Oh, you guys are back? I have been hanging around here on my own for the last couple of days, feeling like Freddie no friends!!! The carby bolted in “dog shit” easy as chicken said considering it came with no instuctions or procedures. 1 hr and I had the thing idleing after 5 kicks. I had to dick around with air mixture and the main jet as it had a bad bog off idle at first and I had a bit of an issue with the cable routeing as it would rev up if you turned to the right but I think I have that sorted now as well. I don’t think it is still quite right but I will hit the bush today and give it a test. I rode it around the block last night and it will wheelstand in 3rd by just winding the throttle on, it didn’t do that before!!! I have noticed a change in the power curve, for the good or bad I will see today.
Just bought the 38mm mikuni off Ballards $429.00, It will come tomorrow and I will fit it tomorrow night,oh shhit the State of Origin is on.Thursday then.
I went for the 38 as Geoff Ballard reakons the 41 is a bit big for a weekend warrior bike,if you wanna get serious you go for the 41mm.Hey Chicken,
Is there any reason you bought the 38mm as opposed to the 41mm mikuni?
Do you guys think there would be any benefit to buy the 41mm for my bike as it has the 630 kit?
cheers
mickYeah I knew they had a problem with the choke plates snapping off. This carby hasn’t even got the shaft in it, to screw the plate to.
I’m thinking I might just lash out myself and put a new carby on my XR and give him mine.
I actually own my brothers XR, I bought it so he wouldn’t keep borrowing my good one. He is notorious for crashing through scrub and parking bikes horizontally.
I bought it on the internet and when it arrived it didn’t quite fit the description ol mate gave.
He forgot to mention that the recoil spring in the kick starter was cactus and that the rear shock linkage was flogged out or that some clown had painted it with a paint brush.
It starts easily cold, it is just when she gets hot it can be a bastard,I am thinking maybe stator as well.
It was ugly as sin when we got it, so the first bit of wet weather that we were stuck in the shed, we did this to it……….She gets some comment now.

Quote:Hey Mick you interested in making the drive ??Near Lithgow in the middle of winter??? Have you got rocks in your head? I live on the North Coast for a reason!!! (minimal shrinkage).
When the weather warms up count me in, until then I will stick around here and further north.
In all honesty our club is hosting the NSW Motocross championships the following weekend and we are committed to help get the track ready at the working bee on the 19th.
Thanks for the invite though. It aint my wife that is snakey it is my brothers. Mate, my missus is a gem,you only have to look in my shed to see what she puts up with.
I have found another standard carby on Japan’s version of ebay for $20.
They also have brand new FCR41 carbs for about $360 + freight (about $40),I also got a brand new kickstarter for $16.
I am presuming that the ones at Ballards are the Mikuni 41ml?
Any idea what they end up costing? With our dollar so strong in the U.S a fella should have a look there as well.
To answer trailboss’s question the old girl has about 18000 km on it,
I pulled the carby out and cleaned it all out and noticed it has no choke plate so I think it is time for a new carby.
I also sprayed some WD40 around the intake boot to check for leaks but it made no difference. The north coast is a bit cloudy this morning so I have just been checking the radar myself actually. I am planning to take my son up to Kempsey on the 990 to watch the Akubra classic flat track racing today.
I took the XR for a blast with my brother yesterday and it was sunny when we were kitting up and by the time we hit the bush the rain was hammering down,so we had some fun in the mud.As soon as we got home the rain stopped,so we sat around drinking beers in the sun to warm up!!!
Keep us posted on what is happening at Finke,I have been toying about going there myself to watch one day, it would be a big test for the 990!!Yeah, What he said^^^^^^^^!!! Stop lurking and join up. Even if you just say Gday.
How mad was that!!!! I loved how quick he was back on the gas!!
Yeah same here, I have been on Thumpertalk for a year or so and I was stoked to see that there was a site starting in OZ.
TT has some right twits on there, who packs a hand gun to go for a ride???!!! It has some good info on there as well.
I see that this site has heaps of lurkers, dont lurk, register and say Gday. The more the merrier.
Anyhow yak soon.
Cheers
MickHey Chris,
I use a photo hosting site and just paste the URL into my replies but I noticed if the file is a big one, it makes the page too wide so I am having to resize for this forum. Is there a better way I can do it? The way I have been doing it works fine on thumpertalk. The site I us is called http://xs.to/
it is a free site with no registration required.Dunno,
We were looking at trying them one our KTM530 and someone who has a bit of an idea about things basically told me to not worry about them as they are not much chop in his opinion. So I still run the bridgestone ED12’s which I am very happy with.Depending on what sort of riding we do I get between 1000-1300km out of them,on the KTM530 or the XR600.Hi Husky,
welcome aboard.Nice part of the country where you live.
Out of a matter of interest, how’d you find this site?
cheers
MickI am gunna do some name dropping here. Chris (I can ride real good) Hollis, is my cousin!!!
You wouldn’t get a nicer guy to represent motorcycle racing. He does his best to make it to most meetings at our club, where you can imagine ,he is the local hero as he comes from Wauchope.
He talks to all the young kids and does his best to encourage them.
He has just come back from the Erzberg rodeo in Austria, I haven’t at this stage been able to find out how it went for him. He is certainly someone to watch.Gday Chicken,
Pleased to meet you!! I am a fellow BRP rider. I have 2 XR600R’s in my shed, a 99 and a 94 both with the 630 kit. I know why you like long distance rides…..,XR’s have a proper seat!! I am looking forward to talking some XR stuff with you.
Cheers
