and I think you will find that Moose has comandeered the KTM250 for the weekend too.
July 16, 2011 at 11:04 am in reply to: Sweep Riders needed. State Sprints, Mt Seaview. JULY 23-24 #204948Well, if you like single trails, that have rocky sections, logs at stupid angles, snotty gullies, endless hill climbs and perilous down hills you are in luck, if you are one of the “ elite athletes” on the OBT sweep team. It definitely is a State level competition track.
If we don’t get to much rain over the next week it is going to be great.
There are a few loops, a Junior Cross country, a senior cross country and the sprint loops, they all start off with a bunted grass track before the head into the bush and up into the hills.
Once you hit the bush on the senior loop the trail winds it way up into the hills through some tight single that will definatly test most riders. We got right up to a place called Echo Point which I am guessing to be 500 meters higher than the start point, when Connor and Alex both had a bit of short leg syndrome on their 250s and we had to stop on the greasy hill to help them.
I found a place to park the XR while I lended a hand and rode the YZ to the top for Connor, I then walked down the hill to get the XR, that is when I realized it had fallen over and down an embankment landing upside down. Bastard!! I managed to get it upright and started but I couldn’t get traction to get it out no matter how much revving and snorting went on. Connor eventually came down to help me and we pushed it out of the gully. That is how I ended up boiling it.
Once I got the XR to the top, the rest of the crew spent the next 10 minutes laughing at the steam coming off my head.
Having fun Mick??? Not at this stage.
To give you an idea how big the hill is, look at the next pic and you will notice a clearing way down below. That is where the race will start.
I will admit I was happy when the trail started to go back “down” the hill. The down hill section has it’s challenges as well as Moose found out when he threw old Burple away not once but twice. The second time giving old Burple’s Head light and gauges a whole lota love.
There is one steep rocky section that had me puckering when I rode part of it with the back wheel of the XR way in the air as she threatened to go over end over end on me. It was witnessed by Moose and Protty and I am still trying to convince them that it was my riding skills that saved me from a nasty face plant, they are adamant that it was all arse and bugger all class that got me to the bottom safely. Here are a few pics from the trails that I have already posted earlier in the thread.
See that the trails aren’t cut in as such yet and that grass combined with the slope made for some treacherous conditions.
To be honest I was glad to see the bottom of the hill as wrestling the XR through all that, tight single trail had me rooted!! That is why I have decided the YZ is my bike of choice next weekend.
There is also a MX track on the property that the young fellas were busting to ride so Moose and I sensibly sat back and rest while watching the boys cut sick on the jumps.
Connor Seems to have come to terms with the YZ

The boys even had enough energy to do some deliberate “Goon Riding” That had Moose and I in stitches.

It is the perfect place to hold a bike event, here are some random pics I took.
See all the garbage bins, the organisers are expecting a fair few KTM’s at the event.
After the boys hit the track for a while we headed back to the camp ground for some lunch.
See the double story building?? That is the palatial OBT sweep head quarters and bunkhouse.
Here is the interior, pick out a bed everyone.
Up stairs
Down stairs
We have already allocated a bed for Kram. Down there on the left somewhere.
The rustic Camp kitchen
Hopefully, this report will give you an idea of what is in stall for you next weekend!! I personally cant wait, it will be great, so long as the weather Gods are kind.

July 15, 2011 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Sweep Riders needed. State Sprints, Mt Seaview. JULY 23-24 #204938They had 2mm of rain last night and a light misty shower today that made things a bit greasy for a little while. The conditions were near on perfect. Some of the trails are tight and off camber with random rocks rolling about. The sort of country that, if you are sweeping you dont want to be on a XR650 stopping and starting helping people out, the big girl boiled once on me today on a snotty hill after Connor had a moment on it.
July 15, 2011 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Sweep Riders needed. State Sprints, Mt Seaview. JULY 23-24 #204906Righto Guys. We rode the freshly “cut” tracks today. They are definatly “State level” Trails. They will get a bit easier once a few more bike have been through. Just to give you an idea of the trails…..I have decided I wont be riding the XR650, the YZ250F will be getting a run. Once the pics are uploaded I will do a ride report. (probably not tonight, as I am feeling it). :S

This is what i have so far.
I will be there on Friday afternoon.
Ready to sweep from 7am Sat.
Riding full days both days.
Not staying at the resort.
Can get breakfast and lunch sort out dinner myself.
Bring what i need shop 30 ks away.
Bring sleeping bag, pillow and ear plugs. And i can scratch the whole massage idea!
Yep that is it in a nutshell. Although you wont be expected to ride all day both days. That is why we need a team of 13. 12 riders and a sweep coordinator (that is me). The loop is a bloody long one and there will be a sweep base halfway round where you can rest and another rider takes over. I think that is what the organisers have in mind.
