maybe….. team 300 mal?????

here is the last of the videos, hot off the presses. its the hillclimb, it was ripping fun on the 3 hungee :woohoo: :woohoo:
 right, here we go…..
choppa and i arrived at big river campgrounds, near marysville victoria, around 4.30 sat arvo.
as we were driving past scrutineering, we spotted Tdriver and Straka and his son, Shaun. we pulled over to say gooday and talk some shit. Shaun was calling out to his dad for some assistance, which he does often    so none of us were too worried until we realised what he had done. he was jumping off his XR after trying to start it and caught his knee on the kickstarter. it nearly tore his knee right off. it was nasty, deep and no blood. you could see his bones. (almost a kneecapitation  ) Straka and the wounded Shaun left to go to the hospital. an official who had seen it gave them a stubby holder each i think, feeling sorry for the poor buggers for not getting a start. Straka didnt know if he would be able to make it back either.we bumped into smurf there as well, cruising around on the DRZ, and he told us where he had set up camp already. we ripped our bikes off to get them checked as it was early and there werent many bikes lined up. they only checked my rego and licence, nothing on the bike though. sweet.
we headed to camp and Tdriver followed us over for a few beers.smurf had reserved a great little spot to camp and had all his stuff set up. it was like a gourmet kitchen 😆 😆
Tdriver had a heap of coronas he mustnt have wanted and we polished off those for entree and discussed the problems of the world.
HE was staying in the (not so) local pub and took off after a couple to sleep in luxury….with foxtel
.
the camp….
smurf cooked up a wicked feed.
choppa and i had forgotten to bring plates and shit, i even forgot to bring a cup, luckily chop had a superman cup for me so i was right
it didnt matter anyway, smurf had all the stuff and looked after us like we were his sons
thanks mate, we owe you one.we gathered some wood and finally got a fire going after a few attempts to get the wet timber going. a few douses of woof and then some 2 stroke oil did the job

many a story was shared and as the bottles got emptier the banter increased
choppa smurf and me…the three wise drunken monkeys  :laugh:i think we went to bed about 1.30am. last as usual. we were all talking braille by then  i couldnt believe that choppa slept on the floor of the tent, no mattress, no pillow……what a drunk   god he snores like a freak, i was wondering which breath would be his last! sometimes he stops breathing  maybe he needs to borrow Drews “vibrating blower” machine:laugh:
i woke about 7.30. it was raining a bit which was good. i got up and i was feelin ok. choppa was already up as usual, and had the fire going again… sweet.
i drank about a litre of fruit juice, you might say i was a touch dry.
smurf emerged soon after and proceeded to cook up another storm for breakfast. Tdriver had returned and so had Straka and another fella on a Sherco, cant remember his name, sorry. he couldnt get it t start. we were all saying its a sherco, it should start. then old mate yelled out..”i forgot to turn it on”…i felt embarrassed for him, ive dome it before  :laugh:we staggered around gearing up. smurf was looking a little under the weather, but not from drinking. he was kind of going a greyish green colour and wanting to be sick. he pulled out of riding. we told him we would do the short loop and come back to see how he was. we had been told it was a 40k loop and a 70k loop.
the rest of us went down and parked the bikes at the start line, 8 or 10 rows from the front. i was already pretty nervous and as the bikes poured in behind us i was wondering what i had gotten myself into
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYNZNItffjI
this is a quick vid of the start grid, its like a sea of colours. spooky wicked. :laugh:we went over to the riders briefing only to find out there was one loop with an easy 70k option or a 100k loop that was a little more technical. they handed out a heap of prizes but none of us were lucky, so we headed back to our bikes.
i couldnt believe how many chicks were there. i reckon there were prolly 20 odd. they were all as happy and smiling like the rest of us. i wish sammy had of come, maybe next year
when all the bikes were started and running it looked and smelled and sounded magnificent. what a rush :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:they were letting 10 at a time go, prolly 30 seconds apart. by this stage all the nerves were gone and i wanted to whip it up!!
it seemed like forever till it was our turn…..and then we were off….yee-haaa!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPk3el9SV40
this was the first track, i was impressed.we cut some more tracks…..
this is me chasing Tdriver and Strako…sorry about the mud on the lense
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-M2LAZ9HL8after this there was an easy or hard section. the hard was a wicked downhill single trail, i didnt think it was too hard, more of a challenge. i spose they have to cater for all types on a ride this big though.
the single
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1pid7-mcPsa few more tracks were conquered and then we hit a wicked hillclimb. again it wasnt too hard but was grouse fun. there were a few bikes strewn along the track. i had to stop mid hill for a slower rider but got going again without a hitch. most of the hill was 1st cog, leaping rocks and rutts. awesome :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
there is a video of the hillclimb, its uploading now. it takes bloody hours  i will post it later tonight.
being so exited to ride, i forgot to take my other memory cards in my backpack, im spewin. the ride just got better and better.
the go pro camera worked a treat this time, i think it was a battery issue at paddy swamp last ride. ive just gotta remember to clean the lense more often.there were a few transport sections, which were good to have a rest on… and pull some big driftys
we got to the fork in the road, where you had to choose to do the 70k or 100k. Tdriver was worried he would run out of fuel….(he has a habit of running out of fuel   ) we had a couple of Strakas mates with us by now, josh and another fella who i cant for the life of me remember his name, i will call him the green man for now  nice blokes, and as keen as the rest of us

