiva Navigator, if it looks OK I reckon I will ride it. Failing that I was going on the mighty vstrom….unless advised otherwise. The XR is marginally registered at the moment, so I will leave it as my last option. But I will need to decide soon so I can get my preparation right.
Thanks Suttos’ I am looking forward to this trip, and your support is very kind, and made this into an even better mission.I will be in touch and we can sort out some gear.
Cheers
ScottHello Truthful answer from Scott is the money, I got another expensive ride coming up to Cams corner which makes my decision easy…. and $500 skin plus getting there and other costs is probably cheap but and good value but not to me.Sorry for my honesty, $500 for one nights accommodation is dear, and I would rather follow one of my mates for free, even if we get lost, and stay in a cabin [frozen stiff
].
If I am not working I am interested but I will confirm later if thats OK
Project is good, the XR can be ridden all day and I can still walk, as opposed to the TM 300 which tries to throw me off its back and pound me to submission>>>> . I can ride and renovate at the same time- choose my torture-2stroke or 4 stroke.
The older XR aftermarket stuff is getting all used up and hard to buy new. Likewise the OEM plastics. so anyone got plastics for XR 600 or XR500 I am keen to buy.
