It was good to hear you girls made it to the end – I would have liked to have been around to give you some moral support but alas I was on my own adventure to Cape York in 4wd’s with some friends from work.

Looking forward to the rest of your RR. Caught a few snippets of your adventure when I had internet access – great stuff.

Congratulations Girls, glad to help in the small way I did and bravo to all your other supporters

    Go the Old Bulls

    Jeffro,
    hope the carby works OK
The DR650’s have a small filter attached to a short length hose to the diaphragm breather to help keep a bit of dust out. It sits under the seat at the back of the tank.
    Might be worth doing

With the Cape York trip only 11 days away I have been looking at some different trail meals for an evening in the bush. Owl02 (Gaz) had some lamb shanks once and although I didn’t want lamb shanks I went looking for where he got them to see what else they had and found these

    Meatballs with tomoto and basil

    9e00b932.jpg

    And Cattlemans beef stew

    f32e1722.jpg

These arent a dry meal and seem as they maybe ok. The only little problems I can foresee is they are a little heavier to carry (although you actually need to carry less drinking quality water) they have to be boiled in water so they will take a little more time and gas to
cook maybe won’t know until we try them

Where did you get the happy camper meals from TB? Aldi?
It will be interesting to see what you thought of them as Gaz thought the lamb shanks were pretty good

Lotsa, Tryhard and myself have used the Sunrice meals from the supermarket and have found them to be quite tasty and are only $4 a meal with a few different flavours – Chicken in green curry, chicken in red curry, Beef korma and more. If youre hungry you might want 2 meals.

They come in a box with a chinese type food container inside with a sealed rice satchel and a sealed chicken & what ever satchel which is meant to be reheated in a microwave at home. We ditch all the packaging and tape the 2 satchels together to reduce the volume. Just remeber to write with texta on the satchel what flavour it is as the name disappears with the packaging.

You can heat the contents of the satchels together with a little water in your saucepan or as Tryhard did across the Simpson just have them cold – now thats hardcore

I’ve just finished a long chat with Boulder and him and Fish are happy ( to say the least !!) with their 2 brand new KTM 990s . Set up by Craig Hartley ‘Dalby Moto’ who has just lead them on an 800+ km ride in the last day and a half through some very demanding trails with snotty uphills and nasty downhills and some great dirt twistys in between!! :woohoo:

The bikes sound the business and Boulder only took an hour to get to grips with the big girl and show her who’s boss ;)

They spent last night at Phil ‘ Motorbikin’ Hodgens place having BBQ and beers ( 2 cases :D ) and tonight made it to ‘BumF#%k’ ( Boulders words !)

Pictures are on their way and I’ll post them up as they arrive.

They have still got 2 1/2 weeks to go and will put 10 000 km on the new bikes in that time. Lucky buggers !!!!

    Nick

    Ditto

Boulder & Fish were extremely happy with the new bikes when he rang – reckons its easier to ride than the old DR’s and just goes where ever you point it. :woohoo:

Power is very smooth, Craig said dont go over 6000rpm while running them in. Boulder said he didn’t get past 5000rpm and that was enough.

It will be interesting to see what they think of them when they get to Birdsville after crossing the Simpson

Looking forward to seeing the photos he’s sending you Nick

A group from Toowoomba are heading out on 01 July to cross East – West and back down to Lake Eyre returning to Birdsville then Innamincka back along the border to Dirran. Unsupported, carrying everything, riding roughly 5000km returning 11 Jun.

I am very interested in fuel consumption and any other info I can get.

    Mick

I spoke to Lotsa when they arrived at Alice Springs last week.
Fuel consumption from Birdsville to Mt. Dare (I think he said it was about 520km on the GPS)
    Waynes DR650 38 litres
    Joes KTM 690 36 litres

He also said they were travelling as light as they could and and got the fuel off the back of the bikes and into the tank as soon as they could to help with steering.

    Hope that helps

The boys arrived back into Birdsville this arvo and headed straight to the bakery for lunch after spending 2 1/2 days doing Alice Springs to Birdsville via the Hay River track.

Well done :woohoo: Not bad travelling some 2000km’s in five days in that country

They are both Knackered and are having beers and fried chicken at the bakery tonight, then a well earned rest.

A few more days travelling back in the car and we should have a report as long as they keep away from the roos. They hit one dead centre on the bonnet on the way up there and luckily no major damage to the car.

    Looking at Waynes spot tracker

Wayne and Joe left Birdsville this arvo at 2.00pm and arrived at Poeppels Corner in the Simpson Desert about 7pm this evening. :woohoo:
So they are ahead of schedule as they weren’t supposed to be leaving Birdsville till Monday morning.

They left the Central Coast early Sat. morning so the car trip to Birdsville has been a quick one and not without some problems – 2 broken bike tie down straps and a flat tyre after running over a skippy carcass :S
