Thanx for leading the friday Mal,after many months a day off finally lined up.Came home tired and with a dirty bike plenty of fun.
Pleasure mate. We must have worked hard pushing the bikes, my legs were burning by the end of Saturdays ride.

The saturday conditions would have been perfect for you guys, not tempted to go up greasy hill again?
Yeh they were good. We had a bit more rain on Friday night. I didn’t want to go down that track but TB wanted a look. The track just up the road was the one we wanted. Next time mate.

Still amazed at how much greasier that hill is than the others.

cheers

This is two ride reports in one.
Friday Twobanger came for a morning fang around the Rydal area. We were on the bikes by 8:30am and off for a bit of a warm up on a couple of erosion mounded hills. Then into the first section of single tracks. With a nice drop of rain on Thursday and through the night the tracks were nice and damp and the tree roots very slippery. After the first couple of singles we stopped for a gas bag and a rest. Then off into the next two sections of nice flowing singles. There were a few trees and branches across the tracks from the recent wild weather we had. One slippery branch caught me out half way up a hill and I was spat up onto the high side of the bank and stalled. Went to put the foot down and the ground was too far away, over I go just as twobanger turned and had a laugh.

After that we came onto a fire trial and up a semi rocky hill. Then I gave twobanger a choice of tracks. This way we head for the dam and this way is a few hills and nice single track and we loop back and head to the dam. Twobanger picks the track with a few hills. He had been on it before but not in the wet I believe. One two three hills and we’re just scraping up with a stall here and there. Then we get to the last hill and I say this will be slippery. And it was. Twobanger had four goes and then we pushed him up. I had three goes and then we pushed mine up. In the dry this hill relatively easy but with a little rain it just turns to grease.
At the end of the hills track we looped back around and headed towards the back waters of the dam. Crossed the river/creek and headed for a nice single track that heads pretty much straight up for what seems forever. A fire trail winds its way back down and we crossed the river at a different spot. A couple more rocky hills and then back into some single track that leads into a sweet (in the dry)single in the pine trees. In the wet this track feels deadly as the tree roots all decide to grow at an angle just mess your day up. Twobanger then showed me another single so I could link it in for TB & Crash today and make it look like I knew where I was going.

We headed back to cars and had a bit to eat then headed back out for an hour of just touring around looking for tracks and rerode some of the singles. All up there is only about 3 – 4 hours of riding, but it’s all quality stuff. Thanks Twobanger for coming up for a ride.

Today was pretty much the same tracks. Except for the hills track as TB didn’t want to have to lift his bike with the bung shoulder (if he happened to drop it). After doing the same loop as Friday we had a snack at the cars and headed off to do them in reverse and add one more near Rydal itself. Cash had a couple of quick dirt naps. TB wanted have a look at the hills track. So we did the first two hills and it was very slippery on them so we turned around before getting to the real slippery stuff.
On the way back we decided to drop into the Rydal Pub for a beer. We pull up and there is a bus load of young girls on a Hens party…. They took a shine to Crash who was putting on his best ‘Blue Steel’ look . Then the pokadot clown (TB) walks in and the girls go wild. Not one to let an opportunity pass, TB gets his photo taken with all of them. He will post it up. Low on fuel we head back to the cars and it’s only 12:00. So we pack up and go to Tarana Pub for lunch.
Great couple of days riding with great guys. Thanks Twobanger for Friday and TB & Crash for today.
Husky is going great and I’m getting more confidant on it.

Remember kiddies always where a helmet. This guy is a professional and this should not be tried unless TB is there to guilt you into it.

Sorry to hear that Scotty. Give your daughters team best wishes from the Old Bulls. Good on them for making the grand final.

I’ll be riding there again on the 20th with Murph, so keep that weekend open. I’ll post the ride up next week.

Meeting place is at a camping area just off the Great Western Highway, Link Road is the turn off just before the 110 zone ends coming from Lithgow.

Hey TB, can you bring some stickers for the Husky?

Nothing better to do than dig at a ride just because you don’t want to/can’t do it?

Maybe the guys that like technical rides should be more outspoken about your rides (typically the type of ride they prefer not to do)?

I have a question about the Caves ride:

Wouldn’t I have been better off doing it in my Subaru?

Murph’s rides are like your rides, the people know what they are going to get when they go on them, if you don’t like them, don’t go. Like Murph said, the hills are do-able, and that’s where the challenge lies for the people that like to go on these rides.

Moto,
I’m sensing a whole heap of anger in your post that didn’t seem to be there before you went away for work. I think it’s the dirt bike riders version of “Blue Balls” – me thinks you need a release…….take the Katie for a ride….please…..this crankyness makes your forehead go all wrinkley anyway!!
OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM, OOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM
What do you reckon moley mole.

ps. the subby through the creek at dingo dell…I’d love to see that.

I had to dive into the leafy stuff to avoid hitting a big rock or breaking a leg. It was a pretty soft landing.

I was asked these questions today when some of students saw the site, regarding this thread?

A ) Would these guys be better suited to trials bikes?
Probably. But they would want one with a 500+ four stroke engine and 300mm of suspension travel. And when/if they get a trials bike ARDed in Australia they will sell like hot cakes. I’m still going to one at the end of the year though (for use on private property)

B ) Wouldn’t they be better of with trials tyres and getting more traction with torque rather then reving and spinning?
I think trials tyres on enduro bikes looks a liitle wrong. The rocky hills we rode up maybe suited to a trials tyre but I still made it up most of them with carfull use of the throttle and clutch. Some guys believe more revs = more traction. They usually dig holes. You’ll see in some of the videos that Murph is trying to stop the high rev guys from doing it and clam them down. And a 200 2t has no torque to speak of really. While son of murph revs the little 200, I have noticed that he maitains as much momentum as he can to limit wheel spin.
A trials trye is great on rocks (wet or dry). Put one on loose dusty tracks or mud and I think you worse off than a knobby.

IF someone that was there has an answer I will show the students tomorrow ;)

It did sound a bit ordinary all day. But it is a WR and Big Hol liked to rev it.

If you look hard you can see the bent bars. He started the day with them slightly bent and then had moment early in the ride and rode the rest of the day with really bent bars. Top effort I rekon.

Thanks again Murph ;)
