yeah, i reckon your about right master blue, the yz would be about 105kg. my bike is 103kg dry WITH an electric leg and it has an 11.5L tank, from factory, i believe.

so lets say my 300 is about 114kg tops. its light as a feather to me.
riding up north has shown me its single track capabilities and its great.

down home though, there is a fair bit more open stuff (which i love just as much…or more) and it eats it up……and spits it out too   at whoever is behind me

and yes, it is a heaps different bike than the boondogs DRZ too. to me its the best of both worlds.

i can get 140km from a tank on an easy ride
and 125km going as hard as i dare. (pretty similar really) :P

it is a user friendly bike, with the torque of a small 4 stroke a

but when required, it barks hard, and the scream of a race 2 stroke is just a blip of the clutch away.

it is still on its first spark plug since it got re-jetted…..

and believe it or not, even mr blue said ” pds has changed since 2007ish, its heaps better”. i dont know, as ive never ridden a pre 2007 kato but i will take those words to the grave.

and with my capabilities, if the PDS bites me, its my fault for putting the bike up to the obstacle or whatever, without knowing how to get out of the given situation.

so boony, do what you need to do dude, if it feels better, go with it. as you have said mate, you have plenty of power, so try making the suzi more user friendly. make it lighter, play with your bar heights, get some pivot pegs, hell if you want, get an even softer seat :P (if possible)

or go get a newer (louder) pipe. it will make a mental difference to you, your bike and your riding style. find a sound you like and enjoy the note ;)

personally, i like to hear the sound of my tyres gripping the dirt when braking and the ding-ding-scream of the expansion chamber when hitting the gas.

as much as it hurts to say….”i couldnt ride a drz to its full capability”….or any bike for that matter.

we do it for fun, remember….. :)

PS……ive read this whole thread and i cant see any man love, only brotherly love and expressions of feelings for the passion of riding…whats wrong with that……

are people looking that deeply into it???

    anyway, part 2…..

“The Coffs Harbour Tunnels” tuesday 29th sept.

i went over to STM’s place in the morning, totally hanging to ride. introduced myself and met the family. top people. after scotts wife ribbed him about his neck wound   , we went out and kitted up. it was already hot and it was still early.

…….i dont know how you northern folk deal with it  . even your winters are hot. at least in melbourne when its hot, it doesnt last too long

anyway, we were ready to go, scott had some initial dramas starting bike as he had had the tank off. but once his bike was going it purred all day. he busted his start button last ride and was on the kicker today, poor bugger :P

we headed off on pretty much the same route as the OBT crew went last time. along the track next to the highway, then under it! that was wierd enough in its self
as soon as we came out from under the bridge we were in what i call…..jungle ;)

we took off along some wicked trails. STM, being the gentleman that he is let me lead most of the way so i wouldnt get dusted.
what a bloody top bloke, to let me ride his secret trails in front. as scott said, “it will make a good ride into a wicked ride”. he was damn right :)
we rode some awesome tracks, mostly single, it was like riding through a tunnel half the time and when we dropped into any of the many valleys we rode into, it was about 5 degrees cooler and the terrain was a little moist. traction was still really good even in the dry parts. i did have a spanking new S12 on for the occasion though.

heres one of the many little creek crossings we did, some with water some without.

scott having a breather when we stopped to nip up his chain
    IMG_1624.jpg
    his bike looks camoflaged here.

one of the many wicked trails…. ;) (this is now my screensaver)
    IMG_1623.jpg

we rode for ages, with a few little transport sections thrown in. they were good to cool down a bit, i was boiling hot. i drank my camelback dry and still got a headache :( we even rode over some meadow land and i was really laying it over in the grass. having a bloody ball.

we were running a good pace. i think the average speed was about 35kmh from memory, it was nice and flowing with some challenging sections thrown in. we rode some extra trails because we were ahead of schedule and then went out the coast….

getting out onto the beach, i was hanging to roost. the first time i ever wet to coffs, about 11 years ago, i swore i would one day come back to ride the beaches. it was like a dream come true

we cruised down the beach for a bit till we passed some people near the caravan park. scott had to almost stop to avoid hitting a little girl. she mustnt have heared him with the surf crashing next to her. after we got passed them a bit, we opened up and took off. i didnt think we were goin that fast till later when scott told me his bike topped out at 100ish and i wizzed past him. there was lots off undulations along the beach from the high surf there lately. like little rolling hills  some were about a metre high. i couldnt help myself and nailed across them, leaving some pretty long gaps between tracks where i had launched. man it was fun….. so much fun that i just kept going, as i missed the turn off and rode another 500m or so   sweet, i got to ride back the other way. :woohoo: :woohoo:

skipping over the ocean, like a stone………..

we rode straight off the beach, up the street and to the pub. sweet. we spilt the first beer down our throats.
my mum and dad and sammy rolled up and we had another drink before lunch and chatted. the special was chicken rissoles and chips and vege…..and a free beer…..bonus   and only 10 bucks!!!!
lunch took its time coming and scott had to leave to look after his little fella.
i couldnt stop smiling as the rest of us ate lunch. we had scotts lunch packed in a doggy bag, :) i thought about eating it but i was stuffed already

i rode back to scotts and dad dropped sammy off with her lunch delivery!!
i got changed and we wandered in for a drink. STM does make a bloody good homebrew…..sensational even!!! his son, jessie was cracking us up, hes a little dude    (boing boing)
we had a couple of schooners of scotts liquid gold and bench raced a bit before heading home a dehydrated and exhausted, but very, very happy menace.

we were invited to dinner that night, which i unfortunately had to decline as my dad had already planned something. i was spewin, i was hoping to drink some more with the big hippo, but i needed the brownie points and towed the line. considering the amount of time i was riding for the week, it was only fair i spose ;)

i can honestly say, that it was the best place i have ever ridden. it would be even better if it wasnt so dry. the rain i ordered was obviously on back order and didnt turn up till sunday.

STM, you big hippo, you are a true legend of a bloke.

we will be back next year….im counting the days buddy ;)

    end of part 2…..

    TBC.
