lol
Chicken has been toying with the idea but thinks an XR600 is to old !Wouldn’t that be scary!!! A whole heap of BRP’s out to create carnage!!!!
A XR600 to old ? Never. My XR could handle the pace, no worries, but sure as hell I couldn’t. Take a good man to throw the BRP around at race pace for four days with out hurting himself!!!Yeah Cam, to me family is what it is really about. My Kids race MX and sprints. Connor is on a KX85 and Taylah has a KTM mini Adventure and a KTM Pro senior. The missus refuses to ride whether it be on her own or pillion.
I also regularly ride with my two brothers on the weekend and we have a ball.
You aren’t the only one eyeing off the new KTM 300 Blackzippo has one in his sights as well. The stuff is called Loctite 406 but super glue will do the same job.
The aluminium cleaner is called Blitz and as for the Lanox it is made by Inox (another type of WD40), it has Lanolin from sheep’s wool in it. It was about $75 for 4 litres and can be bought from most good automotive places.
I know $75 sounds a lot but this drum has lasted nearly 2 years and there is plenty left and believe me I use it on every thing as it can be used as a anti seize as well.
It can be bought in smaller containers but I am a firm believer of buying in bulk and saving $$$.What a great yarn and pics!!! Congratulations mate.
Dunno if I would do it myself, after lugging my BRP through some of the A4DE trails up at Coffs Harbour .
Two days of that and I was Ratshit!!!Trippers 1994 XR630.
The XR was bought off the internet for $2600. She was a bit rougher than the description on the internet when it arrived.
The main reason we got it was, it had a reasonably new 630 kit in it.
The kickstarter recoil spring was knackered, which was a bigger job than expected. The actual kickstarter pedal was totally worn out as well, so worn in fact that your foot would slip off and your shin would crack into the footpeg if you tried to kick it. The carby was worn out and you couldn’t get the thing to idle steady.
The rear suspension bearings were flogged out. Some clown had painted the whole bike with a paint brush .Once you got it fire, it went like the clappers. So we had the makings of a project bike. There is a heap of frustration when dealing with someone else’s stuff ups but a hell a lot of satisfaction from bringing a bike back from the dead.
This how it looked when it arrived…….
Not real pretty!!!!
Anyhow we set to work on the old girl.
Kick starter mechanism plus gaskets $180
Kickstarter $187
Rear shock bearings $80
Chris took the plastics and painted them with genuine CAT paint (free.pinched from Ant’s workshop)
CAT stickers, carton of beer
Pro taper bars, $90
Headlight guard, stolen from a CAT D5 and adapted to fit.
Home made sump guard made from scrap cost, nominal.
Set of aftermarket blinkers $44
Assorted seals,she was leaking a bit, $18
miscellaneous stuff,$80
Fitted the carby of my XR after I fitted the mikuni.
A bit of elbow grease and a few cartons of Tooheys and this is how she looks now…..
A heap better I think. A bit of work and now Chris has a bike that will last for years and hold its own out in the bush all for the cost of $3400
Although I have noticed she now has a leaking tappet cover and one fork seal.
Another excuse to spend a night in the shed drinking a few coldies.Gday Cam,
Glad to see you finally stuck your head in and said G’day.
Sorry about the persistant PM’s on TT.
Cheers & welcome aboard
MickHaving bought and sold quite a few bikes over the last year or so, we have done our fair share of detailing bikes.
To do a really good job we remove the plastics, seat and air filter, then we use a cover for the airbox made by Twin air to keep the water out of the carby while the airbox is being washed. We then wash the bike with truck wash (we have an assortment of little brushes that come from the $2 shop that get into all the nooks and crannies) and blow the bike dry with compressed air.
Then we wipe the bike over with either turps or prepsol which gets most of the dirt out of the fine scratches in the plastics.
For any stubborn stains like boot rubs on white side covers, nothing beats Gumption and elbow grease.
If any of the graphics are starting to lift,I use some stuff like super glue made by loctite to stick them back on, if you do that regularly you can extend the life of the graphic by heaps.
The trick I use to make a half arsed job look like a beauty is once the bike is washed and dry give it a liberal coating of Lanox, then wipe the bike over with a rag and it comes up looking like new.
That Lanox is the duck’s guts.
When I first got the XR it was covered in Cow crap and red mud that had been on it for several years as the XR was in a shed for about 5 years as the previous owner couldn’t get it to start,so he just left it there.
The motor was stained an unusual red colour,so I took to it with an Aluminium cleaner that you brushed on and let it fizz for a minute or two then hose off.
Didn’t that bring her up nicely………Yeah right Rocky, how’s it go? Do do Dooo….Do do Dooooo…..Oh never mind..Like a tiger?
Has any one pointed out that your black stripes are getting a bit grey??LOLGreat shed !! Heaps neater than my shit fight!!
My old man always said, never use your trump card first and I just forgot.
Na, I just decided to set up my garage in a different strain.chris72a wrote:
Quote:Hey Mick, just get her some fake ID so when the coppers pull you over she can show them that she really is 18.. :laugh:Cheers
Chris. She already thinks she is 18!!!
RUM!!!!! Rum is made from Bull’s balls and boxing gloves.
Last time I drank rum in the shed, I forgot to nip the sump plug up on my KTM250sx which didn’t end pretty on the next ride. I do believe KTMRAT was there as well, hence the fact that there was Rum in the shed.Yeah TB Post the pics of crash’s crash here, that is an awesome set of pics!!! The very thing I would like to see in this thread.
Bump,
Bumped, because this thread should be a good one. Come on guys don’t be shy show us your pics of you and your bike out there amongst it. -
