what a wicked weekend! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

firstly just for the record, my back is probably the least sorest part of me, the rest of my body is a joke. i feel like ive just gone 12 rounds with Tyson….except i still have both ears attached

    saturday morning…

the Bulls arrived, introductions were made, (thanks Aido), Sammys magic lolly bags were handed out, coffees were gulped, bikes were warmed and we were off by 9am.

so, over the road we go, into the singles. it was weird being behind everyone, watching them hit the first track and blast off up the straight

i tentatively crossed the road, onto the first track and with the first twist of the throttle……bang!!!

it was like my brain rebooted to bike mode. in a blink it all flooded back. i was up on the pegs and skipping the woops like id never stopped riding. every crack of band widened my eyes…..and my grin
by 4th band i was actually screaming inside my helmet. (i love 4th band, its when the trees start to blurr) ;)

but then my butt puckered

as i backed off at the last second for the first corner (as you do  ) and went to hit the skids…
it suddenly hit me that i had new front and rear pads, this was their first go at bedding
and i had to pull up for a 90 degree corner
    and quickly!!! :pinch:

i had better take a second to thank TB here, i remember hearing him say once whilst in his drunken stupor to scrub the new pads on concrete to aid the bedding and remove the initial film off them. i did this and they pulled up great first go…thank God (ie; Kato).
i stuffed the corner right up still and gumbyed my way around it. it was ugly but i survived….
it reset my ability versus ambition meter at the same time too
i had to muscle the bike around the corner through deep sand. thats what i thought was going to hurt my back but it was ok. i only really feel pain if i turn my head fully with all my gear on. i think following what the physio says and doing all his excesises has helped me a lot. i wonder if i can get a disabled parking sticker for my bike???

……the lake was way up after the rain weve had in the hills lately. we had to divert a bit to get around. its only about 1 metre off being full.

    i knew i wouldnt….but i had fun trying :P
it gave me the speed fix i needed,
man have i missed it. 👿

choppa set a good pace all day leading and only managed to get us lost twice
he reckons he is map dyslexic
both times i knew we’d gone off course straight away, not because id been there before but because i have been staring at the friggin map of this route for weeks in anticipation!!!!.
so anyway…. i just HAD TO dice through the pack to try and catch him ;)  all caution to the wind like ;) :woohoo:

anyway, when he wasnt as lost as a toddler in Target, Chop was riding like a madman and go-go-go. just pointing corners out to the next rider like an evil school teacher and roosting off. i suspect he was loving it
i reckon i went for over an hour without a smoke.
we all ended up stopping and having a rest and sending ranga off to fetch him like a crazed jack russell.
id told him to stop at the next river when i gave him the map, he thought i said THE river, the one we were aiming the ride at    it doesnt matter, it was all part of the adventure and we got to see some hot chicks becuase of his first detour :)

we didnt hit any snow unfortunately. i did see some on top of Mt BawBaw through the trees. i tried to point it out to XY but he was too busy riding with his tongue hanging out in total concentration.

it was the first time i have ever swept for a whole ride. i had a ball though, getting roosted by whoever was in front of me
i even copped a rock on the end of the old fella and just tried to laughed it off :S i was just sooo happy to be back on the pegs. i even let out a few woohoo’s

there really is nothing in life i like better than riding in the bush ;)
take that how ever you will

….after talking it up that we will hit snow, i felt a little guilty after i overtook Aido and monoed a 10 foot puddle, drowning him, right down to his short and curlies, literally……and only 1/2 hour into the ride.
“it nearly knocked me off the bike” he said    a pearla!

we got to “junction hut” and crossed the Aberfeldy river. it was a good 20 metre crossing and up to 500ish deep. we stopped for a smoke and this dude on a quad came down the track and crossed the river. my god, the roost was intense! sometimes you couldnt see quad or rider for water  i asked him if he was wearing a wetsuit.
we recrossed the river and crossed and recrossed Donnelly river trying to find our way out.
Donnellys creek track was all id heared it would be, absolutely beautiful!
it was so nice i just wanted to cruise along and admire it. so i did.

we stopped at another hut called Goonans, to fix Drews front puncture. bloody MX retreads i said
it became quickly obvious that the tyre changing lessons from Mal5.1 at the Kenda had fallen on deaf ears    with a team effort we got it sorted and took off again ;) i waited at the river crossing and watched everyone get through as ranga got the big CR to fire.
    then i hear…
    F**K!!!
and i turn around to see bill getting up out of the river. i cracked up and i could hear him cursing. he was soaked. it woke him up and must have been very refreshing   as it runs straight off the snow peaks

there were a couple of shorter escape routes i had marked on the map called strangely enough…Flat track and Steep track. passing the entrance i saw Flat track starting at about a 45 degree incline and getting meaner by the metre. i started wondering what Steep track was gonna be like!!
    guess what!!
you could nearly bloody abseil down it
it had to be 50 degrees plus and like a staircase of rock. thank god we didnt need to use either of them!

we finally hit Cheynes Bridge track, the last 5 kms before lunch. it drops about 1000m in about 3km and has some of the best jumps on it. i was feeling pretty invincible by now  and was getting some major hangtime :woohoo: on the way down.

