Another father and son effort on the same day.

Faced with the same dilemma as TB, I to decided to take Connor on a father and son adventure ride.

We dragged the NX out of the shed and piled aboard.

    SDC10615.jpg

WE headed out Bago road a bit and turned off into the forest via small rocky creek.

    SDC10616.jpg

And a few rocky firetrails, with very slippery red clay.

    SDC10617.jpg

    And a mudhole or two

    SDC10620.jpg

Much to Connor’s dismay I turned the NX into some single trail with bushes still wet with overnight rain and his knees got sopping wet.

    SDC10621.jpg

He wanted to get off and walk by this stage.

    SDC10618.jpg

WE finally got to or destination.. The NSW MX Championships at the HVMCC raceway.

    SDC10623.jpg

At the races I met up with Moose , KTMBULL ,Puddles and Jono., Apparently the coffee was not much good.

    SDC10624.jpg

Then Moose and I went down and manned a marshall box on the 2nd corner. Man those buggers can ride!!

Quite a good day out actually. The NX didn’t miss a beat and purred away all day.

Sounds like a good day to me. Had a day out with my young fella too, doing a similar thing. Great weekend for a bit of biking. Will post a story later.

I decided to wait to see the Tenere in the flesh before passing comment. When I saw it up in the back of Mooses ute, it certainly looked a whole lot of bike. When it took 4 of us to safely get it down from the ute,I was convinced it was in fact a big Bike.(not as big and bulky as a KTM 990 Adventure though). AS TB was well affected by Rums, I threw my leg over it to ride it down to the shed and was surprised how tall it was as I was on tip toes in order to reach the ground and thought to myself that TB might struggle with it when the going got tough as his legs are no where near as long as mine.
It certainly is a sweet bike though and once it was in the shed comment was passed on how it looks like something from a science fiction movie, a bit like something you would ride on the moon, such is the design of it.

The Leo Vince slip ons give it a great note albiet a bit loud when TB opens her up, on the trail it throws a fair roost too and looks great and certainly up for anything you throw at it.
I would like to give it a proper run on the dirt when TB has it set up a little better as far as luggage weight distribution and suspension goes.

All in all it is something I would certainly be proud to have in my shed.

great report mick, them roads through that knodingbull area are sweet arent they

I love that area and seeing I had only done the Knodingbull run two weeks earlier, I was able to set a cracking pace through there as I remembered the road well. I couldn’t believe the amount of single trails I spotted along the way, considering how remote the area is.

No bite here just a ride report as I saw it.

Friday arvo, I got Lessa to run me out to Mooses place to pick up his XR so as I could take it back to my shed and fit the big tank to it. Old Burple hadn’t been started since the Sofala ride so she took a bit of coaxing to start. She eventually fired after about 10 kicks and I headed to my place, it soon came apparent old Burple hadn’t been straightened up after Moose binned her in the causeway at the Sofala ride either, as she seemed to be crabbing a bit.
Once I got the her home I went straight into swapping tanks, while I was doing that RiderX turned up, closely followed by Moose and TB. WE unloaded the NX and the Tenere plus a whole heap of other stuff which included all but a spare NX in Boxes.
A few drinks were consumed while old Burple was getting sorted and TB fitted the GPS to the Tenere. Gasit turned up for a drink and a yarn too, it wasn’t long after that when Jeffro rolled down the driveway on the DRZ after riding up from his place, it had already been a big day for him after flying from Melbourne in the morning.
XRTrailhack turned up not long after that, I organised with RiderX and Tripper for them to show XRTRAILHACK around Bago the next morning (he had a big day from what I hear). Later in the evening when festivities where in full swing, TB was in fine form and he and I were arguing about what ever topic came to mind, Bollocks turns up for a drink after driving from Tamworth with his family, who were still asleep in the car out he front of my place (That was brave). Bollocks had a quick yarn, slammed down a rum and was gone again. In the end it was just me, Jeffro, TB and XRTRAILHACK left in the shed bullshitting until 11pm when we called it quits and TB and I staggered up to the house.

WE had a bit of a sleep in, to nearly 7am and we were sitting on the varandah having a coffee when, to our disbelief Boulder came rolling down my driveway after riding all the way from Berowra. How hardcore is that!!!!!! I made him a well deserved coffee and that is when Jeffro and Moose turned up, we then went to the shed to kit up and that is when TB realised the Tenere had a flat battery. After dicking around with my “cheap” jumper leads, the boys managed to get the Tenere to go after jump starting it from my Patrol.

WE headed off and got some fuel and had a quick photo shot at the Timbertown log before heading west on the Oxley Highway. About 5km west of Wauchope we turned into Rosewood rd, that is when Moose suddenly found out that Burple handles a whole heap different with a 24 liter fuel tank full to the brim and he near ran off the road trying to swing her into the corner!! We headed off to Beechwood, after a quick discussion Moose and I decided to change to proposed route as the map TB had suggested we went through Bellangry but Moose and I knew a far better route through Pappinbarra which is a bit more of a challenge with a couple of creek crossings and better scenery.

