lotsa wrote:Nick, in what way would you like confirmation the work has been carried out.
Just a yep or photos?
I think Mickp has got more to worry about me than me worrying about him. Every time I walk into his garage the bike is apart.
Yeh, my wife ventured into the garage the other day (she must have been bored) and said didn’t you do all that work on yer bike last year??? yep I said , but we are a long way from home on the trip and far from help a lot of the time and I wanna try and make sure everything is OK since the bike has done 10,000k’s since last years ride. She turned around and went back in the house
Problems I have found:
rusty water in double sealed front wheel bearings that I packed with grease
crack in pannier frame – repaired and rack strengthened (jumping windrows fully loaded probably didn’t help)
rear shock bottom heim joint (bearing) stuffed – waiting on new one (last one KTM had in stock)She should be back together in a few days and ready to go

or have you already got them Mick ?Yeh the Q2’s are about that but we got the G4’s @ $200 to see how they go. They are physically larger than the Q2 and have a flip up aerial for better range in the open stuff – we’ll see

Its a top unit, There is a guy on ADV rider that makes a really nice mounting bracket for these Uniden radios. Around $100 from memory and its a top bit of gear.I run mine through an Autocom system, I run Ipod, UHF and phone all through the system. With a push to talk button mounted on the handlebars. The Ipod turns itself down the minute the phone rings or silence is broken on the UHF.
Lotsa has been playing around with a sytem using PTT on the bars but you have to have an umbilical cord to your helmet.
I looked at it, but if you want to go wireless you need the autocom system with bluetooth etc, etc, etc and the cost ends up about $1000 with the good UHF radio, rugged mounting system etc, then to get better range they fit a separate larger aerial to the bike. So it can work out to be fairly expensive.
You can get a VOX operated mike in your helmet and have a cable to the radio say in your back pack, but you still have a cable to your helmet.
We decided to do as TB has done and use Scala bluetooth units – they say the new G4 has a range of up to 1.6km  (would be line of sight when alls good) Anyway we will see how good they are on the trip.Mickp
Gaza was riding slower so the satelite could keep up

Did you happen to notice if it was re opened Krusty ???Yeah Martindale gate was closed and assuming locked, but I didn’t stop to look just noticed it closed…
The commission should go all the way up though… I don’t think Micks route planned using the Martindale track…
CORRECT Krusty
Intended to head up the commission rd as I thought Martindale could be difficult with fully loaded bikes on the greasy hills. :silly:
Mick
Looks like you had a good day out.
Krusty,
we are going out to Lightning Ridge via Finchley, Yengo, Commission track, Denman in a few weeks so you will get to ride the erosion humps all over again :cheer: :cheer: Gaz will love it  :laugh:Mickp
Cars and bikes have been running fuel injection for years and I personally dont know of anyone that has had that sort of problem.
My KTM 690 has done about 23k and no problems. TB and Nickj’s Tens have fuel injection and to my knowledge no problems – even after TB gave his swimming lessons :whistle:Just bad luck, but it would tend to piss you off

Just calling upon the mass of wisdom that this community holds.
As I posted last week my beloved TTR got pinched, so, here is the dilemma
do I get myself another TTR as I have spare rims etc for the TTR
or do I take the opportunity to change my ride?
I like the DRZ400’s but am concerned about the liquid cooled radiator setup, having read about bikes over heating, sticks getting caught in them or hoses blowing etc…. are these real concerns or am i being silly?
I was also offered a GS650 but am unsure if such a bike will suit me yet as i do like my mud and state forest trails.
:S
over to you guysSean
I assume you are talking BMW 650GS – I think the DRZ400 would be better for the mud and forest trails. I have owned both and found the tank of the 650GS between your legs when standing tended to push your feet off the pegs (unless your really bow legged) when riding in the bush.
Also the 400 is lighter and has longer travel suspension which can be well set up for trail riding. My thoughts
MickHi Gaz
I put my tent, ground sheet, chair and other gear in my bag
The length of the opening of the roll top is about 600mm and you can fit items of about 700 long in the bottom of the bag. My chair is 700mm long when folded up and fits OK.We used Lotsa’s bag as an esky on the Nabiac Museum ride – a carton of bear and a bag of ice
The bag holds quite a lot if you want or just roll it down smaller and strap it on
I had a problem with the outside pocket dry zip not working properly when I got mine and I contacted Torpedo 7 and they could not replace it at the time as they had run out of stock. But they would refund my money if I wanted or give me a partial refund to compensate for the faulty zipper. I kept the bag and I dont use the outer pocket anyway. So their customer service seems pretty good.

It gave me arm pump getting it off TB’s ute. IT was the first thing that I lubed up! It was as dry as a Magpies Foot! Hopefully after a few days it will free up.
Probably worth fitting a new one – You would not want it to fail on the ride as there’s not many bike shops out that way :S
Mick
I bought a Project Air stapler from Bunnings for about $57 (as I had a few other jobs that were hard work with the hand stapler) and it worked great when I replaced the foam and cover on my 690.
Was going to get a local upholsterer to do it but they were too busy, wanted to charge a ridiculous price or weren’t there when arranged to get it done.
I got a few rows of stainless staples, Bunnings stapler and all is good.

Spoke to Bollocks yesterday and he said Hiedi is still crying she cant go
We will now be taking a different route to lightning Ridge from the coast seeing we do not have to meet up with riders in Tamvegas. Leaving the Central Coast friday morning.
Bollocks will be assisting with a route thru Pilliga :unsure:Mickp