we all decided to do the 100k as we were all on a high.
from this point the tracks stepped up a notch. they were wicked. there was a great river crossing, about 10m across and as deep as i wanna take the 300 safely  :laugh:we came across a gnarly downhill. easily the hardest part of the day. choppa was the first to kiss terra firma. it looked ballet like
Tdriver was next, going over the bars and the bike landing on him. it was too steep to get off my bike without it running him over, he said he was ok, so all i could do was laugh. Tdriver looked like a rugby player trying to kick out
i can laugh now cause he was ok. hilarious, man i wish i had the camera going….im an idiot!!no more than a minute later and Straka bins it in a puddle right in front of me. his kato just fell over, neither of us know how or why?
it was spectacular though  :laugh:we had to stop and put some fuel into Tdrivers WR450, with him ripping the tube off his camelbak and syphoning some out of Josh’s CRF. with the suck, suck, cough technique. crazy bastard!
the green man had copped a puncture also and Straka whipped out some zooosh stuff and put it in. green man took off and rode to the finish on his own.
i had pretty much hit the wall at 85km mark and was feeling a little fatigued. i had run out of adrenaline   the last few tracks were great too.
we got to the finish and went to check in. it was chockas, so we went to check on smurf and pack up our stuff first. smurf had been crook all day, barking from both ends. “dodgy dips” at lunch on saturday, i believe was the culprit.
(hope youre feeling better “papa”smurf.)
lucky ya didnt come out with us, it could have gotten messy  ….but unfortunate as in i would have loved to see you smiling after completing it
smurf was in a hurry to get his arse out of there (literally), so we said goodbye and packed up and loaded up and
cruised over to check in. it was pretty cool, you got a stubby holder and some stickers in a nice orange KTM bag and a voucher for a burger or hotdogs and a drink at the kiosk. pretty good burger too. i got a tee shirt and its cool too.it was an awesome ride with top old bull blokes and another 500 something others thrown in for good measure.
we held a fair pace throughout, choppas speedo says 45kph average over the 97km loop.i think it was really good of the MCRCV, KTM and all the other sponsors to put on a massive ride, just for choppas birthday, (which was on the sat)….what an awesome birthday ride

it was a really well organised and set out ride. the track signage was great (i have never had the pleasure of it before). top work to all involved….
and a big thanks to the canteen girls
 :laugh:ps- i want to make it the official OBT victorian chapter xmas ride next year, and for years to come. it caters for all and is great fun. and its not too close to xmas. bring on 2010!! :woohoo:

dont spill your schooner

or wet your pants

good luck pooofta

that is a very good way of looking at it mr blue, thanks mate.
i learnded something today.at the stockmans last weekend, i decended a hill.. at speed. i could see it was all clear and smooth ahead as i could see all the way up the next hill. 20 metres from the bottom i saw it…. a spoon drain across the track. i hit it holding on tight with my knees sqeezing the bike, knowing what was coming…
i landed the other side of it, square and flat. the kato bounced alright, but bounce well.
it didnt pogo at all like i was expecting.and we went on our merry way.

i wouldnt know the difference and i dont have the ability to use the suspension to its fullest capabilities.
if i hit a log or a square edged jump, i expect the bike (any bike) to endo and try compensating for it. all bikes do it, maybe PDS bikes do it a little more? mine doesnt seem to but i wouldnt really know.my vor had Ohlins PDS i think?? it was THE best handling bike ive ever ridden. it did what it was told, even if it was the wrong thing to tell it.  and thats all i want out of a bike.
