For those who are wondering where TB is.
Just spoke to TB as he was crossing the Grafton bridge, they spent the night at the Novotel at Coffs where they caught up with STM for a beer, this morning they did a run up through Nana Glen and at the time I was talking to him they had just clocked up 1165km for the trip. TB suggested that it has been about 50/50 dirt and tar since they left Sydney. The plan for today is to head on up to Yamba and stay at Nickj’s place before heading south again.

    The very reason we stayed away from Swan’s Crossing on Tuesday;

    From Todays Port News.

    TWO motorbike riders were seriously
injured in a “freaky” head-on crash at
    a popular camping ground yesterday.
    The Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted
the men, aged 39 and 22, to hospital
    after the lunchtime accident at
    Swans Crossing near, Laurieton, south
    of Port Macquarie.
A family member of the 22-year-old
injured Taree man, who did not want to
be named, said the two men “were going
pretty fast and hit pretty hard”.
    The man suffered sustained head
    injuries and a fractured ankle.
The other rider, from Newcastle suffered
head injuries and a broken jaw.
Both men had been stay at the camping
    ground near Swans Crossing.
    Laurieton ambulance paramedic
Mark Leiper said the crash “was just a
    freaky accident”.
Both men were airlifted to John
    Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
    Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew
chief Pete Cummings said each man
    was in a stable condition.
    Laurieton police Senior Constable
Chris Rowley said the cause of the accident
    is still to be determined.
Both men were airlifted from the
    scene at 3pm.
The Rural Fire Service as well as
    members from Port Macquarie
Ambulance Service were also called to
    the scene.

steve i got back into riding 4 years ago after not having riden for 25 years.I made the mistake

of buying the wrong bike first up and re-sold it after 2 months. If i had my time again i would

buy a DRZ400 first up. Hope this helps ;)

Such wisdom from our newly appointed moderator. My Honda googles wouldn’t let me see the big picture and what Aido says is right on the mark. A DRZ400 is a very capable user friendly bike with the all important (for some) electric start.

    Hey Richard,
What Kato did you get?? Cant believe you didn’t get another Honda, seeing as your CRF carried you to victory this year!!

Seen her on e-bay for sale by Squeak at Wauchope, figured there can’t be to many Squeaks in Wauchope and seeing the Squeak I know is a pretty good bloke I coughed up that little bid more than she’s worth. Seems ok so far for an ’03 525 with 3300 k’s and 90 hrs. Seems the little weep in one of the forks is more like a major leak which has led to not much front end braking.
If got virtually no front end suspension at all on her, bled the air out and adjusted the compression to the softest setting. If you put the front brake on and push down hard you get about 100mm of travel, push again 75mm of travel then again for about 25mm of travel. Ride her down the road and she feels like a rigid. Figured someone would point me in the right direction on Sunday seeing everyone else is on holiday.

Get onto KTMRAT (aka Dave B) and I am sure he could sort it out, He might even have a spare set of forks he could loan you untill you get them sorted. If it was owned by Squeak you can rest assured it has been well cared for.

Spent the morning with TB yesterday, we rode the bikes into Port and visited Strucky. I rode the Tenere and TB rode the NX. The Tenere is a very nice bike and with a bit more tweaking TB can expect the same blistering performance and braking, I experience with the NX.

In Port he near had to pry my fingers off the handgrips of the Tenere as I didn’t want to surrender the Tenere and be relegated back to the NX :(

A return to my place saw TB in the pool fighting with my kids, while I cooked up a BBQ lunch :cheer:

Looking out of my office at the weather today, I cant help be a bit jealous of him and Sal. :(

It would be a nice day for a cruise up to Coffs.

Welcome Steve, Thanks for the intro. You cant go wrong with a XR, you might want to check out a XR400 before you make a purchase though, Top little bike. Any XR question, just shoot mate, we will do our best to help you out.
I also had years off the bike doing the Scuba diving and Marlin fishing things. They are both addictive and expensive sports and as you will find bikes can be too.
    Cheers
    Mick
