yep. what time Boss

in reply to: Re:Raiding Mexico #192339

i was finally sick of riding, skiing, drinking and mulling over this “Uba F**king Ride”, as it is turning out to be, :woohoo: while i was away for the last week   so we went 4wding last tuesday for a bit of a reccy  and to answer a few of my own questions.

basically we went up through Dargo, all the way to Mt Hotham, then across Dinner plain, down through Swift Creek and Tambo crossing via the great Alpine Way (or “the Chute” as TB calls it…for good reason too  ) to the coast near Bairnsdale and back to Heyfield.
if you are a northerner reading this, open google maps and plot those places if youre bored  then it might make more sense ;)

or if you are a lazy northerner, basically we headed north to the top of the great divide, hung a right for a while then headed south again down to the ocean. like riding a massive quarterpipe dude

it was a good 10hrs to do 450km. checking maps and playing ‘Spotto’ when we would see tracks.  even had the old Prado in low4 a few times…and as soon as that happens Sammy shits herself     she has no sense of humour
first ploblem up there is seasonal road closures, next is the seriousness of the terrain. ive never seen tracks so steep. we had no recovery gear so we walked a few that the map called “steep” and couldnt believe how anything could drive up or down them, let alone build them in the first place. :S thirdly, most tracks lead to nowhere. i guess when they were making them they realised their insanity and stopped, or set up camp to try to find some gold…. hard old bastards they must have been back in the day.

anyway as we mosied along we saw heaps of tracks that looked wicked and rideable….but are closed during winter  so that buggers the Dargo idea altogether. :(

oh well, we had fun trying

looking north to Kosciosko. i couldnt believe we could see it. it doesnt look tall, i guess due to curvature of the earth…or something

    anyway,

ive sussed out places like Woods Point, Bright and Jamieson aswell and whilst they can handle the numbers there and i’d love to take yous there (as they are such awesome places), im hesitant to take so many people, of such different skill levels, out into those areas when i dont know the tracks. i’d be worried about taking anyone there actually. a level 2 track can turn to a level 5 track in an instant!
and if its snowing up there a 1 hour ride will take too long   trust me :)
honestly, its not for the faint hearted in winter.

its looking more and more like we will be basing somewhere around Rawson or Heyfield.
it all depends on available accommodation as we are looking to be up in the vicinity of 50+ riders, including members of other clubs like HDR and AMTRA and a few of my mates aswell.

i reckon i’ll cap it at 60   :silly: :side:

Choppa has said (while drunk  ) that he will lead the main ride but i think we will need to split into 2 groups, meeting for lunch and fuel and swap loops for the arvo
we both know the area well and are confidant that everyone can do it.
some of the viccos have ridden around there and loved it.
you Tamworthians get ready to crash up and down our own “parachute hills” all day.
this route is around the lower end of the high country. we will still hit snow as we will climb to the top of Mt Useful at 1434m above sea level but will generally stay below the snow line for rider comfort and to ward off frostbite as there will also be some 20 odd creeks and rivers to cross. ;)
wet boots in snow is a no-no!

there will also be a single track poker run over the weekend too that i mapped out last week.

im looking at catering for lunch and dinner as i dont wanna cook for you all.

once its all sorted (start of feb) ill post up a new ride thread.
everyone that has expressed interest will be added to the new list.

im nervous just thinking about all you crazy lot coming down :woohoo:

    bring it on i say,

i’ll show yous how to party ;)

in reply to: Re:Raiding Mexico #192336

thats what it will be boony. ;)

just logistifying it all as to which part of the bush we will roost.

it all depends on the amount of snow we get.

if there is heaps, we will stay northside of the ranges. somewhere like Bright.
i cant see even Pep driving a bus over Mt Hotham with snow chains   would be impossible

woods point might be a goer too….

i dunno

On another note, and maybe our resident Mexicans can give more info an this but I hear there is a push in Vic to have their rec rego scheme limited to compliance plated bikes only, no MX or pitbikes. For MX bikes that already have rec rego the rego will not be tranferrable to the new owner if sold. Anyone South of the border who can confirm this.

im not so sure of that Scotty.
i did hear on the news over xmas that the laws have changed down here regarding ‘Primary Producer’ rego (which is for farmers, so they can ride bikes, quads, tractors, etc, within 25km of their own property)
that they will no longer have to have ADR compliance on their machines.

whether or not this is part of Vicroads changing Rec Regos, i dont know.
i will suss it out though.

to be honest, i’d like to see ADR compliant Rec Rego down here. it might rid us of chinese shitbikes

it will stir up the applecart if it happens

i prefer natural lanolin, but will use any oil/petrolium based ointment that wont dry up or soak in.

ive seen a bloke use margerine before

fungal infection creams like canesten work well, but i dont like using a medication when i dont need medicating

if i was doing multiple days riding id go the canesten ;)

c’mon Mal, you should have slapped the Captain with a leather driving glove, called him a swine and then challenged him to a duel at sunrise
