just been thru this thread, i own an 08 te450, only shit its given me is with the crap speedo, which they have fixed with a neat little item for new models, ala ktm, i too had fork seal troubles and agree the forks needed revalving, i had mine set up by a guy at batemans bay, dunno shop name,, sorry , never looked back since, went one tooth smaller on front, now 13/47, lowered forks a tad, put bigger tank on it from http://www.motosportz.com coz was only getting 80kms before downhill stalls due to fuel pump being at rear of tank, if i had my time again i’d go for the 310, or a god forbid, ktm, having ridden a 450ktm, seating is much lower, ergo’s are better, motor not as revvy, but you could live with that.
then again superunit on his drz400 keeps upto and passed me and that lounge chair of a seat is a godsend after 8hrs in the saddle…
vmanGood info there Vman thanks heaps. Will keep looking into them. 80 kms from a tank isn’t much. Does the bigger make it much wider/uncomfortable to ride?

Quote:with your need for more power when in motard trim.is that commuting on the black top or motard track?
do you require it for hyw speed? maybe different gearing?
just trying to get a more rounded pic of what you want/need.
i’m in no way trying to talk you out of buying a new(er) bike just throwing options up:blush:
I don’t commute much with the bike. To work (15km) and to the pub (15km) in nice weather. I have been going to track days at wakefield park and oran park with a few mates and just pulling onto the straights I would like more acceleration. Gearing would change the acceleration rate but slow top speed and I just hit the rev limiter at the end of wakefield straight now.
But i can live with that. Just thinking about something different for the bush. Would be nice if i could afford to have two or three registered bikes.

(cue- evil spidy laugh):woohoo:
Hey meanace. I’m gonna get on the gotchya machine soon hopefully.
Just worried that I would concentrate more on hanging on than laughing with you in a ‘superhuman V superhero’ race and throw it all away.
It would be hard to beat on power I rekon.
Will you two pricks stop laughing and help me before I drop the bike.
I think these were his actual words.

Quote:yes well now after googling it i know what you current ride is:blush:can i ask why you are considering a change?
not too sure really. I like the look of the huskys and if they had FI in 07 I probably would have bought one then.the 5.1 looks the goods!
Yes I know. There lies the delema.do you have mods? pipe etc? are they available ?
Barret make a pipe for it but I think it justs makes it louder and I think I could get the mapping updated if I take it to the importer. But I have enough power for the bush, would like some more for the motard side though.just a thought that a few mods would be cheaper if you get the gains from them.
anyway just another dimes worth  from me.
Thanks for your dimes worth XY.
Hey Tiny. How did OBR pull up? I think he had enough of kick starting the KTM by the end of the day.
Thanks guys for all the ideas and advice. I will try and get a ride on a 510 and maybe even the 310. Just worried the 310 wont have the tourque I’m now use to with my current 510 sherco. But as a single track weapon the 310 would be the bike of choice.
Twobanger – It was R&D I was talking to about the sensor, that’s why I asked on here as well. Next time I’m down that way I’ll drop in and ask some more questions.
You never know I might go into the sherco dealer and see the ‘new’ 09 model and want one of them.

Quote:As per our discussion on friday arvo and beer (thanks mate beat doing the lawn) I dont know what you should or I would buy.Chicken used to talk about Huskies all the time. The only thing I used to say to him was “If they have such a good warranty, are such a good bike to ride and are priced cheap why do you never see them at trail rides or races”
Finke is an example 14 out of 469 entries, I am not saying there is anything wrong with them, Tiny never has any dramas (execpt his speedo) and he has done some miles on his, but why are there so few around considering all they have going for them?? I am asking cause I dont know??
I cant see why it would’nt be worth trying one Mal, surely you could get a demo for trial couldnt ya?

Quote:One question for all the FI tech heads is the dealer told me they take the 02 sensor off the exhaust and change the map setting to the race setting and not having the 02 sensor doesn’t affect the engine’s mapping. Is this correct. What would be the consequences of me leaving the 02 sensor in the exhaust – the only one I can think of is that it would vibrate/rattle to pieces. As far as that goes, obviously the ECU mapping for the race program doesnt require input from the 02 sensor, which makes sense because as they turn up the power in the race mapping program the exhaust gases would be the first to go outside the green window  .
This would then allow you to fit an after market exhaust which means you wouldnt need to worry about leaving the old sensor in the system, but really whats the difference between leaving a connected or unplugged sensor in the exhaust system it would be designed to do it.Check one out Mal I reckon.
TB
(thanks as well Mal, Kieran told everyone all night that you have his picture, made a little mans day)
I hear what you’re saying about not many on the tracks TB and it doesn’t concern me to much. I bought a Sherco remember, how many of them do see. There are three Huskys(2 x 510s and a 310) that we ride with from Bathurst and we seen a 450 on the tracks today. I have the Bathurst guys phone numbers and will give them a ring soon for thier thoughts.
The O2 sensor thing still bothers me as I would be fitting the optional map switch (that the Sherco comes standard with) and then if I want to use the ‘soft’ original setting, would the mapping then require the O2 sensor to be in play? The Sherco just seems to retard the timing for the soft setting.
Thanks for your input TB. We will talk more on it one day over some beers.Tell Kieran the picture is up on the fridge for all to see

Quote:I think I have written or said this before somehere. My only experience with them is down in the Snowys last year, I had a good ride of one and it felt very light and easy to maneuver. But I couldn’t believe the amount of vibration that it sent up through my boots into my legs. incredible! Also, after the trip on the trailer to Thredbo, both these 510’s had leaking fork seals – I think Scott ‘batman’ has had some experience with their forks too.
I reckon the follow up model to the current Husaberg 570 might be a good machine to consider. Ghostrider told me the other day that a bloke that bought a KLX450 just before he bought his, has just traded it in on a 570. He said it steers sooooo much better than his KLX ever did and the power is brilliant.
Anyhow, just a few thoughts
CrashThanks Crash.
I think I did read somewhere about the vibration and I think it might have been on the 07 model. I will look into that one a bit more.
I was chatting to Frank Pons from Biketek on friday about the suspension and he said they have a harsh front end and need revalving. leaking seals doesn’t sound good though.
I was thinking about the berg and will hit Cotchya up for a ride of his now it has a few kms on it. As far as the look of a bike, they don’t do it for me. But as you say the follow up model might be worth a look. I was talking to medogrocket the other day and he said he would wait 12 months to see what the other manufactures come out with.
I’ll keep thinking for now.Congrats to DanD for the new bike. what’s the go with straying from fuel injection Dan? And Kylie congrats on your new fuel injected bike.
Now TB – did you make DanD kick start the 450
a)for a laugh
b)cause all yamaha 450s need to be kick started on a cold morning as the battery is to small
c)on a 40 degree + day when the bike stalls on a hard hill and he forgets about the hot start button and has to kick it like a bastard to get it stated.Dan – get yourself sorted with the bike and come riding with me and murph next weekend. he says we’re not going to the place you guys went last weekend.
Bump
anyone keen?
Yep sounds like a great weekend murph. might even have a few drinks on saturday night to celebrate.
Hey 300jack
i don’t know how many riders murph can handle leading.
But you should be ok to join in.
i think the grades will be about 4 on saturday and 3 on sunday.
Murph will have to pull his finger out and post some details.
Good luck rocket. let us know how you go.
