Why selling it LC?
Must be time for a piston change.
Got in before you TB.
I pre run a bit of the track today to check some hills and work out where TB wants to go. The tracks are very rocky in some parts but it will be great riding.
A couple of the hills we will be riding up or down.
Not sure if we’ll have time to go here. So here a pic or two.
I’d like to learn how a cast piston can cost so much
Can you teach me that TB
Seriously though if anyone does a ‘clinic’ with TB you will learn heaps. He has a knack for teaching.
After Micks birthday bash on the weekend I’m feeling a little better prepared.
I was blue toothed to TB for most of Friday and we had talked about getting my trail pace up a bit. I don’t want to ride on the limit all the time and make heaps of mistakes, just maintain a consistent pace that I can do all day. TB dragged me along talking me through corners and hills and how to use less energy but maintain the same pace. I found the faster I was riding the better the bike felt. I had to say sorry to a few guys as I was overtaking in areas I normally wouldn’t. One of the last tracks of the day was a sandy wide track with large whoops type thingys. I rode as hard I could taking different lines standing up to see how my arms and legs would hold up. At the end I had no arm pump and the legs were burning just a little.
Back at Micks I was on tyre changing duties and while not very fast at it TB and Crash taught me the technique they use and now I have to practice. I changed three tyres Friday arvo and didn’t feel to tired.
Saturdays ride was good to see how my fittness was going. I tried maintain a good pace all day and pushed myself not to take many rests. I made it through the day with a only a few cramps which I rode through. My body wasn’t as sore as I has been in the past after a two day ride so I think my fittness is getting there.
Thanks for the tips on the bars Rocket. I’ll get my Health & Well Being crew member (Donna) on to that.
Bollocks. You don’t have to sacrifice a goat for me. Just give it a scratch under the chin, they like that heaps better than dieing.
Saturday
Rider X boot camp
We left Micks at 6am, grabbed fuel on the way out to the farm stay. Had a good breakfast and met some more old bulls. Rider X gives the briefing and we’re off. Gently through the private property and we’re straight into some sweet tracks and they stayed like that all day. It was a great mix of tight slippery singles to nice flowing open singles and some fire trails thrown in to cool down. After TB had his moment with the stump meets radiator, I was feeling a bit spent. So I took over sweep while Ash went to get the Ute for TB. That was a top effort by Rider X and Ash, within minutes of TBs moment (crash) they had a plan to get him and the bike out. While sweeping along I come through one of the many small creeks and up a slippery incline to meet a huge slide mark and at the end is Bollocks with his bike facing back the other way. I asked him if he was ok and he said something like “yeah mate she’s all good just had a little dirt nap”. Turned the bike around and blasted off.
Ash took over sweep duties when he caught up with the group again and I was blue toothed to Crash so we were riding together and having a laugh calling the track and telling jokes. Crash likes fast hill climbs on the big XR and it seemed to be a race to the top every time. One time we sneak up on Murph and I toot my pathetic horn and it’s on. We came to a hill and I try to get around Murph and he responses with a shower of rocks, but I don’t back down and try harder and get to stick a wheel up one side of him. Then I hear crash on the blue tooth say “I’m coming up the left!!!” and smashes a tree root as he flies past me and that launches him into a deep rut. He drives through the rut and takes Murph at the same time and they both shower the hell out of me with rocks. Then Crash says at the top “did you get Murph”. I said “How the F$#k could I get Murph with all those rocks coming at “. I couldn’t see the track let alone Murph.
The lunch stop was a welcome sight. A fresh chicken salad sandwich and a can of drink was just what we needed. Thanks to Mrs Rider X for the catering, it was awesome food. Water in packs and fuel in bikes and we were off again.
Back into some more magic tracks and we come to the hill that a lot of riders have a few troubles on including me. We watch a heap of riders give it a go and some made first time some didn’t. Crash was the most impressive to watch on the XR with all the nav gear and huge tank. I have a video of his second attempt but the third was the final assault. Crash hit the hill in what seemed like 3rd gear standing up. He made the first section and the second and then the bike coughed and stopped. Crash had forgotten to turn the fuel on after coming down from the last attempt.
Crash checking out what could’ve been had he turned his fuel on.
