Thanks Pete
Note to self ” I am not organising a ride . Why are these people following me?”
Looks like Cornerman is the way to go. Like I say I have never riden in an organised ride (not that this is an organised ride) and so never used the cornerman system.
Hope you can make it Pete.
Thanks TB all advice is greatfully accepted.
I will take on board your advice and see what happens.
I am assuming a few experienced folk on the ride will be able to help me along the way as well.
Keep the suggestions coming I am all ears.Fair point Mick about a half ride.
It is doable as long as we do not muck around too much.
Chris has said that he may not ride but meet us halfway with fuel, lunch and an esky if we all decide on the longer run.
I will get GPS route organised as that will mean less stopping and we can regroup less often.
Any one with a GPS send me a PM with youir E-mail address and I will send the GPS route to you.
I was going to use cornerman system but if we have enough people with GPS I will probably get someone to lead and I will sweep that way if anyone is not sure thay can just stop and wait for me. Does that sound right?
Just remember I have never been on an organised ride before let alone organised one.I am hoping by the time we leave my post count will be high enough for me to be able to do it.
I managed to do a pre run of the posted course on Saturday.
I have to admit it took a lot longer than I expected as it was 319Km of which only 45Km was tar and several sections were fairly slow going. Therefore I have come up with a second option apltly named “Soft C%ck Route” whick cuts out 120Km of dirt and repleces it with 46Km of tar making total of 245Km being 91Km Tar and 153Km dirt.
Link to Goggle maps here. http://goo.gl/maps/RKkH4This option would be to go direct to Tyringham from Nymboida cutting out the Old Glen Innes road section.
Option 1 will mean less and shorter stops as well as keeping a pretty good pace to get us back at a reasonable hour.
Option 2 will mean we can take it a bit easier with more frequent stops ( read stops as beer stops ) and no real need to rush.
Intend to leave at 8.00am on Sat morning same as the single track riders and back at about 4.00 or 4.30pm which still gives us some daylight to play with if we have any problems.
The shop at Tyrringham say they will have fuel available for us as well as they are a bottle shop and do sandwiches. So if we go for option 1 this would be our lunch stop at 197Km from start.
Option 2 would put us at Ulong RSL Club for lunch with bistro meals but no fuel. Fuel will be available at Nana Glen 206Km from start. Possibly also at Lowanna 190 from start
Who will have a problem with Fuel because I know I can do either option without needing fuel and still cary 7.5L anyway so would be happy to share.
Now what I need to know from you who will be riding is do you prefer option 1 or 2.
Post up and let me know what you think.
OK all.
Finally got a chence to post up.Sunday four of us started a pre-run of the ADV course. The weather was less than favourable but we decided to have a go anyway.
We started from Darlington park and headed for Glenreagh.A bit of overnight rain meant no dust so it was a dream run through there.
Once we left there we headed up into the clouds and ever deteriorating weather.By the end of Black Mountain road we were all half soaked so a beer at Nymboida was very welcome.
Sitting there having a beer the weather closed in even more to the point we could not even see the mountains that we were heading into.So with 1000m elevation still to climb and a quick look at the radar on the iPhone we decided to take the easy way out and slab it home.
So this week end I will be going for a drive to check out a few sections that may be a bit suspect and to sus out fuel availability.
Early next week I will have more info so stay tuned.
I once had a front oil seal in a diff go loose and the Mech was able to shim it out with a kit he had from a bearing shop.
A machine shop may be able to machine it out to fit a bearing with a larger OD.
That is if you can get a bearing with the same ID and slightly larger OD.
Food for thought.
Scotty wrote:I’m keen for this ride but don’t pencil me in just yet. I will need to attempt some shift shuffling at work before I get to sample the best of the beautiful north coast.I’ll shout the latte’s if I can pull it off.
Latte’s available at Nymboida but I think a beer will taste a lot better.
Not enough to take you away from the singles I bet.
I intend to do a run on 10/11 or 11/11 to check out exact distance and fuel availability, road conditions etc.
There is also talk of my mates missus meeting us somewhere halfway with an esky so fuel could be arranged to be there.
If worst comes to worst I can carry 14 Litres in Rotopax easily.Talking to Nickj last night looks like I have been handed the ADV section to look after.
Chris and I put togeather a track yesterday.
Here is the link to Google maps version of it http://goo.gl/maps/v7yTc
Google will not let you go through one section that is why it takes you so far then back across the centre. We will be doing a full loop of about 312 Km.
Let me know what you think.singletrackmind wrote:Take them up Gentle Annie on the way out MasoSTM
I was thinking more of Bark Hut onto Slaters Crossing then Tee Tree out to Sherwood Road.
Virtually the World Rally section Backwards.
We quite often do Pub With No Beer loop with about 80% dirt nice easy run for a cold beer and a good feed.
Got a mate with a camper trailer that I might look at borrowing if I can.
Couple of bloke I ride with all the time will probably tag along for the ride as well.
I did not realise there was going to be an advenure ride until I got a call from STM this morning.
So looks like my name better go on the list.
Just have to organise accomodation now.
As discussed with STM I am quite happy to help organise / Lead / Sweep as need be.
If there is no set route yet I can come up with a couple of options to see what everyone wants to do.
STM suggested going up through Old Gleninness Road to the top of Gibraltar Range
Another option might be a trip down to Pub with No Beer for lunch.
Just thoughts.
Signed
The wife left a note on the fridge………
“It’s not working!! I can’t take it anymore, I’ve gone to stay at my Moms!”
I opened the fridge, the light came on and the beer was cold………
God knows what she was on about!!
