Nice report and vid Adam, the hills never look as steep on a camera do they? That first hill is a slippery sucker these days with all the dust and loose soil.

Looks like you all had fun though and that’s what it’s all about :-)

No plans to change exhaust, i just thought it might be nice to be able to turn it down a wick when you get on a slippery section on a wet day? but your right, i’ll try it standard first and see how we go.

Typically the map switches are more noticeable from the middle of the RPM range and up and even then it’s not a massive difference, just with the edge taken off a little.

If it’s slippery going to the point where you are struggling you shouldn’t be up in the revs anyway and therefore the map switch in that scenario will do practically nothing.

I use it to add extra snap when riding the faster stuff. In conjunction with the fuel EFI tuner I have ‘angried’ my bike up, I use the map switch switch to tame it down or when I’m tired. Mostly it’s left in aggressive though.

You’d be better off putting the money towards a new tyre if running a totally stock bike B)

Is the silver one a TT500? If so I’d be keen for it it Boulder doesn’t take all three.

Use DOT5.1 not DOT4 for better boiling temp. resistance. Motul 660 may well be 5.1 for all I know just saying to use 5.1 if you haven’t already.

I hardly ever bleed my brakes, if they start to feel spongy then I’ll do it otherwise they seem to be fine. To do it properly though you really need to take the brake off completely as the banjo fitting at the master cylinder on the bars has a high point (it does on KTM/Bergs anyway) and can leave a bit of air in causing spongyness. Not forgetting the il is hydroscopic and will build up water over a period of time.

There was a good thread on here about brake bleeding, the serach function is rubbish though so I couldn;t be bothered to look through a million posts for you. Maybe you can ask a moderator to help you out or fix it? :D :D :D

Shock sag is much mpre critical on a KTM than other bikes as it doesn’t use a rising rate linkage, it has PDS.

You won’t get the right sag numbers unless you have the correct springs for your weight. Like Murph I have changed all 3 of my KTM/Berg springs as I’m heavier too. If you’re much more than 80Kg without gear you’ll likely need to this and it would be my first mod.

If you can’t afford to do springs both ends after shelling out for a new bike do the shock first and then the forks when you can.

I always set clickers to ‘comfort’ and tweak from there. This depends on your weight though, if you are too heavy for the stock springs you may need to set the clickers to ‘sport’ to compensate.

Have fun on it, I still need to hit Adam up for a go on his. I’ve only ridden one for about 2 minutes helping someone out of strife.

Razz, the bent mounts come with the new BB Ego kits. I fitted a set to my Berg last week. The wiring is only cable tied to your bars/bike in places.

Best bet is to cut the cable ties and loosen up the wiring then you can fit the bar mounts and run the mounts underneath the wiring. Once done just put a few cable ties in sensible places and that’s it. I don’t think it took me more than 15 minutes to remove the shitty Acerbis ones I had and fit the new BB’s up B)

I can take a picture of mine tonight if you still need it, you get the idea from TB’s pics though.

Its a sign of the tough economic climate and really it makes sense to make all the engine parts out of the same place to reduce overheads.

I too am a sorry to see the loss of the 70 degree motor but the new 500 motor is good and the package handles very well, not to mention it makes my 570 feel fat.

I reckon there will be a 1-2 transition period then Berg will unleash a bigger bore bike again using the KTM castings and assembly line.

At least you get more value for money with the Berg even of it a blue KTM. It’s like buying a 6 days KTM but for $1000 cheaper and without the need to have ‘Germany’ written on your bike, another big bonus :D

Nice to see you out there mate and to meet Jonathon, he seems like a nice fella. After you left me and Darran back tracked as we saw another good looking hill but it led back onto the Red Hill Rd. We rode ll the singles to quarry, looked for that track we were talking about but couldn’t find it so rode the singles back before playing around on a big log.

With my trials form honed in I tried riding up a 3ft+ vertical (and I mean vertical) rock ledge. I made it up but over mono’d and missed hitting my front wheel at the top. The result was a case out and I ripped my bashplate off.

We got home around 3:30pm hightailing it after my bashie broke. I even went over the bars on the final hill back to home (near Westfiled) when I lazily went over a decent rock drop, couldn’t stop and lost the front end…..500m from home DOH!!!

Bike was cleaned and is now sat back in the garage ready for a new bashie ad the next ride.

Looks the goods Murph, some nice rock steps and hills thrown in the mix. You seem to have had a decent turnout of people for it too!

Westy – You must be a glutton for punishment going on that ride after complaining you can’t handle the 300 on your first ride. I’m not surprised you want to sell it after that. Don’t say I didn’t warn you and just to think you could have been out on a much more cruisey ride today at Ourimbah adjusting to your new/old bike.

Tim is obviously way too fit, we need to think of a better way to handicap him some more Murph :D