It was along North arm road that I had to come to terms with how the NX didn’t handle like my XR and no doubt I was setting a “Miss Daisy” pace as I led the boys through the frosty valleys and ice cold creek crossings before we made our way up onto the range and along Hastings Forest way, which leads onto Willi Willi national park and then further onto Werrikimbe National park. We cruised on through the bush and it soon became evident that we were far up into the hills when the Vegetation change to that of snow country and the temperature had dropped way down into single figures and I was wishing that I had worn something warmer other than MX gloves.
WE continued along through Kangaroo Valley, which was very scenic and a great ride before we met the Oxley Highway about 30km west of Gingers Creek roadhouse. Once we hit the tar, Moose wound on the throttle of Old Burple and he threw out the gauntlet and there was no catching him, as TB said Moose and Old Burple own the Mountain. I tried staying with him for a while but as we came down Plum Tree hill I saw the ice laying around the place, even on the road, so I chickened out and let him go.
Once we got to Gingers creek I was surprised to see it deserted of any customers, only to find out the highway was blocked to the east by a truck rollover. The highway reopened and the traffic began to roar past again while we had something to eat. The bike traffic on this road on any weekend is amazing. We topped up our tanks and head off towards Stockyard Crek rest area where we turned off the highway again. At Stockyard creek an organised ride from Trailmates were stopped there, we stopped for a minute while we all introduced ourselves to Huskybloke who was riding with them. We hit the bush again and cruised along Knodingbull road headed towards Mt George, Knodingbull was in great condition and by then I had come to terms with the NX, so I let her have her head and I set a cracking pace for the 50 km length of the road, not stopping until we got to mt George, which is about 70kms from Gloucester. We pulled up for a yarn in front of the general store, it was hear that we decided it may be best if Moose and I peeled off and went our own way through Wingham, as going to Gloucester would mean we would be getting home in the dark. Old Burples headlight sort of points way up into the trees on the right side of the road since Moose binned her at Sofala, which would have made the run up the Comboyne mountain in the dark a real challenge.
So our goodbyes were said and we were off towards Wingham, I topped up the NX with fuel at Wingham and we headed up the hill to my hometown of Comboyne. Both Moose and myself know the roads well in this area and we peddled along at a great pace.

As we cruised through Comboyne, I couldn’t believe my eyes when we met two dudes on NX650’s. You don’t see that every day, especially when you are riding one yourself. WE stopped at the Comboyne RSL and had a schooner before setting a red hot pace down the Mountain to Wauchope, where we had a few long necks of Tooheys in my shed to finish off what was a great day. Moose and I ended up doing 337kms for the day, in that time we saw some great country, some of it I hadn’t seen before, rode some great firetrails, rode half of the Famous Oxley Highway bendy bits, had a good feed at Gingers creek, rode across the top of the Cells river area, enjoyed the company of our ride buddies and generally had a great day out on our bikes.

Moose summed it up perfectly in my shed on our return, when he said “ we certainly live in a great part of the world, cheers”

Was that a gimp on the back in the last pic??

Friday night we had a bit of a shed party, that was fun. Apparently Teneres are made in France.

Saturday, I had a top day out seeing some great country with a great group of guys.

Sunday I flag marshalled at the NSW MX titles with help from my mate Bollocks. Saw some seriously fast kids today.

Tomorrow, Connor and I have a leave pass to do whatever. Looks like we are going riding tomorrow. :woohoo:

They have a CDI which is a little black box rubber mounted under the seat and just next to it there shoud be a regulator rectifier that is an aluminium thing with a few fins on it from memory. It sits directly above the boot that connects the carbie to the airbox. There is also another Reg/rectifier behind the headlight too.

Well massive comes to mind. I have just got home been riding since 8.30 this morning, nearly 12hrs I travelled 648kms. Had to double someone 120 odd kms home  We didnt do the route cause well we didnt did we Mick  .

Ummmm….If you look at your map again, you will find that we came aweful close to doing it. It turns out that picture of the bridge you wanted to find, is the washed out one on Causeway road. You was the one wanting to cut the ride short if I remember right, you was the one not wanting to do the singles or any scary creek crossings where your feet might get wet. ;)

Of course Mick didnt fit the big tank to his XR because well he is Mick

The T piece was the incorrect size, thus making fitting the tank futile.

I did go and get Mooses bike and fit the big tank to it though.

Boulder showed up Jeffro  Actually Boulder showed up everybody.

Couldn’t believe my eyes when Boulder rocked down my Driveway at 7am after riding from Berowra. Now that is hard core. Awesome effort.

Moose owns the Oxley Hwy ;)

    That he does

Jeffro has a lovely bunch of coconuts  And he is an ugly bitch :P

    Bloody coconuts

    Bollocks is a legend.

Also very brave, lucky his missus didn’t wake up in the car parked out the front of my shack on Friday night

Mick again showed his lack of shed skills :P

Whatever, at least I didn’t smoke any durries.

Yes I left the grip warmers on and had a flat battery

Even after saying you need a little light to tell you when they are on.

BTW “Tenere” is an aboriginal word  Did anyone know that they are made in France???? WE do, TB told us 10 times on Friday night.

Mick’s tight arse jumper leads weren’t worth a knob of goat shit till Boulder, Jeffro and I fixed them while Mick, well Mick, Mick did, Mick walked around in circles

It took 3 of you to fix them??? Big job that. They cost me $17, 20 years ago and have served me well untill you got hold of them.

Mick got the NX going later in the day ;)

Yep I came to terms with the NX later in the day after I worked out all her idiosyncrasies and how to ride around the flat spot. I had a ball on the old girl.

Moose just giggled a lot, his knowledge of the tracks was invaluable cheers mate and cheers for the ride on Friday while sampled some bundies

Mooses knowledge?? Ummm I think I may have lead the ride through to Mt George. Moose had less idea where we were going than I did.

Sampled some Bundies??? Two long necks and 9 cans goes way beyond the definition of sample

If you put enough clothes on you cane be warm and comfortable

More to come later, pictures etc and a full report maybe

To set the record straight, by the time we got to Mt George I was in the zone and quite happy to continue on to Gloucester,it was my ride buddy who pointed out that his headlight wasn’t up to scratch for a ride home over Comboyne Plateau in the dark. Hopefully that clears a few things up. :)

Hey everybody, did you know Teneres are made in France???

I think Chicken has one. I had one exactly like that many years ago. Worst off I ever had on a dirt bike came from that old girl.
