VTB how many klms are you planning on or are you just going to make it up as we go along ?

    well……

    depending on..

final numbers, start time, rider capabilities, snow falls, river levels, sausage availabilities, bogong moth migrations, fuel limitations, my hangover, your nerves and how many of Daves 40 minute stories we are subjected to…

im gonna try for 150km.

if we do all of the last ride that we did up there….

it depends really on the weather. i wanna take yous down the ‘hill of death’, along the ‘river of doom track’ (that has already claimed 2 mortals), through ‘submarine crossing’, over the ‘yellow brick hill’ and along ‘hipbone road’ into the heratige listed town of walhalla for a wicked parma and a beer or 2.
on the way home we will cross the widest river you ever have crossed and stop in at an old quarry with some sick jumps and heaps of singles.

its gotta be pretty dry to do that though, i dont want anymore meltdowns

so in a nutshell, i have no idea yet mate

It all sounded like dirtbike heaven until i read those words”well kind of… in vicco, you cant ride single track legally at all (and its policed the most!), even with full rego, as technically you must only be on a “gazetted road” ” It must be hell!!!! That is the ony thing that gets me through the week!

if youre out bush Azza it doesnt realllly matter where you ride as long as you are licenced and rec regoed you will be right. you can ride up to any rural pub for a feed as long as you dont be a dick with out worry, but its really policed hard at all the places closer to the city though.
last time i rode, me, Aido and Choppa and the boys watched this 40+ year old bloke riding a chinese 4 wheeler with his 4yo on his lap ride straight into 2 coppers in the carpark….. like, how stupid must this bloke have been.

i have been stopped by coppers up in a massive expanse of the high country called the ‘Avon Wilderness’. its not a state forest or national park, its the f**king wilderness…literally   they were so happy to see us and they talked our ears off for an hour. we were 60+ km away from anything remotely human and the first people they had seen in 2 days

you just never know hey

I looked into it as well Tb and my conclusion is
    make rec rego
    working headlight tailight
in vic, you must also have a working number plate light and brakelight, that works independantly with either brakes in case one fails, a RHS mirror, a horn, a chainguard and an exhaust thats under 94 dBA……you must have lights that are made for a motorcycle (no strapped on torches) and the elecrical system must be self charging…(not a lone battery)…you can have a magneto run system only with no battery.(like the ballards LED enduro lights.

Bike to be inspected each yr
not here, inspected once at start of rec rego, thats it!!!, not even inspected again upon transfer of vehicle to a new owner as there is no RWC required.
    Fully licenced riders only
it used to be that L and P platers in vic could only ride a bike up to 260cc, now its changed to fit in with, or immitate the NSW laws with bigger heavier bikes allowed to be ridden. im pretty sure an L plater can ride something like a Belgarda or Tenere or the likes now…….and that is wrong!!!!!!
not a nominal charge but a percentage of full road charge say 50%
its about $120-150 initially, then around $50ish every year down here and if it lapses for 3 months it must be inspected again and re-registered from scratch. (personally, when i was young, i have got through their inspections with brake switch wires tucked under plastics, a ‘honk-honk’ rubber bulb type bicycle horn, and a cardboard chainguard painted silver….and passed    they asked me to start the bike to see the lights and i said “sorry, i cant, im wearing thongs….you start it if you want mate!” …..No, its OK, we believe you buddy ;) tooo easy.
thats going pretty extreme to ride legally, although illegally…wouldnt you say?
    I too was once a young dickhead…but i was a passionate young dickhead :P

    my grandpa once told me
“any gent thats worth his penny sees how the rules are meant to be bent…..”
    ;)

these above measures should keep the “craqckheads” away, they won’t bother on their pitties and old Mxers, too much hassle and expense. Only the legit and genuine will bother.correct. ive ridden down here since before rec rego was around. there are no more wankers in the bush riding their MXers around now than there were before…..if you take into account the rise in populus for the sport. pit bikes will be the end of our sport as TB puts it…..purely because they are bloody cheap and any crackhead can buy one new for as little as 2 dole payments.

