I’m trying to mate but may have to resort to driving out on SAt morn and back on Sun arvo, which, given the distance, isn’t all that appealing. I don’t want to see you drop that shiny bike in a Neville bog hole though
I didn’t see any patrollers but did see some gates in the Wato’s and through Ourimbah too. Most were open, one was ripped out of the ground. Despicable behavoir
I like a challenge mate and don’t want to cruise up and down single trails all day. I was highly impressed that I got up all 4 sections of Whitemans Lane 1st and time without help though.
Is Duffy’s that loop we did when you almost fell into the creek and I helped you up? I know how to get there and have been meaning to go do it again. I might add it in depending on how long/hard the rest of the loop is.
There certainly are some tricky hills in there, prick hill is harder now due to most of ruts on the ‘a’ or ‘b’ lines being deeper than peg height.
Also, is the Lantana trail the one you flipped your bike on that time (off Boyds or something?). If so I rode that the other day, I was the only one who made it up unassisted, more through brute force and ignorance than good judgement
I ride alot slower on the road these days as a result of my A4DE Supermotard accident!
Lucky I didn’t get hurt. Still have the A4DE log breaking video I did for CHriss Hollis?
That way I could do a loop like:
Start at Maculata, Daniels Point Rd to Watagan Forest Road. Drop of West side into singles, prick hill etc all the way to Phil Tunks. Down Tunks, up the road to Dooralong, singles in there, back up Tunks then head South on the singles, drop down Hitchcoks, up Whitemans, left on the Ridge Road back to Daniels Point and back to cars.
Or even start at Dunks, singles all the way to Maculata, then up the ridge road, down Hitchcocks, up whitmans, then singles to Tunks and Dooralong etc.
Hey Adam, that’s interesting to know. I call Daniels Point Rd ‘Maculata’ as it’s part of the Maculata loop I do. It drops down the hill, down that little rock ledge section to the bog hole at the bottom, I rode up it (the rock ledge section) the other week too so it’s fresh in my memory.
I’m not sure where the Ridge Road joins Daniels Point Road but if I get back onto the Ridge Road from the top of Whitemans Lane and follow it down I guess I’ll find out. If that’s where it comes out that will be perfect!
I’ll investigate with a mate tomorrow and see how I go. I probably rode the singles you’re talking about last week too. There were also singles jumping on and off Whitemans Ridge Road

I carry that tool pack, a small 6 inch shifter, tyre levers (not now I’m on mousses), and 4 small spanners 8mm, 10mm, 12mm & a 13mm for adjusting the rear axle blocks, used to have a digital tyre pressure guage, some zip ties, a foldable knife and one of those foldable plier/knife/mini saw things.
The bum bag is a good idea but I fin it adds alot of bulk and weight to items that can be carried in your camelback that you need to carry anyway.
The good thing with bumbag is that if you’re a toolaholic you can carry more stuff and the weight isn’t all on your shoulders. It’s very much an each to their own thing I suppose and as you say, it takes time to find out what you need and want to carry.
Another handy tip for the coming summer months is to 1/3 fill your camel back the night before th ride and put in the freezer, then fill the rest on the morning of the ride. Icy cool drink all day long. Put too much drink in before freezing though and you’ll be thirsty as all day long with a block of ice strapped to your back!
Sweet, I may head that way tomorrow and check it out again, see if we can find a way through.
I’ll have to find out distances for the ride, I doubt we will be able to start at the South end and still get over Morriset way due to fuel (don’t really want to ride the tar to Morrisset for fuel either). An option would be to do a fuel drop I suppose.
I can either trim the loop at the Doorlalong end starting at Dunks or trim it at the SOuth end by starting at the tennis courts or Maculata.
Ride will also have a lowish cap to ensure we keep the flow
I’ll plan something over the next weeks and post it up
Up a few cliffs
I’ll post the ride when I’ve got it sorted. It will have to be done in the dry or we will have to skip going up Whitemans.
I might do a ride starting from the South end (Dunks Lane) or maybe even from the Tennis Courts a bit father up so we can the stuff behind Dooralong Lodge over towards Morrisset
Get yourself one of these:
The picture isn’t far off the actual size of the tool set!
With a few sockets added and a small terminal screwdriver for your air screw there is nothing you can’t do on the bike. I’ve had mine for 3 years and have used it so many times I can’t remember for my bike and to help others.
It’s also light, stupidly compact and when packed with a small shifter and 2 tyre levers it’s all you’ll ever need on the trail.
Another thing to get is a oil bottle with graduations on the side, I just gave mine away but it’s very helpful when adding and carrying oil to some back country servo.
Ultra Heavy Duty Tubes – the stock ones are thin and will puncture easily. UHD’s are heavier but are much more puncture resistant and allow you to run lower tyre pressure without drama’s.
Knee Guards – Even the basic $60 dollar ones covering your knee caps will save you in a fall.
A decent set of safety glasses for when it’s raining and your goggles become useless.
When I find out how to get from Whitemans back to Watagan Forest Rd without riding down the firetrail
It’s a good loop but the section isn’t for the faint hearted
I think there might be a ‘B’ way around where we can meet at the top, I need to explore more. I know there is another way but I think that has a pretty hard section going up too.
Think large, continuous rock ledges like that go for 20-30 meteres a pop and there are 4 of them.
This is like deja-vu, we’ve had this conversation before haven’t we?
Chris, I would to like to re-enter my posts one at a time please
Good work fella, I know it’s not easy
Hahaha, love the Elephant mask, must have missed that one before! Who is it?
