My question is what tyres should I buy for my NX as it is only used on the road I want something nice and smooth for the tar.You should be happy with the perelli M21 I still have one on the front on the XR and they last a while the dunlop are softer and wear quick. B)

I have a set of Metzeler Tourance that I didnt include in the write up but will when I do a 15,000km update. They are a great tyre, real good in the wet on the bitumen and will handle a dirt road or 3. Front, 90/90/21. Rear, 13/80/17 for your NX mate, ring Jay @ Sutto’s 47379566 tell him Greg sent you and you are an Old Bull he will hook you up.

I have used Michelin Anakes on my previous GS BMW’s and have found them to be an excellent tyre for more road going adventure riding. I prefer them to the Metzler Tourance (which I have also used) which are still an excellent tyre. Niether of them is much good in slippery mud though as you would imagine when you look at the tread pattern. I used to get about 10,000k’s+ out of a rear Anake on my GS1150 and 20,000k+ out of a front tyre. The Metzler Tourance I found lasted longer but did not give quite as good grip cornering on road. The only problem with these tyres is the higher cost relative to other brands out there but with the weight of the bigger bikes I think it is worth it.

All done fellas. Left the swing arm on the bike and used your idea Murph with the socket. It worked like a beauti. I had to give it a few good hits until it loosened up and started to move but nothin to extreme. I think i’ll take it off next time though mainly for the convinience of having it in me hands to put the new one in which was a bit tricky doin on the bike. Anyway it all worked out well so thanks for the advise….Dusty

Ballards have a tool thingy which is supposed to make it easy (90.00) anyone used one, I have 2 to do

    cheers Hatto

I have done a couple of them over the years just using a socket and extension bar to knock them out with the swing arm still in the bike without any problems. Just place the bike on the bike stand, unbolt the shock, lift it out then drive out the old bush and fit in new one. Should only take about half an hour and a couple of beers :P

Guys, you can get a neoprene sock which covers the joint and stops most of the crap getting to the bush and wearing them out.

I had one on mine for a couple of years and never had a problem. B)

Also you must not oil or lubricate the heim joint as they are a nylon type bush – the oil holds any dust/dirt and acts like grinding paste to wear out the joint.

Checked out the wear on my back tyre today.
The Pirelli MT21 had 14.5mm of tread depth on the centre blocks when I fitted it before the corner ride and it still has 10mm of tread left after 2300kms with about 900k’s on the tar and running about 20psi pressure.
Not bad running I thought B)

Seems we have underestimated how tough Nick really is, just received a phone call from him. His doctor sent him for a ultra sound on his foot and amongst the “pieces” of sleeper in his foot is a piece 1/2 inch wide by 1 inch long  its wedged between the bone and the tendons. They operate tonight

I have always found them to be very effective, there was very little dust on the filter after removing the skin :)

Well it was a great trip, about the only thing TB could not organize was the weather.

Some thank yous that have been said before but I will repeat them:

Thanks to TB for all the organizing of the trip along with Boulder our route marshal.
To our support vehicle crew Gaz and Bollocks who looked after us ssooo well, I’m sure they will be riding next year.
Pep for the loan of his vehicle for support duty.
And to the rest of the crew for their comaradery, good humour and companionship making the journey a memorable one.
