Sorry to say after another XRAY today the doctor has forbidden me to ride for a while yet.
Too keen it seems. There is some nice riding up there, have a ball.

I am looking for a gentle ride after recovery from injury.
Could be a goer for this.

The best damper is one you don’t even realise is there, until you jump on someone elses bike without one.

I have had half a dozen dampers of all the types mentioned here.
Only the Scotts have never leaked and are the only ones I buy now.
That’s not say the newer models haven’t cleaned up their act, but when I’m on a good thing …

that’s sort of where I was going – I have the Ducati Multistrada (and have just found that Conti are making TKC 80’s for it which will improve it capability) for road and a bit of dirt and now looking for something to do everything else but as has been suggested by several people thats still not so easy – a good adventure bike can’t be a good tight single track bike and vica versa. I would love 3 but thats not gonna happen so have to decide where to compromise and that the problem – I want it all !!!

I too considered a different tyre to standard on the multistrada, especially since I have had flats on the dirt. However I decided not to predjudice such a finely balanced roadbike (with traction control and ABS) and stayed with the standard tyres.

Did you know you can ride an MTS at speed with a flat rear tyre? It is so wide it doesnt damage the rim and it warms up so much the air inside expands and seems to keep it partially inflated.

After a couple of flats I realised, you must reduce tyre pressure on the dirt so it can deform over sharp gravel. Even with standard road tyres it can stll leave many bikes for dead on the fire trails. I realised that with the big bikes you rely less on the front to steer and more on the power of the rear to lighten the front smaller wheel. (probably why I get so many flats)

It would however be a handful on a stalled steep hillclimb… but thats what a KTM is for.

Being a KTM guy – what do you think about the 300 2 stroke ??

    Great trail bike.
A bike where service intervals are measured in hours. Not a good option for long distance adventure riding.

I recently sold an ADV 990 which I enjoyed thoroughly for 5 years. To be honest the weight did not worry me that much and that had been thrown up and down rock steps etc. Its a great bike to tour on and lots and lots of fun.

    The following reservations apply.
    Fuel range.
With the air intake just behind the headlight it is on of the best bikes to tackle deep water, however if exceeded it becomes one of the worst possible to dewater.
    Ground clearance.

Many efi bikes seem to have that fluffy bottom end, usually to satisfy environmental regs, but there are many 3rd party options to alleviate that.

If you were not happy with a KTM 690 then I don’t think much is going to suit you.
Fuelling can be sorted using a PC and Tune ECU and gearing is not hard to change.
When looking for an all round bike, I reckon you will be disappointed as compromises must be made.
My preference is to have a specialist bike for the type of ride being planned. My indulgence is limited only by garage size and bank balance.

I sold it for $1500 but offered it on this forum exclusively for $1000.
It is interesting which forums work when selling stuff.

This new Husky has more in common with the BMW G450X (engine countershaft etc) and you should look there for history of user reports.
Mine is the old true full Husky model which is completely different.

I have an 08 model TE450 and have been very happy with it.
Fuel injection gives no bog off the bottom and motor revs happily.
Spares are always in stock and delivered next day by R&D Husqvarna.
Is a very tall bike and initially I thought the suspension was too hard.
The solution? Just ride faster, and the bike begins to shine.
A mate just bought a superseded model and so far, is equally happy with the purchase.

    Best value around at present.

    Hey Kat

I am still in the Uk at present, but had a ball riding round Transylvania.
We have organised an overnighter on that weekend to Bendethra on the merricumbene trail, which is an excellent practice for the type of terrain encountered on our End of year Vic high country rides. there are afew newbies coming down and I will trailer my bike down and leave it (the truck) at araluen as rescue backup.

You and any others are most welcome to come and try your hand at a fully laden overnighter with all the help available. It should be interesting as it can be challenging, but one bloke is bringing his Gs.

let us know if you and any others are interested.

I am glad we met at the servo as you had a much better route than I had planned. Under your recommendation I have found and joined this forum. It seems everyone enjoyed the day, even our German visitor Chris, who had his baptism of dirt. He says he is now addicted and wants to do more, which is always good to hear.
    Just some photos I took