Crash going for it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz_G3W4lH48At the top the guys cut out a bit of the loop and we headed towards home so I’m told. When we get close to the highway a few of us pull the pin and the rest continue on to some nasty rocky hills Murph tells me. Get back to Micks and we pack up have a shower and off to the farm stay where Mrs Rider X has laid on a feast for the tried riders.
All up a great weekend. I met some more old bulls and haven’t met a bad one yet. Huge thanks to Mick for organising his own birthday ride and all the guys involved in leading, sweeping and putting the tracks together. You guys have some of the best tracks I’ve ridden.
Thursday I was tooling around at home running to a plan to get to TBs by 1pm. TB rings at 10am and says “I’m done get on the road”. I still had a bit to do but managed to get to TBs at 12pm. We loaded around the workers who looked less than impressed that we were going riding and they had to work. Then off to the bottle shop and then Suttos for the weekly donation. Thanks again Mal. TB sort of made the decision to drive all the way so Crash thought it would a be good idea to have a couple of drinks on the way. The road trip banter was great fun, thanks guys.
Crash kicking back.
TB giving Crash ‘The look’
The trailer
We get to Micks and unload and have another beer. We do what’s needed to the bikes and settle in for a few more ales. Riders drop in all through the night and everyone is keen to on the bikes. Friday morning we’re up early and off to Wauchope Country Kitchen for a bacon and egg roll. Then off to Mooses to meet and greet and get riding.
Meet and greet at Mooses
Where we rode I have no idea but Mick and Moose put together some excellent tracks. I was linked (via the Bluetooth) with Mick for a while and then TB which is great for chatting and getting the heads up for track conditions. We stopped to pick up Blue450 who I organised a splash of fuel from. This was a good idea as I hit reserve before the fuel stop. Thanks heaps Blue450. We stopped at a truck depot so TB and Crash could catch up with an old truckn’ buddy. We that’s what I told a few guys anyway.
Ollie took over from the fuel stop and we rode some sweet tracks that seemed to around in circles a bit but that was ok everyone was having a ball. Lunch was at a flashy looking pub and the food was excellent. The tracks after lunch was sand and the deep black stagnant water hole were probably the low point of the ride but sometimes you have go through a bit of yuk to get to good riding. Then we had a quick photo at the beach and off to the road with big whoopy holes. This road was a real joy to ride. I was cruising along with TB getting quicker and quicker when Moose and Kram sneak up on us and then Kram turns it up a notch with TB. Kram and TB ride off into the distance at a frightening pace. Moose sneaks past me and I do my best to stay with him and just get past him towards the end where we pull up puffing like two 80 year old smokers. A nice ferry ride to finish the day and we get back to Micks to service the bikes and swap some tyres over.
The meal at the RSL was great and huge. I ate too much and didn’t feel like drinking lots. But had a few and caught up on the day with the other riders. Bollocks cake was awesome; you are a true chef mate.
Good stuff Ollie.
Nice way to start day with a few good jokes.
Thanks XR and Mick.
It’s all down to me now. No way can I blame the bike for any mishaps after all the preparation involed.
Morning Mick
Morning all
Great, can’t wait TB. 10 min for the first one then 8 then 6 min on the last.
I’m getting keen now. I was a little hesitent a month ago but with the training I’m doing and having the bike nearly set up I’m confident of a good finish.

Ummmmmm… The first fuel stop is at the 100km mark. I am working on a fuel plan for you and TB though.
Anyone who thinks they may need fuel please let me know and I can have some ready for you. I live in Rollands Plains and will be joining the ride on Friday from the corner of Rollands Plains Rd and Reids Rd, which at my guesstimate is probably about 20 or 25 klm’s from Mooses place. This would be an ideal place for a top up of fuel as the house on this corner is a good friend of mine and I will be able to store fuel safely at this location. PM me if I am able to assist you.
Blue450
Excellent thanks Blue450 I’ll send you a pm.
We should be ok Mick. Crash has about 80L on board with his big arse tank. We’ll just take some of his when he’s not looking.

Top stuff Katgirl. Great photo too.
We’ll have to line you up for a grade 3/4 ride soon so you show off your new skills. :woohoo:
I’ve wanted to do that school for a couple of years and never got around to it. Might make the effort this year.
