Sorry barney, Might as well say it now, as opposed to when you do hook up with our Tamworth bretheren and see what sort of raving lunatics actually haunt this forum. :S

Welcome to OBT, you could go no better than to hook up with the Tamworth chapter. All good blokes in my book. Thanks for the intro.

    Another Yamaha press release.

Controversy surrounded the top four riders on Day four of the Australian Safari. Debate raged well into the tonight leaving results and placings to be confirmed by race organisers with provisional results only provided at this stage.

Jacob Smith came down heavily, sustaining serious injuries on a remote section of trail. Ben Grabham, Rod Faggotter and Todd Smith all stopped to assist the fallen rider and radio for help while Matt Fish headed for the nearest check point to notify officials.

Grabham, Faggotter and Smith all spent nearly an hour with the downed Jacob Smith before rejoining the event in what was a huge show of respect and sportsmanship for their fellow competitor.

The issues then surfaced regarding the time of the four competitors of the section and also their starting order for the following sections for the remainder of the day.

“The four of us got together and approached officials about getting the same average time for the section and also reinstate the starting order as it was for the start of the day,” Faggotter said from his base in Norseman.

“Jacob wasn’t in a good way when we got to him and no-one would ride off and leave a mate out there without assistance. All of us felt it was the right thing to do and no one was trying to gain an advantage. The top four are nearly 30 minutes ahead of the fifth place rider and every rider we spoke with was happy with our solution,” Faggotter finishes.

According to the latest official information from event organizers, the situation is currently under review. The time lists on http://www.australiansafari.com.au have implemented the compassionate time correction on a provisional basis to keep the event rolling smoothly and a further decision is to be made.

Day five will see competitors start in the same order as they finished the opening time section on Day four.

Australian Safari Day 4 Results- Provisional
    1st Ben Grabham – KTM
    2nd Rod Faggotter- Yamaha
    3rd Todd Smith – KTM
    4th Matt Fish – KTM

Australian Safari Results- Overall Standings After Day 4 – Provisional

    2nd Rod Faggotter – 15.09.56
    3rd Todd Smith – 15.10.36

Never ridden one but I have watched a few in action and am impressed with the torque they seem to have. B)

Another bit of Yamaha spin from their media unit.

Despite getting wire entangled in both wheels, Yamaha’s Rodney Faggotter is on track for a podium finish as the 2010 Australia Safari heads towards the half way stage.

Faggotter pounded out another workmanlike performance on Day three that saw him finish fifth on the day, but more importantly maintain his third place overall for the event.

Starting the day in third place, Rodney charged to the front of the field in the early stages and took the lead on the road. But running alongside a fence line the rear wheel of Rod’s WR450F picked up some wire and wrapped it around the hub of both wheels.

While untangling the wire, his lead also unraveled, but once remounted and in motion, he was able to peg back some of the lost time, charge back into fifth for the day and maintain his top three standing after three days.

“I seem to be getting my fair share of wire wrapped around my wheels,” Faggotter commented at days’ end. I felt pretty good this morning as the trail was very similar to what I ride at home and I was able to push past Grabham and Smith to take the lead, only to stop not long after with the wire.”

“But otherwise, my plan is to remain smooth and fast across all seven days and so far I have managed to do that.”

“The guys are allowed to work on the bike tonight, so we will give it the full going over, but so far the WR450F has handled everything thrown at it. I feel fresh myself and have plenty left for the remaining four days.”

Day three was cut short when several crashes required major medical assistance. Only one of two timed tests were completed today and the field is now at Coolgardie before moving onto Norseman in WA for the next two nights.
