Here is a fine example of a ride report thread, that started out not to bad but it went to the dogs fairly quickly.

Is it the steel tail light subframe or the aluminium main sub frame that has been bent?

As an after thought Mick, why did the circlip come off? You dont hear of this much yet there are a lot of bikes out there running circlips on the countershaft sprockets and they all couldnt be new or in perfect condition.
If I were you I would be checking rear sprocket the countershaft sprocket alignment especially since not long ago you fitted a longer swingarm ( I know its done some work since then but?) bent rear sprocket, check your circlip groove etc, everything happens for a reason mate and kids safety and our own shouldnt be taken lightly

Thanks TB, I will give it a thorough going over this evening. There is no lateral play in the swing arm bearings or the wheels. I will check the sprocket alignment with a straight edge while I am at it.The clip that came off wasn’t a genuine Kawasaki one but one that I had in a circlip assortment here. It has held on for close to two years though.

I hate circlips on vital bits like that, but if it’s there I second TBs Silicone advice (you probably already knew that anyway).

Yeah circlips aren’t the best option for holding a vital piece of the bike like the drive sprocket

Betchya special Dad adrenaline gland went into overdrive as it threw him too…..

Nah not really,it didn’t realise it was him till the dust settled and I saw a marshall hand him the numbers that where on his body armour that had been torn off. I only got concerned when I saw the marshall looking at the bike and making a slashing motion across his throat to say the bike was going no where in a hurry.

BTW Mick Brenton said to say a big thank you for the boots, he used them again yesterday and reckons they are better than his old OXtars.

Glad to see them being put to good use and also glad they went to such a nice kid.

    Yamaha’s latest release.

With a cast on his arm and determination in his eyes, Yamaha’s Rodney Faggotter rode up to the start line for Day Six of the Australian Safari in attempt to complete an extremely challenging event.

Less than 24hours earlier, Faggotter dislocated his fingers and broke his wrist in a nasty fall yet he still summoned up the courage to make one last gasp at trying to finish the 2010 Australian Safari.

Unfortunately, the pain was too much for Faggotter and he was unable to hang on to his WR450F and had no choice but to withdraw from the event, where he was in line for a podium finish.

A desperately disappointed Faggotter rode his bike gently back to his work area, placed it on the stand and sat silently gathering his thoughts.

“This race brings out every emotion and over the week you ride a roller coaster of highs and lows. Right now I feel awful, not because of the pain, but because I was unable to finish and I didn’t get the result myself and the crew had worked so hard for.”

“My wrist isn’t good and requires surgery, but if I had the strength to hang on, I would have raced until I couldn’t. I was determined to get a good result here and the guys and I had put in the time and energy for it to happen.”

“I am disappointed for my great team of sponsors and everyone who has helped me to get to this point. I wish I could have given everyone a result to be proud of,” Faggotter laments.

Rodney’s effort in the 2010 Australian Safari was sensational. As the full time owner / manager of Centretune Motorcycles his work commitments come first and riding his dirt bike is more a hobby than a profession. In his younger years, Rod was a respectable A- grade motocross racer in Queensland but has really found his niche in Rallye or Enduro style events where he already has racked up a long list of victories including the 2010 Condo 750.

Before the Day five crashes, Rod was in a tight tussle for second place with Todd Smith and less than five minutes away from leader Ben Grabham.

When the topic changes to 2011, Rod said, “I will be back next year. The jobs not done and we have shown that we have the pace. I will get my wrist fixed and be back for 2011.”

Yamaha’s Motorsport Manager Ray Howard acknowledged the efforts of Rod and his support crew, “While Rodney is blaming himself for not finishing the Safari, no one else is and I can only congratulate him and his team for an excellent effort. The Safari requires not only guts, rider skill and concentration its requires a special determination to be there at the end. Rodney has all of these attributes, that’s why Yamaha are there with him. We believe he can win the Safari and that’s why we will be back again next year.”

Glad you “new guys” had a ball. Days like you just experienced are what OBT was initially set up to organise. Top work TB and Crash.

    todays update from Yamaha.
For Immediate Release: Friday, September 24, 2010.

Day five was a day to forget for Yamaha’s Rod Faggotter finishing with a suspected broken handRod Faggotter’s Australian Safari campaign for 2010 hangs by a thread after a tough and challenging day for the front running Yamaha rider.

Rod completed the day with a suspected broken hand and is weighing up his options overnight before making a decision on if he is able to continue for the final two days.

Day five didn’t start well for the Queenslander when he had map reader problems and then crashed in the opening stage. He lost valuable time to the leaders totaling 16 minutes in that stage alone. Then frustration got the better of Faggotter as he was desperate to make up time and he collided with a tree in the afternoon stage that left him with dislocated fingers and a very swollen hand. He dropped another 17 minutes in the afternoon session.

He fought on bravely and finished the last 130kms of the stage before heading directly to the medical ward for an X- Ray.

To Rodney’s credit, he still finished third for the day and sits in third place overall in the Safari despite his day five dramas and shows what a cracking pace he and the front runners have been setting since the event started last Saturday.

“I am a bit gutted right now. I had done all the hard work in the opening days to put myself in a really good position for the final few days and felt that I could come home strongly. Today was just a terrible day for me, but that’s what makes this event so hard. You always have to stay focused and one mistake can cost you. Unfortunately, I made the mistake today.”

“ I’m having my hand checked out now and will sleep on it regarding trying to ride tomorrow. It’s not like a motocross race where you are close to help or your car, I can either do it or I can’t, so I will see how it feels in the morning,” said a dejected Faggotter.
