Is that when Merriman and Hollis got around you?
How lucky were we with the weather? It is pelting down rain here this morning.
A short report from Sundays Ride.
Woke up on Sunday with a few aches and pains and feeling every bit of my 44 years.
RiderX had organised a special ride for those that were still keen, Ray, one of the local trail legends was to take us on a tour of his special trails over at Bonny Hills. Ray Has been riding these trails for 35 or more years and he certainly knows his way around. He just kept on linking one sweet trail to the next and gave us a fair work out.
The first place he took us to is called Old Bottlebutt ,an awesome big tree in the bush just out of Wauchope.
Here are the pics I took there.
The trails Ray led us through were mainly flowing rain forest single trail that were a pleasure to ride and all of a sudden he threw a tricky hill climb at us.
I rounded the corner,to be greeted with a rather steep shaley hill with rock step ups and rutts. The bit that concerned me most was, there were blokes from our group coming back down the hill after failing to make it on their first run at the hill and they were all younger than me on state of the art bikes and here is me on 140kg of steel framed XR. To my relief the XR picked a good line and I just hung on until she got us both to the top.
Here is RC Honda on his 2nd attempt at the hill.Pics don’t do justice to how steep and Gnarly this section was. It was no doubt the hardest section of the whole weekend.
It didn’t quite go to plan for him.
He got there in the End,even though the buster stuffed his ankle and he had to retire soon after.
Ray lead us on a heap more awesome trails, some I had done before and some I want to do again and a ton that I had no idea they were there. From there we headed over to the Hastings Valley Motorcycle raceway to watch the Aussie offroad championships for a while.
A quick shortcut through Cowarra from there put us back near the Brecken ridge Farmstay so the boys could pack up and make the long drive home.
A special mention must go to White Rockets effort,he rode hard all weekend and then loaded up his big gear bag, strapped it to his back and he rode the big Kato back to Taree along th e Highway.
Thanks must go to Ray for the ride it was great,I cant wait to get out there when I am fresh and not the day after a RiderX boot camp.Like Eagle,I have a set of Fox dirtpaws and so do the kids. They seem to hold up well.
Who’s stupid idea was it to ride for three days???? It is Monday Morning and all the little sore bits have joined forces and become one big sore bit. :S

Boulder looking the goods just before things went real pear shaped.
Moose and Rocket were ther to lend a helping hand (Boulder’s DRZ wasn’t the only DRZ to go arse up here ay Holeshot?)
I even had a go on a new WR450
Ash made everything look easy all day
Bloody young fellas showed us up all weekend. JCW250 cruise on through.
Strucky’s XR400, handled the log jam with ease.
DT had a good time on the logs.
What a great three days!! Thanks to all the guys who turned up and rode. I had a ball except when I crashed, that sucked, especially because Ollie saw it happen!!

CheersI am not much better, I am quite knackered myself. Will post some pics soon.
I threw my GOOD XR away on Saturday big time and if it had of had a radiator on it, my wallet would have been in for a whole world of hurt. Sometimes simplicity is good.
Performance per CC isn’t really an issue, as the XR did everything that all the state off the art bikes did this weekend and did it easy.
I get some degree of perverse satisfaction out of riding past “new” bikes on the XR.MOTO’s bike is a goer and you wouldn’t believe it,on the test ride here in Wauchope he got to meet the local policewoman than wasn’t real impressed with his 4th gear wheelie.
Lucky he has his boy band good looks, as she let him go!!I can just see you now sitting in my shed giggling trying to think up the next thing you can shit stir me with.
