No licence, no rego, no ride in State forests
    26 Oct 2010
Forests NSW is targeting unlicensed riders and unregistered motorbikes in the Central West following a recent spate of accidents, particularly in Newnes State east of Lithgow.

Forests NSW regional manager, Gavin Jeffries, said Forests NSW was mounting a campaign in the region to ensure that motorbike riders ride responsibly and legally in State forests.

The campaign is part of a broader State-wide initiative where Forests NSW, along with other public land managers including National Parks and Wildlife Service and NSW Land and Property Management Authority, are working with the NSW police to inform motorbike riders, motorbike event organisers and motorbike shops and suppliers of their responsibilities.

As part of the campaign, Forests NSW is sending out information to the various recreational groups and related parties in the Central West and western Sydney detailing the legal requirements of riding a motorbike on public land, which includes State forest.

The letter will be accompanied by a full-colour brochure developed by the Northern NSW Illegal Motorcycle Communication and Education Group clearly stating what is required of riders.

“Motorbike riding on “formed” public roads in State forests is a legitimate recreation activity,” Mr Jeffries said.

“However, motorbike riders must understand that they are required by law to be registered and licensed to ride in a State forest.

“Unlicensed riders and unregistered motorbikes found illegally in a State forest can expect substantial fines and possible court action.

“We are asking riders to take notice of all signs and ride according to the conditions.

“Through a commonsense and lawful approach, a safe and enjoyable forest experience can be achieved for the many users of our wonderful forest resource.”

For further information please contact Forests NSW regional office on (02) 6331 2044.

Yeah yeah heard this all before Dusty. Sending out info packs to shops and riding groups isn’t targeting the correct users or doing anything but wasting the publics money. All the shops and rider groups that thay are informing of ‘their responsibilities’ already are registered and licensed.

Newnes is to far gone to be giving out brochures. What they need to do with the unregistered, no helemet wearing bone heads is hit them where it gonna hurt them. Take a heap of 4WD police vehicles (and a bit arse trailer) and at least 4 police motor bikes (with good riders on them) and go up to the main camping and unloading areas or just cruise around the main roads (the bone heads never stray to far the main roads). When they see these bone heads, take the bike off them and give a huge fine. Then do it for a whole weekend (friday, saturday and sunday) and a few weekends in a row. Then don’t put it the local rag and on telly when they are ‘having a blizt’, just go up there and nail them.

While we’re on this subject. Can anyone tell me if the Forestry or NSW National Parks people have the authority to ask and view your licesne? I have no problems giving the info to the Police as they are the law. The other guys are land managers.

    Rant over….

It was a great weekend even with the numbers down on last year.

All the reports are excellent reading and the photos and videos great to see as you don’t get to enjoy mid pack riding when leading.

Well that’s the Christmas party done and dusted for another year. The weather wasn’t to flash but we made the most of it anyway. :woohoo:

Friday Dude, Whiterocket , Capt Furious and I headed out for an afternoon loop. We did a mix of fire trails and singles with a few challenging bits throw in. When we got back to camp Adam, Sam and Merv had turned up and was setting up camp. Adam and Sam took off for a late arvo ride while we set up our camps. The fire was cranked up for a night of bench racing over a lot of drinks.

Saturday morning a few more turned up. Sb250y, Badbowie, Action, Gary01 and Tom (didn’t get his username). Once we gear up and I asked around to find out what sort of grade riders we had, I decided that we would all go out together and see how the grade 2 riders would go with a grade 3ish ride. After a few singles and fire trail we came to the first hill. A couple of the less experienced guys had a bit of trouble but with a bit help and encouragement they got up. Gary01 was knocked up and only not long been riding and his bikes clutch playing, he felt he was holding everyone up. We convinced him to push on and bypass a couple of tracks until we were hitting the harder singles. Tom decided he would try a Crusty Demons tail whip off an erosion mound. Well not really apparently he got cross up from a puddle before the mound and landed all crossed up and then got high sided pretty hard. He continued on the next couple of tracks and when we got to the start of the harder ones he Gary01, Action and Merv decided to take the fire trail option back to camp. We went on to do a couple of harder singles and then rode down ‘2 steps’ hill and up the other side where the hardcore guys were given the option of attempting the ski run hill. I don’t think anyone got all way the through the hard section. At the top (there is a bypass around the hard section) we headed back to camp for lunch.

When we got back to camp a few more old bulls had arrived and were out riding. They came back about 10mins after we got there. We had some lunch and refuelled. TB turned up on the big Tenere for a chat and then did a few Top Gun style ‘fly buys’ of the camp. Thanks for making the effort to come say hi TB. The grade 2 guys decided they would find some easier tracks to ride on for the arvo and a quick geography lesson about sunny corner and they were right to go. Sam had picked up a front flat and was madly trying to fix it (so he could join the grade 3-4 ride), when an old patch starting leaking as he was refitting the tyre just as we were about to leave. So he and Adam told us to go. I lead the group through some really sweet racks over to the tar road where SB_250y took over the lead as he had a great loop of A4DE and Sunny Corner Rally tracks all linked up. Thanks sb for leading. Sb_250y took us to slate hill, the one that smashed a lot of riders (including me) at the A4DE. The hill was in the same condition as the 4 day, wet and slippery. Whiterocket and Tryhard had a crack at it and made it up after a bit of revving and pushing, well done guys. Sb lead a few more great tracks and then I took the lead again to take us back to camp. I took the guys on one of my favourite fire trails that runs along the edge of the natural forest. It was wet and slippery and a heap of fun. We headed back to camp and the hardcore guys went back out for a bit wet single track riding in the pouring rain. I got the fire cranked up again and we cooked dinner and sat around the fire talking shit again.
Sunday we woke to rain and cold wind. A quick whip around the camp to see if anyone was keen for a ride and there was not a lot of interest. I wasn’t to keen but if someone wanted a ride I would have manned up and gone out. Some guys had to leave early anyway but the rest of us just thought the weather was to crap to ride. So we packed up and cleaned the camp site and went on our way.

Thanks to everyone for turning up for a ride. I hope you enjoyed what riding we did. It was great to meet some of the newer Old Bulls and catch up with the usuals.
I didn’t take photos as my camera is busted and I didn’t see any cameras out with the weather we had. Dude and a few other guys had helmet cameras on so hopefully they got some good footage.

The tool roll supplied by Suttos was won by Gary01 from names drawn out the hat. He deserved to win as he is only just getting into riding and learning his way around the bike so the tools will come in handy. Thanks Suttos for the tool roll and all the support you give the site and members. ;)

When it rains rocket it’s only water falling from the sky so harden up princess. :P

It’ll make climbing the side of a clay hill just that little bit more fun tomorrow arvo.

    Note to all
Make sure your tyres have knobs guys and about 16 psi. Also make sure you know how to change a flat and have the gear to do on the trails. I’ll very surprised if we have no flats for the weekend.

Hey Yammyman. Welcome to the site. How about jumping on the intro thread and telling a bit ya self. See ya on the weekend.

Note – it rained today so bring some sort of cover if you have it. I’ll have a bit wood for a fire and we’ll see if we can find some around the camp. I also have a small 2 burner BBQ for cooking on.
