Not to mention the weight (extra 28lbs), danger from exposed chains and a stupidly long wheelbase hampering handling.

    Day Three Video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1TwIGrJhLck

The Australian Trophy team of Glenn Kearney, Daniel Milner, Christopher Hollis, Matthew Phillips, Josh Strang and Toby Price dropped a little time to the very strong French team, but were able to maintain their eight minute advantage over third place Italy as the race entered the half way mark.

At least three riders in the Australian team have reported injuries on day three, however all will be continuing to push through as day four gets underway.

Toby Price has done some damage to his Ribs after a fall, While Glenn Kearney put a hole in his knee and Matthew Phillips is nursing a sore Wrist.

“Another tough day, wrists killing but okay, bikes holding together well so far. 3 of 6 days done and sitting 8th outright.” Phillips posted via Facebook this morning

Phillips also sent us a message this morning letting us know

“The team is pretty beaten up at the moment, Toby is sore and GK (Glenn Kearney put a 10×4 hole where his knee is supposed to be but got sewn up ready for tomorrow’s action”

As TB pointed out though they are getting a bit of help from their countrymen. I doubt there are many Aussies there spectating indicating to our riders which lines to avoid.

Just checked and Toby is only around 48 seconds behind Namotin in E3. Strang and Millner are doing pretty good too in their classes.

It’s great to see Pontus Hogberg doing so well in E3 as well :D

Toby said he was struggling with a special test but is going okay on the rest despite it being hard on the body. It certainly looks rough when riding at the speeds they’re going.

    Go the Aussies!!!

I’ve been exploring alot of tracks recently too and it takes it’s toll as they are really overgrown. The sticks, twigs, nines and spiders are wasit height, not head height and I try to ride as far in as I can.

I could look after the lenses better but it never seems like top of the list when I’m riding. It seems top of the list when I go to put them on the next ride though and they’re so scratched I go and sit on the IT instead of the Berg :D

I remember that one Scotty, nasty, the Lanatan was out to kill us all that day!

Yeah it’s much less of a problem on ADV rides ;) I duck too, but sometimes that isn’t enough, and if you haven’t slowed down much then they will get damaged. It’s why I don’t expect to have the Liquid Image camera for too long :D

It’s a cost of the sport, just like breaking your bike.

How hard is it to squirt some camelback water onto the lens before you scratch/wipe the mud off?

Not very. Since I run Staminade in mine to keep my fat arse alive during a ride it wouldn’t be much good would it.

Also, most of the scratches I get are caused by vines, lantana, sticks, branches etc scraping across my goggles at speed because I don’t slow down for them.

Don’t forget Alex we ride in the bush, with trees, not that rocky shit up your way

I have a few pairs of Goggles and the ones I use now are the ProGrip ones with light sensitive lens. The lens itself is really good and transitions quickly when going from bright to shaded areas.

They are expensive though, replacement lenses are around $20 (from memory) and they aren’t sold everywhere so if your dealer doesn’t sell them I wouldn’t bother.

Mine are scratched to buggery and they get that way quite quickly, then again so do the Oakley, Thor and Scott goggles I have.

I’m a ‘wipe the mud off sort of guy’ and consider goggle lenses a consumable item, much like tyres.

It’s one of reasons the contour and it’s sleek side mount would be good. I said to my mate the other day after riding down a trail how shit it would have been with a camera stuck to my head.

Good work on the extensive product testing Scotty. I didn’t ride last weekend and wont be for next couple either so haven’t had the chance to test mine our yet.