Mrs Cee didn’t raise no fools, think of the ripples and counter ripples always.well…. they are all colourblind and cant seem to see the orange light

But also why discard the idea or the opportunity for genuine users who prefer to use converted MX bikes (like myself) over the softer and homogenised enduro offerings, because of the potential actions of a few loserstrue bruce… i have a lot of mates who ride CR500s, RM250s etc with me in the bush….and why not? it seems simple…if you have the passion and really like YOUR bike, you will convert it to rec rego….. crackheads really couldnt be bothered. it isnt a walk in walk out and “oh f**k it, lets go rip up the bush up on our fully sick MXers” deal with rec rego, it IS a pain in the arse to get initially, like any rego… and the typical crackhead wont be able to pay the renewal anyway

Firstly Bruce I have never thought Mrs Cee raised a fool or do now.but may have married a happy one

What happens when a rec rego bike is involoved in an accident with say, another bike, a bush walker a 4×4 who pays and how then??
in vic, part of your rego, be it recreational or full vehicle means you are covered by the TAC (traffic accident compensation insurance). this covers your injuries, time off work and any third party person/property (including 4WDers, bushwalkers or other bikes, whether they are registered or not.

So reco rego only in state forests ok,
well kind of… in vicco, you cant ride single track legally at all (and its policed the most!), even with full rego, as technically you must only be on a “gazetted road”
you must only ride on a gazetted road but you cant ride a “gazetted road in a built up area” with rec rego,
so its made for just forest tracks and firetrails…… in a nutshell, stay off the blacktop and in the bush. there are deliberately “grey” laws in there to basically leave it “up to the officers discretion” as to whether you are a knob or not.
if you need to travel into a town for fuel or food then do so quietly and respectfully and you will be ok with the coppers generally. Believe me TB, there are unwritten laws of respect for legitimate riders down here. if you have rec reg and a licence and arent a dickhead or a smartarse and have local knowledge of where you have just ridden to the coppers and are busted in town (rural town that is…local riding area town type..)
    there will be no problem……

I reckon bike coppers are bike coppers for a reason, coz they love riding and share our ‘passion’. you start talking to them about THEIR bikes and how good the loam is over the next ridge and most of the police will want to ride over there with you. they love it too.

    from the VicRoads website…

    Conditions..
There are a number of conditions applying to operating a recreation vehicle. They are:
Recreation motorcycles are only permitted to be operated on roads (except declared freeways and arterial roads, including roads formerly designated as forest roads, under the Road Management Act 2004) that are:

located outside “built up areas” as defined by speed zones of less than 100 km/h, or

those areas that are not a road and are solely for the training and assessment of a holder of a motorcycle learner permit by an organisation approved by VicRoads for that purpose
the vehicle must not carry any load or a person other than the rider
the rider must wear a protective helmet of the type approved under the Road Rules Victoria

what happens when they are ridden to death and get closed faster because of over use?i honestly dont reckon this will happen because of rec rego and im speaking from experience mate ;) .
it will happen because of populus and the ever cheapening price of bikes. i also believe those f**ken (imitation honda :P ) chinese pitbikes are driving the price of second hand bikes down as its too easy to buy a brand new shitheap 250cc 4 banger with shiny stickers from Kim Jong Ill for the same measly price as 6 bags of non thoroughbred manure

So a buddying up and coming MX rider with can purchase a LED lighting kit for my MX bike around $200. (kit can be used on next years bike as well its a one of cost) Then rec rego $50 (its $50 in Vic I think Menace said) and off me and the mates go, ripping and tearing around and around the tracks we make free practice every day, if it that easy we would be in trouble!no track hire no entry fees (good value this rec rego) we can even make our own MX tracks (tell me you haven’t seen tracks made in forests already?)
    Problem???

Don’t worry about those farms close by (MX bikes dont have good fuel range so our tracks need to be close to our blinged 22inch hi-aces   you will get those wankers everywhere mate, rec rego or not….. i cant honestly say in all my years that ive really noticed any more knobs than before rec rego was here.

