Yep, my UHD tubes I took out when fitting my mousses both had loose bits inside…….

It’s way too heavy to do any real trials stuff with, having had direct experience with both forms of the sport I know this. It wouldn’t handle any decent trail use as the fork is too small and it doesn’t have the power to sensibly get about to explore without it being laboursome because they unecessarily de-tuned it. It does nothing well, maybe that’s the point.

But at $10K I struggle to see it’s value for a single bike (other than a learner/novice), and if you’re going to own more than 1 bike you might as well have a trials bike and an enduro bike and do it properly, not to mention a trials bike is cheaper.

A KTM 250 weighs 104Kg and and a KTM 200 weighs 97Kg, both have considerably more power. 99Kg is not light when you account for the fact the bike makes half the power of a normal 350.

If you read my post, you’ll see the only area it was compared to my bike is fuel economy. When taking into account my heavy 4t and it’s 60hp it makes the Freeride’s fuel economy not look impressive either.

This bike should weigh about 80Kg, then the economy, handling and performance *might* warrant paying $10K for it.

According to the KTM website it weighs 99.5Kg, hardly a mountain bike. That’s 30Kg more than a trials bike and only 2-3Kg lighter than a 2 stroke KTM with twice the power and can tell you from plenty of experience, picking the 300 up on a gnarly hill is anything but easy. It’s also only 14Kg’s less than my 570.

It might be easy to ride and touch the ground but so is a CRF150 or a yamaha TTR250, both of which are significantly cheaper than the Freeride.

My 570 Berg with an FMF pipe and EFI fuel tuner will do over 100Km to the fuel light, god knows how much after that and that’s from a 8.5L tank, so I think the fuel consumption could be a lot better than it is too.

It’s an old 2 stroke. There was one for sale in Newcastle a few weeks back. Early 80’s.

    EDIT: Here’s a 1994 one in Richmond-Tweed. A claimed 70+hp

Is the EGO capable of 1080? If so both at their best in 1080 would be the test wouldn’t it? Shouldn’t the test be both out of their covers, then both in? I only ask because this morning someone quoted dust standard numbers to me saying the EGO is the same as the gopro out of its cover.

Yes, the EGO does 1080 at 30fps, same as the GoPro. A test at 1080 would have been better as it’s probably the rate most will record in?

The cover question is subjective. The GoPro needs the cover, the EGO doesn’t. For dirtbiking, I don’t plan on using the cover for the EGO. It would still be nice to see a comparo.

Though, in fairness, they both are pretty good quality regardless so it’s only really splitting airs either way. At the price you can pick an EGO for it is hard to look past…….until the HeroHD3 is released

Interesting, the EGO looks noticably brighter and represents colours better. As you say it will be interesting to see how it goes with the waterproof casing fitted.

I don’t plan on using the waterproof casing anyway so it seems like it was money well spend for me…..happy days!

It’s kind of interesting but I don’t know why they limited the power, it would be of much more interest to me if they hadn’t handicapped it.

Sure, the best bike for me to ride through the bush the fastest is a 150cc four banger because I can’t ride anything bigger to it’s potential. However, things to consider regarding this are:

I don’t see pro’s riding their 450’s through the single track tapped out, does that mean they should downsize?

The ‘riding a bike to it’s potential’ line always makes me laugh. It’s suited to about 2% of riders who attend all the race meets and actually give a damn about consistently riding fast. How many of us here care about riding a bike to it’s potential? I sure as hell don’t.

Did I buy an exhaust for my 570, yes. Did it make snappier, yes. Can I ride it flat out, no. I do love riding it though and the power it has. Riding in the bush on the weekend is about fun, getting the back out and having a ball, not riding it pinned and cutting quick laps.

Aus dirtbike sales show the Aussie trend to buy big bikes, that’s why I think the Freeride won’t do too well in terms of sales. Good for a beginner or learner rider though. Too expensive and too little bang for buck for others is what I’m tipping.

I used the Michy UHD tubes and have never had a flat. I even hit a rock at speed (TB saw it) which kartwheeled me off the bike and it still held up despite my rim being dented!

I have run the Michy mousses and am a mousse convert. They offer unrivalled rim protection and peace of mind. I find the fitting hit and miss though. Fitting the Kenda Washougal rear Sat was tougher than I would have liked but it went on, this is more than I can say for the Dunlop MX51 front which I was expecting to be easy. It’s sat in the garage as I couldn’t fit it with the new Techno mousse!

I ran a 80/100 mousse in a 90/100 tyre for 1100Km’s and the mousse is now too soft to use whole and will need packing. It has been replaced with a new mousse now though.

The rear Michy looked fine and appears to be up for many more miles service. I use Michy mousse lube, I buy it when placing an RMATV order, it’s only $2.50 per tube so I just buy 10 tubes at a time.

I also add a bit of cooking oil into the tyre to get it all properly slimey. I have tried the Castrol rubber grease but it’s thick, very messy and hard to apply so I will stick with the Michy lube.

    3) float level set too high allowing the fuel to keep running into the float bowl. (me thinks this will be the problem) You will need to get the correct measurement and adjust the tab that operates the needle.

This is most likely the cause, the KTM/Bergs have been known to have the floats adjusted too high from the factory. It’s easy to adjust.
