No It hasn’t effing started!! I was merely pointing out the difference between heavy showers and pissing down flood making rain.
Wauchope to Bulahdelah
Friday – Cloudy. Scattered showers, heavy at times. Winds S/SE averaging 15 to 30 km/h decreasing below 20 km/h later in the evening.
Saturday – Cloudy. Patchy fog in the south in the morning. Scattered showers. Winds E/SE averaging 10 to 20 km/h.Jeffro wrote:

Yes Krusty, Consumers and retailers, normally you are either one or the other. The above statement was not exactly meant an “us and them” scenario.
See fellas?? Some great points being bought up by Tisco,Phil and Fossil all guys with an intimate knowledge of how bike shops work.
All stuff your average punter on the street gives no thought to. All the average punter wants to do is get out of it as cheap as they can and go riding, normally conscience doesn’t come into it.It is great to get some feed back from the other side of the fence (blokes in the industry). Maybe both sides will take something away from this thread.

So for me and every body else who likes to pick up cheap tyres through Sutto’s i will at least be calling them first and it would want to be a massive gap before i buy OS.

I agree with everything you have said Corey except;

You have also hit on another important point Corey, customer Service is the MOST important thing when running a retail store of any sort. If you have snarly or disinterested point of sale people, your return customers will be very thin on the ground.

This whole thread has got me thinking hard and I just realised after doing some sums, that on an average I spend at least 10% of my weekly wage in one local bike shop alone. That is to keep 3 bikes running that get ridden most weekends.
Another thing too is that I am lead to believe that it will be sometime before we see a flow on effect from the strong dollar as most dealers have ordered months in advance. Negating any immediate savings of the current strong dollar.
The perception that things on Ebay are cheap is quite often off the mark too.
On Ebay a clutch cable (after market) for a KX65 was $35.00 + delivery.
Mudntar supplied me the same article (genuine part) for $27.00
I am amazed that the Australian Govt is still allowing it to happen as there is a ton of GST they are missing out on as at this stage anything under $1000 comes in unflagged. I do believe in England now, a tax is payable for anything bought in from OS. Dunno how it works but have heard talk of it from a concerned bike shop owner.

What time are you heading down Mick and Moose??? I’ll tag alone with you guys.
What happened to Tripper????
We are leaving my place after lunch sometime probably about 2pm at this stage. What bike are you riding?? You Father inlaws?? WE are planning on a 160km run to Bulahdelah, approximately 90km’s will be gravel road.
AS for Tripper, his missus took of for Fiji this morning, taking his balls with her plus leaving him with a ball and chain on, two kids and her mother.

Quote:There is a difference though between what we pay and what they pay, for a dealer there would be additional taxes like import duties that the personal buyer is exempt from.Jeffro, you will probably find that the “import duties” are only 10% gst on the invoice price of the goods, freight and insurance.

Quote:Totally agree with you mick, onya Sutto’s ++++however when there is a substantial difference between suppliers the question has to be asked. All anybody wants is a fair deal and not to be shafted, but if a part over here is $147 and the same part from the US $92.00AU delivered, it makes you wonder.
Loyalty (for lack of a better word) is a 2 way street
cheers Hatto
I am hearing you Hatto, The temptation is there.
Only yesterday I enquired about the new FOX Roost protectors.
I was quoted $179.00 here in OZ.
My son was online this morning and found the same ones in the States for $99 + freight.
Makes you wonder who is making the big margins on a lot of this stuff that is now mostly made in China at a fraction of the end price presented to us here in OZ. -