Bingo, areas get over ridden, state forests are getting pissed soil erosion etc and another area gone. yep, and we are getting hounded hardcore about it. the fines from the DSE (our govt. forrestry commision) are wayyyyy higher than any police fines. riding single track (or anything they define as not-gazzetted) will cost you a four figure sum!!!!!
They will flock over the border to you Bruce, they already do but it will be 50 times worse because its cheap to setup, cheap to do and its unlimited and they will think the ride areas will be unlimited, and they wont care. i disagree, they generally wont be bothered. if they are already breaking the law and getting away with it, why would they get rec rego, its just another expense to take out of their Meth budget
Lets not forget the publicity around the extra helicopters for the injured riders and the unrego’ed guys that take there MX bikes out to ride / practice with their mate that have rec rego and tracks to ride. Dont reckon that wont make the papers. An then there will be the people that will sue state forests because of itunfortunately, wankers will always make us look bad!. you cant sue the forestry here, you had may as well try sueing the RTA up there for the damage you suffered from hitting a stop sign after some 120 year old granny pulled out in front of you……you know she shouldnt be driving but you cant sue the RTA for NOT taking her license off her! you would have more luck copping a bill for the damaged stop sign!!

in my opinion, even as little as 10 years ago the news coverage of such unfortunate events with motorcyclists was minimal because the Internerd and I.T. in general were still very much learning the ropes.
now news is different it gets into every nook and cranny.
remember 10-15 years ago…..who had even heared of “the national road toll”??? about as many people that had heared the name ‘Gas Gas’ and didnt think it was another name for a cheeky Rectal Zephyr

its the way of the world and hey….thats life.

Sorry for arguing the point Bruce, I know there will be genuine people that it would work for but its like saying you are a good driver with a good car and can there for travel at 140kph on the freeway if you get what I am saying. The world works around majorities as wrong as it is, this time I think we need majority rego not rec to save us from ourselves. i dissagree again mate. it wont be as bad as you think. i had the same thoughts about rec rego when it came in down here years ago. but i was humbled. Costs etc of those regos well who really knows what they are when all the emotion is removed from it if i was you lot, i would be fightin for some kind of accident insurance like we have down here with our rego, not keeping other budding riders from having a crack. they wont all be bad. Hell, my first bike was unregistered for the first year i had it but as soon as i knew it was ‘the sport for me’ i forked out the cash and made the proper mods and got rec rego…..
the ONLY reason i have full rego now is for riding north of the border with you blokes. I pay $550+ more a year than i would for rec rego, so i can ride anywhere and i dont give a shit. its my life and ultimate hobby :)

the poor, young knobs will always come and go, its a pity they undermine our unwritten laws we all have as passionate trail riders.

i dont think rec rego will be as bad for you northerners as you think.

you need the passion to keep doing what we do……

the wankers will get caught again anad again and wont pay their fines and will do a little time and end up the victim of a re-sleeving courtesy of the ‘top dog’ of the prison
or bust themselves up riding in a flanny and workboots (Bob  :P ) or knock up their cousin and have to sell their bike to buy a pacifier

and its all over for them.

    Cheers

    TB

roll with it TB, it wont be as bad as you think….

come for another holiday down here.

tell Cummins its a 4 stroke torque curve research trip and ill take you to the most ridden places in Vic. they arent ridden out and rooted by bikes, its 4WDs that root it.

i agree with Mick as to the permit for forests…top idea. i would have no problem paying.

truely TB, if we sat in the carpark at Neerim Sth for an hour or two, (my local roost and everyone else’s too, south of the city that is)…..

it is a fully sanctioned, forrestry riding area, with designated ‘bike unloading area car parks, a drop toilet, sheltered change area, special tree stumps especially made to be bike stands.. and a map with 2 signed routes for beginners and advanced dudes and all. 99% of bikes that ride into or out of there will be registered (and probably 90% of those would be rec regoed) and over 90% will be licensed.

we roll with the dice mate, or fall with the domino’s ;)

i can probably fit your research trip in sometime around march pal,

work commitments, court cases, common law suites, whisky and offspring  (gulp) pending…..of course ;)

do you blokes want some cheese with your whine????

    what sux is….

down here its about $550-ish for full rego, road or dirt…. no difference. size, no difference.
that covers you for TAC (traffic accident compensation) insurance (which for me has been a lifesaver in the past)

BUT not any vehicle insurance, not even third party.

third party-fire and theft is about $600-$800 per year for a rating 1 driver/rider….let alone fully comp insurance…..its more than a Gorilla!!!

its about $50 for rec rego…..and its fantastic for dirt riders

but, i cant ride north of the border with rec rego as your northern bloody RTA neanderthals cant get with the system

rec rego isnt recognised outside of victoria.

and that sux coz i like riding up there :(
