I own the 2011 450, and just spoke to the importer about a week or two ago.

He said he didn’t have any four strokes at all in stock.

These bikes are understated in this country, mine is just so good to ride.

Assembly quality assurance is dodgy as fk though. The things I have found have been amazing (in a bad way).

Old Pablo the bull fighter on a Friday arve did mine, that’s for sure.

    G’day Mick,

    Good shop there that one.

Rod’s a top bloke and I appreciated the help with my new GasGas recently, despite the fact that I didn’t buy it there.

You’ll be happy to know that nothings gone wrong for 4 or 5 rides now, so it looks like we’re back to routine servicing.

    Cheers,

    Neil.

Next time you take it out, put the old cap back on and put the new one in your back pack. If it boils put the new one back on. This will let you know weather the cap is faulty Glad to hear it’s sorted.

    YES!

Solid point that seems even more exiting as I’ve been drinking heavily.

I will put the old cap in (but carry the new cap with me) so as to determine the exact cure.

I really reckon that there was nothing wrong with the old cap, but I will do this and report back.

The one thing I noticed was that while a few people on various forums said that engine ice was bullshit, the people that swore by it were actually using it, which I take as a good sign.

    OK,

So I went down to mud n tar today to pick up a new radiator cap, and by chance he had “engine ice” on the shelf.

He told me my cap looked fine but I bought a new one any way just to be sure.

Rod also recommended Liquid Intelligence but didn’t have it in stock.

My problem with that one is that I’m trail riding not racing, and I might need to use a bit of water from my camelbak or a creek to get me home, so I need a coolant that can mix with water.

Long story short, hard hilly, luggy tight and twisty single this arve and it was hot as fk.

Absolutely no dramas, not a single bubble at all. The fan started less than it usually does as well.

So whether it’s the cap or the engine ice (I’m tipping it’s the engine ice) it seems to be sorted.

Hope this helps someone with similar dramas.

    Cheers Storky,

Yeah the dealers got an OEM one in the shop, so I’ll try that first.

The one that’s in it looks fine, but how can you tell? Apparently they have been known to fail.

I think you’re right, the real reason for over heating is the issue. After all it’s a brand new unmodified bike.

How’d the ride go on the long weekend?

I was (and am still) keen to come down there and check out strike a light, but just got back from hols in Sydney so went for a local ride which was excellent.

    Cheers all,

I bloke on the Gasser forum said he had the same thing on his 450 due to a dodgy radiator cap.

I might just try a new one first as part of the process of elimination.

Any recommendations on which one to get?

    Mine is a 1.8 bar.

I’ll try that first before I get into different coolants I think

Just thought I might add for consideration is that the bike was making espresso machine noises at the top of the run to Comboyne Rock. Although no coolant was going into the catch tanks, however it was bubbling. There by rights should have been ample air flow to keep it cool on that run as the average speed would have been at least 40-50kms.

might pay to check the water pump impeller as well as the tune ;)

    Ollie

another thought : does the 450 have a thermostat ?

If there was pressure releasing (the espresso noise  ) the cap would be the first thing to TEST. And if its a new bike and is injected Storky’s point is very valid and shouldnt be over looked as the requirement for ADR may just have it very lean ;)

Just reread the whole thing, get the cap tested for sure sounds like it isnt holding pressure. Check under the rubber or on the seat for some grud not letting it seat/seal

    TB

    Cheers for that.

It’s definitely not loosing any coolant, but yes it does have some dried coolant crap around the cap.

Might give that Liquid Intelligence stuff a go…the web page looks a bit trixie though.

Many people having much luck with that one?

    Gaerne SG10’s are excellent!

Thoroughly recommend them for comfort and useability.

Ended up going with Gaerne SG10’s.

    Pretty comfortable.

Checked out the SG 12 as well which had more ankle support, but seemed to have a higher heel position that I wasn’t comfortable with.

Taking them for a spin in the morning to see how they go.

    Hi All,

Just chasing suggestions for boots, as the ones I’ve got aren’t working out.

I’ve got those ONeal $180 buck boots in a US size 11 (I’m Oz 10) which fit fine other than being way too small around the calves.

I’ve got the top strap extended fully and can still only barely push the clip over.

Luckily I’ve got a skinny legged size 10 kid who can wear them, so I’m up for a replacement.

    Any suggestions?

I’m only trail riding, not racing.

Something with tread would be good as I come off often, and need to pick up the bike etc halfway up hills and wotnot.

    Cheers,

    Cheers mate,

Yep, I could’ve searched a bit better first and noticed that one soon after (I’d had a few beers).

    Seriously considering the “gay’uns”

    Timeless model, the old IT.

I had a 175J when I was a kid in Bellingen and it was awesome.

One of the things I HATE about living in suburbia is no big shed to spread out all my half arsed projects.

Otherwise I’m sure I’d have a couple of IT’s on the go.

    OK…

I screwed that up fully and put it in the wrong place.

Can this post me moved (please)?
