Looks like they are forecasting some rain for the broken hill area on Mon & Tues

Hopefully they are not correct as usual?? :P

I’ve got my wet weather gear packed and know it works after 2 days of rain last weekend and the Andys bags kept everything inside dry.

    Bring it on.

    Hi all
I had a chat with TB about this today and he agrees that it would be a good idea to each carry a list of phone numbers in our backpacks ie. Home, wife, parents, close friend and local doctor.( solicitor :) )

I also thought it could be good if we each had the other riders mobile numbers and home numbers on that same list , just in case.
I will pm mine to the other riders if all agree this is a good idea and we should all pm each other with the same.

Let me know your thoughts ?

Sounds like a good idea Nick.
Might be best if we have one person collate all the numbers and they could then pm all the guys going.

On another note regarding GPS mounting, I had my Garmin 60CSX on a Garmin bike mount on the bars on a ride a few of us OBT members did on the weekend with ORE site
(see this link to the ride report
    http://www.offroadexplorer.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1682&p=10705#p10705 )
and by the end of the two days ride the GPS was wobbling about as the plastic mountings were worn away by vibration. All up the mount has done about 1500km on the bike, so if you are using one of these mounts for the trip I doubt that it will last.
I had another RAM mount which I hadn’t used because of the bulky ball and clamp arrangement but ended up using the GPS holder and made my own mounting clamped to the bars which is a lot more solid. B)
I don’t know what sort of mounts the rest of you guys are using but I thought I would pass on this info just in case BEFORE someones GPS comes adrift.

At least you guys are part of a “Team”, Lotsa and I are only “followers” what ever that is :( but we are on the list and cant wait.

Did the front end of the bike after finishing night shift today. :S New wheel bearings & seals, greased steering head, checked the forks. Just hope I tightened everything back up properly and don’t do a Menace.

2 day ride around the Cells/ Nowendoc/ Nundle on the long weekend for a last shake down, then finish off the bike with tyres, chain, sprockets, bearings etc in the week before we go :woohoo:

    Kat, have a great trip.
Looking forward to the ride report.
With the airhawk, just run the minimum amount of air in it to keep your arse off the seat. You’ll work it out.

    Good luck :woohoo:

Come on just a couple of 500km easy days and we can squeeze this in can we, can we 😆

    TB

Hope thats not straight down the tar to Yunta???

We can discuss it all on Sunday :) Maybe come back down some of the way from the corner (the way we were originally heading up)???

Nick, the 690 seat is 190mm wide through most of its length and flairs out a bit to 230mm wide at the back. The LC4 640 seat (much the same as 625SXC) is about 220mm wide the length of the seat. not sure of DR650 width.
Even though the small cruiser Airhawk overhangs the sides of the seat, it still seems to give good support and effectively makes the seat wider.
I’ll get a photo and post it up later.

Lotsa and I have the small cruiser seat cushion which works very well. It tapers towards the front, wider in the centre then tapers at the rear again but not as much as the front.
It allows you to move around quite easily and gives you a bigger support area in the middle when you are sitting which seams to work great.
Lotsa has the DR650, Mark1957 has a KTM625SXC and I have the KTM690 all with the small cruiser seat.

I better let you guys know I’m preparing for this ride.

I set up the camp in the back yard yesterday. Packed it up this morning

Does that mean you had a little sleep out

I’ve improved the fuel consuption by not ringing the neck out of it

Got to say we dont need any ringing the neck out of them on this trip

and found I can pick up a DR650 from lying on it’s side while it is fully loaded.

Yeah I can pick mine up but its a struggle am aiming to do the whole trip without picking it up though ;)
    The things you learn, eh.

Other preparation was having a cup of instant coffee. I managed…just. Now that’s roughing it.

Bollocks cant you do a barristers course before the trip

How about a Barista course :silly:

When chatting with the King of the big mile Boulder the other day he suggested we make sure everybody going has Ambulance cover minimum (or at least remind / advise them) because a Ambulance ride out of a remote area would cost a small fortune and and air Ambulance ride  the amount would cover the cost to run a small country

    TB

If you ride motorbikes and don’t have ambulance cover you are crazy.
My youngest son has frequent flyer points with the air ambulance choppers :S

Hey Mick thats looking the business end of the deal very nice

Sorry I only just saw the post

    TB

    Yeh,
the guys at B&B Offroad were fantastic. They have a rack that they make for the 690 but it is smaller and has an upright section welded to it that I did not want. I saw a larger rack they had made for a guy on Advrider but it was huge, so I drew up the size i wanted and emailed the info to them for a quote on Monday. Tuesday they replied and I said go ahead about 3pm that arvo. Wed. 1pm I got an email from them saying the rack was ready. I could not believe it. So I rang them up and paid them the $200 over the phone and had it home in the mail on Friday.
You cannot ask for better than that. Chris from B&B was the guy I dealt with and he was excellent.
Very happy with the rack :woohoo:

Picked up my new wheel bearings today. Seems a shame to change perfectly good bearings and seals but at least I can make sure they are packed full of grease for the trip and not have to worry about them.
I will service the forks before the trip as well. I’ve already done all the swing arm & linkages and had the shock serviced recently. New chain, sprockets & back tyre are ready to fit after a ride on the long weekend before we leave.
Waiting for my new MSC under bar steering damper to come so I can fit that and check/grease the steering head bearings. :woohoo:
    Its all coming together :P

Cant wait, how many more sleeps to go. :P