Sammy was awaiting us at the river with lashings of choice foods.
roast beef, gravy, slaw, cheese, meat platters and drinks. she has outdone herself again  . we were starving and devoured it all in a flash. :)

we refuelled and got ready. we were all rooted and decided to take an easier, more direct route home. as i got on my bike i looked down and my heart nearly thumped a hole through my chest    and i froze…..

    this is what i saw….

    tripleclamp.jpg
    tripleclamp1.jpg
    tripleclamp2.jpg

    Holy Shit!
how long had it been loose?
i was having flashes of the jumps coming down to lunch and i started to feel a little :X
i had been standing up most of the day coz i was sweeping…and my arse was hurting, and didnt see it. i dont know how.

i dont know how i didnt do them up enough in the first place? its my fault, i put the forks on and tightened them up….then realized id left the fork protectors off and took the forks back off…then probably had 3 beers and put them back on

    man, what if???

it coulda been really ugly, it could have snapped, spun around and pole vaulted me like a HR holden with a broken front uni joint
that would have forked me up

i shoulda known as soon as i was feeling invincible that something was about to go terribly wrong

it seriously freaked me out. i told some of the boys im out and they took off into the bush. i couldnt even swap 1 bolt from the other side in the bottom as the clamp is bent and spread. i followed sammy home on the tar, poohing myself all the way…
we had a trailer, but i forgot to grab some emergency tiedowns

    we limped home ok eventually.

i had a burning hot shower and felt heaps better, munched some panadeine and just finished my first beer when the boys got back….all smiles :)
with talk of racing the last leg across the lake sand and through the singles. spewin i missed that….one of the boys will elaborate on that im sure

except drew and ranga, who were still in the bush fixing drews puncture…well i think drew was fixing the puncture and ranga was doing a few tracks around him

we had a beer of two, woofed into some JACKS LINKS BEEF JERKY and talked shit for a while. everyone was telling stories of roosing and getting roosted, remennissing some of the days puckering moments
it was getting on and everyone had to get home. the boys had said goodbyes and were just leaving when XY and ranga got back just shy of dark.

we had a feed and watched a bit of telly…
i was nodding off at 7pm but battled it till 9…then gave up

i slept till 8am, thats the longest ive slept since hurting my back. i woke up and expected the worst but felt good. bones are good, muscles are gone

im not looking forward to going to physio tomorrow, i will be sorer by then and he will hammer me when i tell him i went riding

i didnt take any pics and i didnt get much footage as i was just too excited to think of it

i did get a bit of me and bill and johnny dicing the tracks and some of Donnellys creek. ill post em up tomorrow.

thanks to everyone for coming. you are all welcome anytime.
thanks to chop for leading and sammy for our delightful lunch.

lets do it again soon!!!! :woohoo:

    this’ll get you exited Drew…

    if you look at this..

    http://www.land.vic.gov.au/CA256F310024B628/0/D3B8510DA7DB900CCA2576190029B5DC/$File/FS0105+-+Cheynes+Bridge+Trail+Bike+Visitor+Area.pdf

on the first map, which is the west side of Cheynes Bridge, we will be entering from the bottom right corner, (chesterfield tk).

we will have already whipped through some single track, crossed the lake bed, done a bit of bitumen and taken a leasurely ride through some cow ridden paddocks to get to this point…now the fun starts

heading north along forest edge tk, a quick right left onto black range link 1, west to porters ck link then porters tk, up to bark hut tk, west across to fultons tk, north up army tk, williamsons spur tk, then east across to spring creek tk, glenmaggie creek track, a right onto black range road and left into cheynes bridge track, which goes down, down, down and down some more to the river at ‘Reids flat”.

by this stage we will be famished. sammy will be waiting with a fire going and a feast of food for us to devour

then we hit the next map, east of the river…

north up the road to hickey creek tk, jumping mt margaret track and continuing till we turn right into dolodrook tk and folow it to “smoking point”. then north up the avon tk, right into lower block tk, following it south through some 8 creeks and rivers to huggetts crossing, then across to bulldog junction and home….

then its beer time
