suggestions?
Aaron, you will need to have the timing mark on the flywheel lined up with the mark on the engine case. At the top dead centre required, all your cam lobes should be pointing downwards. That is putting it simply and is the technique I use.
If the rocker cover is still on the bike and you cant see the cam, all your rockers should “Rock” indicating the engine is at TDC.menace wrote:

1/ turn wheel so that valve stem is on the bottom, not to be mistaken for rim lock stem.2/ Unscrew valve stem protector, usually black plastic but can come in different materials (not important) however if you do not have these protectors/caps I recommend you get some as it will make step 3 easier as it assist to keep out mud and stuff.
3/ With protection cap removed, look at the litte steel stem on top of the valve. it should have the same clearance from all sides of the valve stem, if there is a variance you have dodgy valve clearance and you need to by a DRZ.
there valve clearance checks in 3 easy steps
You are all welcome:blush:
On that note I am logging off and going home.
XR valve clearances are somewhat easier. Didn’t take you long to catch on, Bruce from Northern NSW.
